GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Computer Controlled Axial Flow Turbine, “TFAC”, developed by EDIBON, consists of a simple one stage turbine with axial flow inlet. It
has eight nozzles which work as water distributors towards the rotor. Four of those nozzles have an incidence angle of 20 degrees and the
other four ones of 30 degrees. So we can study the differences in the working conditions by varying the inlet angle of the turbine through
eight valves that allow the passage of water to the different nozzles.
In order to raise the fluid, there is a pump that allows the impelled water to cross the turbine, where it leaves part of its energy, making the
turbine rotate, overcoming the external resistance generated by a band brake.
This brake is connected to a load cell and both elements allow us to determine the load given by the turbine. The speed measurement is
obtained through a slot sensor.
In the pump outlet, there is a valve to open or close the water flow to the collectors and a flow sensor. Those collectors work with the 20
and 30 degrees nozzles respectively. Each collector has tow pressure sensors.
To calculate the hydraulic head there are four pressure sensors at the turbines’ inlet collectors; two of them for the pressure in the 20º
nozzles and the other two for the 30º nozzles.
An actuator on the pump allows to vary its rotation condition thus varying the flow entering the turbine.
The pump-turbine group includes a tank and a piping system to work with recirculated water constantly avoiding an indiscriminate use of
water.
Apart from the already mentioned characteristic, the Advanced Computer Controlled Axial Flow Turbine, “TFAC/A”, also includes a
computer controlled power generation and electronic braking system. It displays the generated electrical power and works as electronic
brake control the load torque of the turbine.
This Computer Controlled Unit is supplied with the EDIBON Computer Control System (SCADA), and includes: The unit itself + a
Control Interface Box + a Data Acquisition Board + Computer Control, Data Acquisition and Data Management Software Packages, for
controlling the process and all parameters involved in the process.
