It's old and well-known that human wants are infinite but resources are finite. Consequently, we must make choices. To choose correctly, we need information - lots and lots of information. Olodumare is in possession of universal information or Ase - the past, the present and the future. This is why we say information (Ase) is power. Olodumare gives the power of information control to Orunmila, who uses his knowledge of Ifa divination to produce information for the supplicant to make better choices. While Orunmila is endowed with the power to manipulate binary codes, in Odu Ifa, to produce information, Esu (the governor of the T-junction) is endowed with the power to control choice or decision making process. There are 256 paths to Esu, symbolizing the 256 bytes or possibilities in Odu Ifa. Consequently, it's incumbent upon a good Awo to recommend offerings to Esu in order to guide the supplicant's Ori to the right path or choice.
