Description: Patrol Vehicle Damage Entered: CREGER
INITIAL INCIDENT Reporting Officer: CREGER, PAUL 05/02/18
INFORMATION
On 5/3/18 in the afternoon, Ofc. Dover contacted my about some damage on Car 22 that he noticed when checking
into service. I observed a good-sized dent on the drivers side just forward of the drivers door. In inspecting the car,
I also noted several small dings and dents in the hood and roof as well as another two smaller dents in the roof on
the passenger side just behind the rear door.

I discovered that Ofc. Paling had sent a note to the Chief regarding the vehicle damage. I photographed the
damage for inclusion in this report.

I reviewed the in-car video and noted that Ofc. Paling had responded to the fire and explosion at Meridian
Magnesium during his shift the previous evening. His vehicle was present at the rear of the building when the
second explosion occurred. The flash of the explosion can be seen followed by numerous parts and pieces falling
around the car.

The damage to the vehicle was unpreventable.

The vehicle was taken to Candy Ford in Charlotte for repair.

DISPOSITION
Report filed. Closed.

INFORMATION:

On the above date at approximately 0200 hrs while assisting the Eaton Rapids Fire Department with a structure
fire at Meridian Magnesium there were multiple explosions. The patrol car sustained minor damage to the front
driver’s side quarter panel from a piece of flying shrapnel. After watching the in car camera I observed a piece
bounce off the hood too. There is small mark in the middle of the hood from it. A memo was left for Chief Weeks
on 05/02/18 prior to leaving shift.
