Time Motivation and Introduction:
1:30-
1. Students will begin the lesson sat facing the teacher at the

front of the room. Teacher will ask the students to recap what
they did in their previous measurement class.

2. The teacher will introduce the topic of the lesson. The


students will be asked what they might include in a map?

1:45 3. Teacher will provide examples of maps as motivation for the
task.

4. Students will then be told they will be creating a map of the


school. The teacher will ask students to consider a number of
areas that the students might use in creating their maps.

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

1. Students will then be provided with their maths books and put
into groups. The groups will then be asked to go out into the
school and record a map of the school.

1:50 2. Students will be encouraged to use two dimensional shapes to
represent the buildings and other land marks of the school.

3. In the groups the students will be released into the school, the

students will be told to stay in the groups and return to the class
1:55 after the chosen time.

4. Students will work in their groups to create their maps. The


teacher will follow and monitor the students as they move around

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

1. Once the students have completed the task of creating their

2. The teacher will have the students siting down with their maps

1. To judge the student’s ability to accurately create a map the


students work will be compared to the Google maps example.

Students will be judged on the level of detail used and their

2. Students will also be judged on the tools used in the creation


of them maps. Students will be expected to include a compass to
show the orientation of the map and include tools such legends
to identify detail in their maps.
