B. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION - ELECTRICAL

1.0 SCOPE
The scope of the work involved Supply, Erection, Electrification, & Commissioning
of Construction of Two Smart Roads at KPTCL Road and MANDOLI Road for
Belagavi Smart City Project.

a. Running of 11 KV line on 9.0 Mtr long RCC poles of 145 Kg working load
with an average span of 50 Mtr. using Rabbit ACSR conductor.
b. Erection of 11 kV/415 Volts, 25 KVA, 63 KVA, 100 KVA and 250 KVA
50 Hz Distribution Transformer Centers using 9.0 Mtr long RCC poles of 145
Kg working load.
c. Running of LT, 3 phase 4 wire power lines on 9.0 Mtr long RCC poles of 145
Kg working load with an average span of 50 Mtr using Rabbit ACSR
conductor.
d. Erection of HT Meter cubicle
e. Providing Service Main connection to the Water supply pump set installations
of the schemes.

The contractor shall execute the above works which involves the supply,
transportation to work site, erection, assembly, testing and commissioning of the lines
and equipments.

1.1 The details of equipment to be supplied, transported, erected, assembled, tested and
commissioned are indicated in Schedule of Bill of Materials

1.2 Any other items not specifically mentioned but which are essentially required for
satisfactory performance & completeness of work shall deemed to be included in the
scope of specifications and works and the same shall be executed / carried out by the
contractor at no extra cost to the owner.

1.3 Unless otherwise stated, all equipments / material to be supplied and used under this
contract shall be new.

1.4 The materials to be supplied and the erection standards shall comply with the Bureau
of Indian Standards /other International standards.

2.0 General requirements

2.1 Similar parts of any equipment supplies shall be interchangeable.

2.2 All equipment/materials shall be submitted for inspection by a duly authorized


representative of the Engineer-in-charge. Inspection may be made at any stage of
manufacture, dispatch or at site or the places at the options of the Engineer-in-charge.
The equipment to be dispatched/ about to be dispatched, if found unsatisfactory as to
workmanship or quality, the same liable to be rejected. The contractor shall grant free
access to the places of manufacture to the authorized representative of the Engineer-
in-charge at all times when these works related to the manufacture are in progress.

2.3 Inspection and acceptance of any equipment / materials under specifications by the
Engineer-in-charge or his authorized representative shall not relieve the Contractor of
his obligations of furnishing / supplying equipment in accordance with the
specifications.

2.4 All equipments / materials being supplied by the contractor shall confirm to the Type
tests and shall be subject to Routine tests in accordance with relevant standards.

2.5 Type tests and Routine tests on the equipment being supplied, whenever specified
shall be carried out in accordance with relevant standards, at the contractors cost.

2.6 Copies of all Routine test certificates of the following equipments shall be furnished
to the Engineer.
1) RCC Poles
2) Insulators
3) Spiral Earth Electrode
4) Guy Set
5) 11 KV GOS
6) Rabbit ACSR conductor
7) 3Cx400 Sq.mm XLPE Cable
8) 3Cx95 Sq.mm XLPE Cable
9) Straight through jointing kits
10) LT Feeder pillar box
11) Lightning Arrester
12) ETV Meter
13) HG Fuse Units
14) GI and PVC Pipes.
Routine tests shall be witnessed at the manufacturer’s premises in respect of above
materials by the representative of the Engineer.
The contractor shall issue at least 15 days clear notice of routine tests to be conducted
with details of time, place and venue to facilitate the representative of the Engineer to
witness and certify such tests. In case any of the material is rejected during such test,
the contractor shall pay a penalty of Rs.20, 000/- (Rupees Twenty Thousand Only) for
each such failure when attended by the Engineer-in-charge’s representative.

For the following items, the sample shall be submitted to the Engineer-in-charge and
got approved before the material is used for the works.

For all other materials, not specifically mentioned above, the test certificate with
regard to Type test and Routine tests shall be furnished before the same are used to the
works.

2.7 The owner reserves the right of getting any field test conducted on completely
assembled equipment at site.

2.8 The contractor is fully responsible for the Equipment / material until the same is
handed over to the owner in an operating condition after commissioning. The
contractor is fully responsible for the proper maintenance of Equipment / material as
well as protection against theft, elements of nature, damages etc., while in his custody
as well as after erection until the same is taken over by the owner under due
acknowledgement in writing.

2.9 The entire works to be executed under this contract will be in stages & requires
obtaining Line Clear Permits from the Engineer-in-charge’s representative before
taking up the works by the contractor. As such the contractor shall take all mandatory
safety precautions for executing the works.

3.0 GENERAL GUIDE LINES FOR WORKS

1) RCC Poles- 9.0 Meters long RCC Poles of 145 Kg working load shall be used
for construction of 11 kV lines and LT lines and for Distribution Transformer
Centers. RCC Poles- 8.0 Meters long RCC Poles of 115 Kg working load
shall be used for stud poles. Poles shall be manufactured as per specification
and drawing furnished.

2) Horizontal Cross Arm with HT ST Support- Two pin Horizontal Cross


Arms made out of 50 x 50 x 6 mm M.S. angle & HT ST Support made out of
50 x 8 mm MS flat as per detailed specification and drawing furnished shall
be used. For 11 kV lines

3) 4 Pin cross arm, 2 pin cross arm and LT single top support-4 Pin cross
arm, 2 pin cross arm and LTST support made out of 45 x 45 x 5 mm, 45 x 45
x 5 mm and 50 x 6 mm MS angle respectively, as per detailed specification
and drawing furnished shall be used for LT lines.

4) 45 KN disc insulators- For termination of 11 kV lines, only 45 kN dead end


Disc insulators as per detailed specification and drawing furnished shall be
used

5) DP and TP Structure- For 11 KV lines one Double Pole structure per Km as


per detailed specification and drawing furnished shall be used. The Existing
11 kV lines shall have to be tapped off using DP structure. Wherever
necessary TP structure may be used where the line crossing is 90º
6) Spiral earth electrode- Metallic fixture on every pole used in 11 kV lines
shall be earthed using spiral earth electrode system as per drawing furnished.

7) Guy Wire- The GI stay wire used for guy set shall confirm to the specification
indicated and the strain insulator for LT line is No 8 and for HT line No 15 as
per detailed specification and drawing furnished shall be used.

8) Earthing- All metallic parts of DP structure, supports on either side of road


crossings shall be earthed. Three separate earth electrodes made up of 40 mm
dia GI pipe, 2.5 Mtr long shall be provided for each transformer center. One of
these electrodes shall be connected by 2 independent leads (using GI stay
wire) to the Neutral terminal of the transformer. The body of the transformer
shall be connected by an independent lead (using 8 SWG G.I wire) to the
second electrode. Also, all the metal parts of the TC structure, the operating
handle of the GOS, the metering box etc., shall be connected by means of a
second independent lead (using 8 SWG G.I wire) by proper looping to the
second earth electrode to which the body of the transformer is also connected.
The third electrode shall be connected to the potential point of all the 3
lightning arrestors. Details furnished in the drawing.

9) Mounting of Lightning Arrestors- The Lightning arrestors shall be mounted


that in the event of bursting, no live parts of the leads, HT or LT or of the
arrestor lie within the arcing distance of any conductor to ground.

10) Jumpers at tapping points- Jumpers shall be made in such a way as to give
neat appearance & required clearance to earth. The ground clearance and
horizontal clearance to the conductor shall confirm to IE rules.

11) Statutory payments: The successful bidder shall make arrangements for
inspection of the entire distribution system erected, by Electrical Inspectorate
Authority and obtain approval from them. Inspectorate fee and other statutory
payment shall borne by the contractor and can be claimed along with the bills
duly submission of the receipt by the successful bidders.

TSS-1.0 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR 9.5/9.0/8.0 M LONG RCC POLE


WORKING LOAD OF 150/145/115 KGS.

The specification covers manufacture, curing, testing and supply of 9.5, 9.0 and 8.0 mtr
long RCC poles, are generally as per drawing enclosed with the specification and are
intended to be used on 11 kV over head electric distribution lines. The materials
manufactured shall conform strictly to the requirement of relevant INDIAN
STANDARDS and latest addition of IS using the best quality of materials and
workmanship. The Cement used in the manufacture of RCC Poles shall be of good quality
and confirming to the relevant ISS either ordinary or rapid hardening Portland cement
conforming to IS: 269. Aggregate used for the manufacture of RCC Poles shall confirm to
IS: 383. Reinforcing bars and wires used in the manufacture of RCC Poles shall be as
below:-
i) Mild steel and medium tensile steel bars and hard drawn steel wire confirming to
IS-432/1960.
ii) The steel of Tor-50 grade conforming to latest edition of IS: 1786.
iii) Quality of MS Rounds used for stirrups shall comply with the requirements of
IS:226.
The reinforcing bars used shall be of required length as per drawing and no joint shall be
allowed. All joints and stirrups shall be welded properly. If no welded, the lap length shall
not be less than 40 times the diameter of the bars. The cover of concrete over the
reinforcement shall be 30mm under normal working conditions and shall not be under any
circumstances less than 20mm.

The sand shall be of the quality fit for use in RCC works i.e., river sand and sieved and
free from alkaline/acidic materials.
The ratio of cement concrete shall be 1:2:3 and shall comply with the requirements of
IS:456.
The standards adopted for various materials manufacture shall be as follows:

i) The RCC poles shall conform to the requirement of IS:785/1964.


ii) The quality of concrete shall be to the requirements of IS:456/1964.
iii) The testing of proto-type poles shall be as per requirements of IS:2905/1966.

The RCC Poles shall be manufactured as per the enclosed drawing and as noted below:
i) 9.5 M long Poles – Drawing No. KEB/CPL/RCP-2/19-9-1974.
ii) 9.0 M long Poles – Drawing No. KEB/CPL/RCP-2/19-9-1974.
iii) 8.0 M long Poles – Drawing No. KEB/CPL/RCP-2/19-9-1974.

The poles shall take working load of 150 kgs for 9.5mtr. 145 Kgs, for 9.0 mtr, and
115 Kgs for 8.0 mtr, long RCC pole acting at 0.6 M from top with factor of safety of 2.5
respectively and

The tests for transverse strength, torsion strength, measurement of cover and uprightness
shall be carried out in the presence of a representative of OWNER.

1.0% of the total number of poles ordered and selected at random shall be tested as per the
standard referred to above.
No payments will be made for the poles, which fail or tested to destruction.
Earthing shall be provided for the poles. By having a continuous separate length of SWG
GI wire embedded in concrete during manufacture and the ends of wire left projecting
from the narrower end of the poles and 150mm below the ground level. The arrangements
for termination of the earth wire to the bolt and nut shall be as indicated in the concerned
drawing. The G.I. Wire used for embedding shall comply with requirement of IS:
2141/1968.

The poles shall be clearly and indelibly marked with the following particulars, during
manufacture but before testing at a position so as to be easily seen after erection in
position.
a) Month and year of manufacture.
b) Maker’s Sl. No. and marking.
c) Purchase order No. and date.
d) A line to indicate the depth of planting.
e) KRWSSA engraved (letters – OWNER).
f) Lines to show the level of cross arms.
Provisions for holes for fixing the cross arms and other fixtures shall confirm to drawing
and/or the construction practice adopted by the KPTCL/ ESCOM. The same shall be got
confirmed by the Executive Engineer El., of the Division, before taking up the
manufacture and supplies.

TSS-2.0 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR HORIZONTAL CROSS ARMS

This Specification provides for the manufacture of Horizontal straight cross arms and
Horizontal special 3 pin cross arm for the use in 11 KV distribution lines. The structural steel
for the manufacture of cross arm shall be commercial grade angles 50 x 50 x 6 mm and
conform to IS:1977 / ST-42 /ST –32. They should take particular care to ensure the hardness
of the steel used is as per the said ISS. The material for 11 KV horizontal cross arms should

conform to Drg. No. KEB /WS/019 / dtd 03-08-1985.The cross arms should be painted with
two coats of ACB paints after red-oxide primer coat. The cross arm should have voltage grade
(11 KV) marked on it. The contractor shall submit a sample and get the approval of the
Engineer before taking up the works. The cross arms shall be securely packed to avoid
damages during transport. Each horizontal cross arm shall be 980 mm length and weight
approx 4.86 Kg / Piece, and Horizontal Special 3 pin cross arm shall be 1980 mm length and
weight approx 11.484 kg/piece as mentioned in the drawings.

TSS-3.0 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR LT & HT SINGLE TOP SUPPORTS


This specifications provides for the manufacture of single top supports for using 11 KV &
415 / 240 V lines, manufactured out of structural mild steel- flats, 50 x 8 mm and 50 X 6 mm
conform to IS: 1977 / ST-42 /ST-32 commercial quality or latest version thereof. The
hardness of the steel flat used shall be as per relevant ISS. The materials shall conform to
drawing No. KEB / SIC / WS /019 dt 03-08-1985 of H.T S.T supports and KEB / Tech / Misc
/ 241 dt 02-08-1985 for L.T S.T supports. Each member of the set should be painted with
two coats of ACB paint after primer and should have grade marked on it, as HT or LT as the
case may be. Each member of the set should be marked with the member identification as
mentioned in the drawing The Materials shall be delivered suitably packed to avoid damage
during transport. H.T S.T support – 1.178 Kg / piece. L.T. S.T support – 0.864 Kg / piece, as
mentioned in drawings.

TSS-4.0 SPECIFICATION FOR CLAMPS


The specification of RCC clamp provides for the manufacture and supply of clamps for the
RCC Poles, for use in distribution lines, fabricated out of 50 x 6mm M.S flat, conforming to
commercial quality IS-1977 / SP-42 / ST-32. The hardness of steel should be as per the said
I.S.S. The RCC pole clamps shall be manufactured as per the - KEB /SIC/DL/WS-003 dt 20-
03-1980. The clamps shall be painted with two coats of ACB paint after primer. The clamps
shall be marked with suitable identification marks on each type of clamps for easy
identification. The clamps shall be securely packed so as to avoid damage in transit. The
length and weight of clamps is to be as mentioned in the drawings: RCC Pole clamps: ‘A’
Type… 428 mm …. 1.027 Kg.

TSS-5.0 SPECIFICATION FOR LINE MATERIALS SUCH AS 25/63/100/250 KVA


TC SET, TP AND DP SET
This specification provides for the manufacture and supply of line materials such as TC sets,
TP sets, DP sets, SPMT etc, for use in distribution line of voltage 11 KV / 415V.

The structural steel angles and flats for manufacture of the sets shall conform to IS: 1977/ST-
42/ST-32 commercial quality or latest version thereof MS Angles / flats / Channels shall
conform to IS hardness of steel, used shall be as per relevant ISS. The necessary bolts and
nuts used should conform to IS: 1363 & IS: 1367 of 1967 or latest version thereof. The
necessary GI Pipe should be of (A) class and should conform to IAA: 1239 Part-I / 1979 with
latest version thereof. Bolts and nuts supplied shall be of the following approved make only
i.e., GKW /TATA/ Industrial Fasteners / Pushpa Industries / India steel and wire products /
Garge fasteners Madras.

i. All materials shall be reasonably straight and free from twists, unless separately
mentioned otherwise in the drawing.
ii. Cutting may be effected by shearing, flame cutting, the surfaces so cut shall be
clear, smooth, free from distortion.
iii. Holes in the members shall either be drilled or punched.
iv. The length of the bolt shall be adequate.
v. The holes to be marked such that edge distance (min) shall be 20mm.

Each member of the set is to be marked with the number identification as mentioned in the
drawings. Materials shall be delivered suitably packed to avoid damage during transport, in
the form of Kit, supplied in plastic cover along with bill of materials and assembly drawings.
Each member of the set is to be painted with two coats of good quality red-oxide premier
paint. The weight of each number of line materials covered in Specification shall be as
mentioned in the drawing excluding bolts and nuts, G.I Pipe and spacers.

TSS-6.0 SPECIFICATION FOR 45KN DEAD END DISC INSULATORS 11KV


CLASS.

This specification covers details of 11KV Class 45KN Disc Insulators for use in 11KV
overhead lines in the distribution system.

APPLICABLE STANDARDS:

IS 2099:198 : Bushing for all voltage above 1000V.


IS 2486:1986 : Insulator fitting for OH.
Part1, 2, 3&4 : power lines for nominal voltage greater than 1000V.
IS 731:1971 : Porcelain insulators for overhead power lines.

The porcelain shall be sound, free from defects, thoroughly vitrified and smoothly glazed.
Unless otherwise specified, the glaze shall be brown in color. The glaze shall cover all the
porcelain parts of insulators except those areas which serve as supports during firing or are
left unglazed for the purpose of assembly. The design of insulators shall be shall be such that
stresses due to expansion and contractors in any part 6 of the insulator shall not lead to
deterioration. The porcelains shall not engage directly with hard metal. Cement used in
construction of insulators shall not cause fracture by expansion or loosing by contraction and
proper care shall be taken to locate the individual parts correctly during cementing. The
cement shall not give rise to chemical reaction with metal fittings and its thickness shall be as
uniform as possible. The insulators should be manufactured in automatic temperature
controlled kilns to obtain uniform baking and better electrical and mechanical properties.

Type test reports as per relevant standards shall be furnished along with the tender.
Acceptance and routine tests as stipulated in relevant standards shall be carried out in
presence of the buyer representative. Each insulator shall be legibly and indelibly
marked to show the following:
a. Name or trademark of manufacturer.
b. Month and year of manufacture.
c. Minimum failing load in KN.
d. ISI Certificate mark, if any

Markings on porcelain shall be printed and shall be applied before firing.

All insulators (without fitting) shall be packed in wooden crates suitable for easy but
rough handling and acceptable for road/rail transport, where more than one insulator is
packed in crate, wooden separators shall be fixed between the insulators to keep
individual insulators in position without movement within the crate. All test inspection
shall generally be made at the place of manufacturer. The manufacturer shall offer the
inspector representing the OWNER all reasonable facilities, without charges, to satisfy
him that the materials are manufactured in accordance with this specification.

TSS-7.0 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR 11 KV PIN INSULATORS (SHELL)

This specification covers details Porcelain insulators for use on 11KV overhead power lines
in the distribution system. Except when in conflicts with the specific requirements of this
specification, the insulators shall comply with IS.731 and SI.3188 as amended from time to
time.
B. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS – ELECTRICAL 10

The porcelain shall be sound, free from defects, thoroughly vitrified and smoothly glazed.
Unless otherwise specified, the glaze shall be brown in colour. The glaze shall cover all the
porcelain parts of insulators except those areas which serve as support during firing or are left
unglazed for the purpose of assembly. The design of insulators shall be such that stresses due
to expansion and contractors in any part of the insulator shall not lead to deterioration. The
porcelains shall not engage directly with hard metal. Cement used in construction of
insulators shall not cause fracture by expansion or loosening by contraction and proper care
shall be taken to locate the individual parts correctly during cementing. The cement shall not

possible. The insulators should preferably be manufactured in automatic temperature

TEST VOLTAGES:

The insulators shall comply with the tests as per IS: 831. Each insulator shall be legibly and
indelibly marked to show the following:

a. Name or trade mark of manufacturer.


b. Month and year of manufacture.
c. Minimum failing load in KN.
d. ISI Certificate mark, if any

Markings on porcelain shall be printed and shall be applied before firing.

All insulators (without fitting) shall be packed in wooden crates suitable for easy but rough
handling and acceptable for rail transport, where more than one insulator is packed in crate,
wooden separators shall be fixed between the insulators to keep individual insulators in
position without movement within the crate. All test inspection shall generally be made at the
place of manufacturer. The manufacturer shall afford the inspector representing the Engineer
all reasonable facilities, without charges, to satisfy him that the materials are being furnished
in accordance with this specification. The Owner has the right to have the tests carried out at
its own cost by an independent agency, when considered necessary.

TSS-9.0 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR STRANDED GI STAY WIRE

This specification covers for manufacture, testing before dispatch, supply and delivery of
Galvanized Stranded Steel Wire. The GI Stranded wire shall comply with the following India
Standards with their latest amendments if any.

a) I.S.-2141/1979 and the relevant standards indicated there.


b) Hot dip galvanized coatings for stranded wire shall conform to IS-4826/1979 and revisions
thereof.

The GI standard wires covered on this specification are intended for use on the over head
power line poles, distribution transformer structures etc. The GI standard wires shall be of 7
/ 3.15mm standard size.

the finished strand and the individual wires shall be of uniform quality and have the
appropriate properties and characteristics as specified in this specification. The wires shall not
contain sulphur and phosphorus exceeding 0.060% each. The wire shall be coated with zinc
of grade – Zn-89-IS:209/1966. The wires shall be of grade-4 having minimum tensile
strength70 kg per sq. mm or 800 N/mm2. The constructional details shall be as specified in
Table-‘A’ below. The galvanized stay strand shall be of 7 (seven) wires and the wire shall be
so stranded together that when an evenly distributed pull is applied at the ends of the
completed wire, each strand will take an equal share of the pull.

The wires shall be circular and shall be free from scale, irregularities, imperfections, split
surface flaws, rough, jagged and imperfect edges. The zinc coating shall be smooth, even and
bright.

Joints shall be permitted in the individual wires during stranding, but these stranding joints
shall not be less than 15 Mrs. Apart in the finished strands.
The outer wire of strands shall have a right hand lay.
The lay length of wire strands shall be 12 to 18 times the strand diameter.

Sampling criteria and the tests shall be in accordance with IS-2141-1979. A tolerance of (+)/(-
) 2.5% on diameter of wires before stranding shall be permitted.

The wires shall be subjected to the following tests before manufacture in accordance with IS:
2141. 1. Ductility test and 2. Tolerance on wire diameter.

The wires shall be subjected to the following test after completion on accordance with IS:
2141. 1. Tensile and elongation tests; percentage elongations of stranded wire shall not be
less than 6% and 2. Chemical analysis of sample from each lot.

Galvanizing test: - The zinc coating shall conform to heavy coating and number of dips
specified in IS:4826 –1979 The uniformity of zinc coating shall be tested by the method

specified in IS-2633/1964. The wire shall withstand the number of dips as specified in IS-
4826-1979 as indicated below in Table-‘B’:

TSS-10.0 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR ANCHOR ROD AND TURN


BUCKLE

This specification provides for the manufacture and supply of 1. Anchor rods for use in
distribution lines manufactured out of the structural MS Angle iron 65x 65 x 6mm and 12mm
dia rounds and Turn buckle for use in distribution lines manufactured out of the structural MS
Angle iron 50 x 50 x 6mm and 16mm dia rounds confirming to the commercial grade IS
1977/ST-42/ST-62 round and angles. Hardness of the steel shall be as per relevant ISS.

Anchor rod and Turn buckle shall be manufactured as per drawing No. KEB / SIC / DL /022
dt 25-07-1985. Anchor rod and Turn buckle shall be painted with two coats of ACB paint
after primer. Contractor shall submit a sample and get the approval of the OWNER before
taking up manufacture. Anchor rod and Turn buckle shall be suitably packed to avoid damage
during transport.

11.0 SPECIFICATION FOR GUY STRAIN INSULATORS

This specification covers the supply of 85 x 65 and 140 x 85-mm size guy strain Insulator
conforming Designations "A" and "C" Type conforming to IS: 5300 in all respects with latest
amendments. The porcelain of which the insulators are made is sound thoroughly vitrified
and smoothly glazed. The glaze should not be depended upon for insulation and shall as for as
practicable cover all the exposed porcelain parts of the insulator. The design of the insulators
shall be such that stresses due to expansion and contraction in any part of the insulator shall
not lead to deterioration. The glaze shall be brown in colour. The glaze shall cover the entire
porcelain surface parts except those areas that serve as supports during firing or are otherwise

TSS-12.0 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR RABBIT ACSR CONDUCTOR

the specification covers manufacture, testing and supply of ACSR conductors.


The conductor shall comply in all respects with the latest edition of ISS-298 (PartII) 1976
with its latest amendment. The Aluminum wires used in the manufacture of the conductor
shall be of the highest electrical quality and free from scratches, die marks and other surface
imperfections. They shall be reinforced with a central core of galvanized high tensile steel
wire having negligible sulphur and phosphorous contents. The steel wire shall not be subject
to any heat treatment after being galvanized. The zinc coating of steel wires shall be smooth
and of uniform thickness. There shall be no bare spots owing to adherence of scales or other
causes.
Joints in the individual Aluminium, wires are permitted but no two such joints shall be within
15 meters apart in the complete stranded conductors. There should be no joints in the
galvanized steel wire except those made in the base rod or wire before final drawing forming
the core of steel reinforced Aluminium.
The resistance of the individual Aluminium wire shall be determined separately before
stranding by means of standard tests on sample wires. The ACSR conductor size and standard
lengths shall be as per IS 398 (Part-II) 1976 with its latest amendments and as indicated in the
schedule of material specification.

The Aluminium wire and galvanized steel wire for the standard construction of conductors
have diameter specified as per Tables 1&2 Section of IS 398 (Part-II).

Test certificates in triplicate for tests on the finished ACSR conductor shall be submitted.
The suppliers shall furnish along with RCs, the number of pieces of conductor in each reel
and the length of individual pieces.

All tests as detailed in clause 12 of ISS-398 (Part-II) 1976 with its latest amendments shall be
carried out on conductors covered by this specification and shall be submitted by the
contractor for purchasers approval within four weeks of the acceptance of the letter of intent
of the purchaser. No change in the schedule of tests, unless desired by the purchaser shall be
subsequently made by the contractor or his sub-contractors of the manufacturers without prior
– consent of the purchaser.
The purchaser may at any time call for any tests that are laid down in the specification as
optional tests. The contractor shall arrange to carry out such tests expeditiously and at his
own cost. The certificates for such optional tests shall be submitted to the purchaser for
approval.

The contractor shall notify the purchaser, at least fifteen days in advance, the time of
manufacture so that inspection of materials during manufacture and or witnessing of the tests
can be arranged. If the purchaser waives inspection he will advice the contractor accordingly.
Inspection shall also include method of packing and stacking of finished materials in the
works.

Drawing of the reels/drums shall be enclosed with tenders. The ACSR conductor reels shall
be of dimensions approved by the purchaser and made of seasoned wood sufficiently strong
and in sound condition to ensure that the reels shall reach the site intact with lagging end free
from damage due to transport hazards by rail and over land. These reels shall conform to IS
1778/1961 with latest – amendments if any.

The standard length of the ACSR conductor shall be as per schedule of materials
specification. Longer lengths are acceptable.

The contractor shall submit in duplicate detailed packing specification for the conductors for
the purchasers approval at least fifteen days prior to commencement of dispatch. Finally
approved specification shall be furnished along with the dispatch documents.

The specification covers manufacture and supply of mild steel hexagonal black grade ‘B’
bolts and nuts, manufactured from 4.6 / 4.8 grade material as per ISS 1363 and its latest
revisions thereof.
The bolts and nuts shall be free from dirt, dust and burns, cleanly finished, so that it shall be
possible to turn the nuts freely with hand, but the ply shall be minimum. The bolts length less
than 65mm shall be fully threaded & above 65mm must be threaded to the extent specified in
IS:1363 and its latest revisions thereof. Tests shall be carried out in accordance with the
relevant clauses of IS 1363 and test certificates thereon shall be submitted to this office and
dispatches shall not be made till these test certificates are approved. The bolts and nuts shall
be supplied duly packed in heavy new gunny bags and the weight of the individual bag shall
not exceed 50 Kgs.

TSS-14 SPECIFICATION OF UNIVERSAL DISTRIBUTION CONNECTORS

1.0 The wedge type Universal Distribution Connector will consist of locking insert made
from a special aluminum alloy of high ductility and electrical conductivity, which can
be easily removed by screw driver. When connected, this will provide a tenable
electrical and mechanical connection for solid, stranded or compressed conductor
combinations including AAC, AAC & ACSR. The typical installation procedure of
wedge type connectors has been illustrated as Annexure-1.

2.0 The dimension for the wedge shall be manufactured to close tolerances to ensure
repeatability and reliability of the connection.

3.0 All sharp edges and burns shall be removed.

4.0 The wedges shall be furnished to achieve optimum surface roughness for electrical
contact.

5.0 The wedge connector shall meet the current cycle test requirement as per ANSI. C
199.4-1998 Class AA. When connected as specified, samples shall indicate electrical
stability for terminated connectors. The resistance of connections, when measured as
specified shall be stable throughout the tests. The samples shall be tested to 500 on /
off current cycles with the control conductor raised between 175o C to 180o C above
ambient.
6.0 The wedge connector shall meet the mechanical requirements as per ANSI. C 199.4-
1998 Class 3, minimum tension. When tested as specified or 5% of the rated cable
strength of the weaker conductor.
7.0 The wedge connector shall meet the following thermal shock/salt spray test.
a) Hours @ 150 o C
b) 15 minutes @ Oo C, water immediately from the oven
c) 30 minutes @ 150o C,
d) 20.75 hours at room temperature
8.0 Salt spray corrosion, samples shall be subject to a 30 days salt spray, corrosion test.
Each daily exposure shall consist of :
a) 15 hours in 5% salt spray atmosphere
b) 1 hour in e drying oven @ 100 o C
c) 8 hours at room temperature

15.02 SYSTEM DETAILS:

The transformers shall be suitable for outdoor installation with


3 Phase, 50 Hz, 11 kV system in which the neutral is effectively earthed and the same
shall be suitable for service under fluctuations in supply voltage up to 12%
permissible under Indian Electricity Rules and the frequency variation of -5% and
+2% (47.5Hz to 51.0Hz).

15.03 LIMATIC CONDITIONS:

The material used in the construction of the Distribution transformers shall be suitable
for use under the following climatic conditions.

15.05 TECHNICAL PARAMETERS:

a) Percentage Impedance:
The Percentage Impedance shall be 4.5% for transformers up to 100KVA and 5%
for transformers of 250KVA and 500KVA with tolerance as per IS: 2026.

b) Temperature rise:
The temperature rise for top oil over should be 45°C max (measured by
thermometer as per IS: 2026) over the ambient temperature.

c) The temperature rise for windings shall not exceed 50°C Max. (Measured by
resistance in accordance with IS: 2026) over the ambient temperature.

d) No Load Voltage Ratio:


The No Load Voltage ratio shall be 11000/433-240V, for all capacities of
distribution transformers at normal tap.

15.06 Capitalization of Losses:


The No load and load losses indicated under clause lI (losses and Impedance) in the
Technical specification are those maximum allowable losses, and there will not be any
positive tolerance. The losses mentioned are only indicative and maximum
permissible. For capitalization the guaranteed loss values quoted by the tenderer shall
be considered.

15.07 DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION

15.07.1 CORE

a) The core shall be of high grade CRGO steel sheet of M4 grade or superior to that
having low loss and non ageing grain oriented, coated with hot oil proof insulation,
bolted together to the frames firmly to prevent vibration or noise. All core clamping
bolts shall be effectively insulated
The complete design of core must ensure permanency of the core losses with
continuous working of the transformers. The value of the flux density shall not be
more than 1.7 tesla at 50 HZ.

section, minimum Nos. of core steps etc., shall be strictly as per the drawings
enclosed.

b) The transformers core shall not be saturated for any value of V/F ratio to the extent
of 112.5% of the rated value of V/F ratio i.e., 11kV/50Hz. (Due to combined effect
of voltage and frequency) upto 12.5% without injurious heating at full load
conditions the core shall not be saturated.

The Bidder shall furnish necessary design data in support of this condition

c) The maximum thickness of core laminations shall not exceed 0.3mm. Further the
lamination sheets used for top yoke, bottom yoke etc., shall be of single piece.

d) No load current, shall be measured by energizing the transformers at 433 volts


50 C/S on the secondary for distribution transformers. Increase of voltage by 10%
shall not increase the no load current disproportionately high. Test for magnetic
balance by connecting the LV phase by phase to rated phase voltage and
measurement of an, bn, cn, voltage shall be carried out. The no load current shall not
exceed 2% in respect of 250KVA and 500KVA Transformers and 4 to 5% in respect
of 100KVA and below distribution transformers at rated voltage and frequency.

e) The unbalance current in the neutral shall not be more than 2% of the rated current.

15.07.2CORE CLAMPING:

1. M.S. Channel 125 x 65mm for 500KVA, 100x50mm for 250 KVA
75 x 40mm for 100 KVA and below transformers on top and bottom shall be used
for clamping the core.

2. Nos. of 12mm high tensile vertical bolts in parallel in each side shall be provided.

15.07.6 INSULATION, INSULATION MATERIAL & CLEARANCES:

a) Press board blocks at top and bottom of each coil assembly shall be provided. There
must be at least 4 blocks per phase/coil of each of thickness of 30mm. Core wrapper
shall be of minimum of 1mm thick.

The channel at phase barrier board shall be of 2mm thick press board. The tie rod
insulation kraft paper shall be of thickness 1mm. Between HV and LV windings
addition press Board cylinder of at least 2mm in addition to spacers shall also be
provided.

b) No. of vertical/axial wedges up to 100 KVA minimum 18 Nos. and for 250 KVA &.
500KVA - 12 Nos. shall be provided depending upon the capacity of transformers
between LV and HV windings and equispaced around LV. The wedge shall be
minimum 6.5mm thick and 8-12mm wide.

c) The inter layer insulation shall be provided between HV windings layers depending on
the design. The details shall be furnished.

d) The Neutral connection of LT winding shall be formed using aluminium strip of same
size as that of 'S' type link of size 25x3mm. Aluminium strip for 25/63/l00 KVA and
40x5mm for 250KVA and 70x5 mm for 500KVA transformers.

e) The delta formation of HV winding shall be made using copper jumper leads of size
1.6mm dia. for 25/63/100KVA, 2.65 mm for 250KVA and 3.75 mm for 500KVA
transformers. The leads shall be enclosed in Kraft insulated paper tube.

f) Double paper covering shall be used for winding insulation both for HV & LV
windings. Either performed corrugated cylindrical boards or cylindrical compressed
boards with spacers shall be provided between HV & LV windings. Press board of
type - D IS: 1576 to be used for top and bottom yoke insulation. The electrical grade
insulating paper shall be of Triveni / Ballarpur or equivalent make subject to approval
of BESCOM. Press boards used shall be of M/s. Senapathi whitely or M/s.
Raman Boards or equivalent make subject to approval of BESCOM.

g) Radial clearance of LV coil to core (bare conductor) shall not be less than.

h) Radial clearance between HV and LV coils shall not be less than 10mm for all
capacities.

i) Phase to phase clearance between HV coils shall not be less than 15mm. A minimum
of 2 Nos. of 1mm press board shall be used to cover the tie rods.

j) The minimum electrical clearance between the winding and body of the tank (between
inside surface of the tank and outside edge of the winding) shall not be less than
30mm.

k) End insulation to earth shall not be less than 25mm.

l) HV & LV coils single coil multi layer winding shall be used for all capacities of
transformers.

m) Tap lead shall be insulated with 1.5 mm thick paper insulation. Inspection of windings
prior to tankings shall be done. Manufacturing drawing for the transformer showing
various clearance shall have to be approved by the BESCOM.

15.07.7TANK:

1) The transformer tank shall be of robust construction and shall be built of electrically
welded M.S. Plates (The side wall shall have only two joints). All joints of tank and
fittings shall be oil tight and no bulging shall occur during service.

The tank design shall be such that the core and windings can be lifted freely. The tank
plates shall be of such strength that the complete Transformer when filled with oil
could be lifted bodily by means of the lifting lugs provided. The tank inside shall be
painted by varnish. Top cover shall be slightly sloping towards HV bushings an cover
the top with end walls. Shape of the tank shall be Rectangular/Octagonal only. No
other shape will be accepted.

a) Side wall thickness - 3.15 mm


b) Top and bottom plate thickness - 5.00 mm
(3.15mm for 25KVA)

2) Suitable reinforcement by welded angle shall be provided on all the outside walls on
the edge of the tank. The permanent deflection shall not be more than 5mm up to
750mm length and 6mm up to 1250mm length and 8mm up to 1750mm length when
transformer tank without oil is subjected to Air pressure test as per IS:1180.

2 Nos, for 25,63 and 100KVA and 4 Nos. for 250 and 500KVA transformers of
welded heavy duty lifting lugs of M.S. Plate 8mm thick suitably reinforced by vertical
supporting flat welded edgewise below the lug on the side wall shall be provided.

4) Pulling lugs:

4 Nos. of welded heavy duty pulling lugs of M.S plate 8 mm thick for 250 & 500KVA
shall be provided to pull the transformer horizontally,

5) Top Cover Fixing Bolts:

 6mm Neoprene bonded cork gaskets confirming to IS-4352 Part-II shall be placed
between top cover plate and tank.

 GI bolts and nuts shall be size 12mm x 40mm with one plain and one spring
washer suitably apart (100mm) to press the cover.

6) Tolerance on tank dimensions shall be limited to -5% to + 10%.

15.07.8HEAT DISSIPATION:

a) Heat dissipation by tank walls excluding top and bottom should be 500 watts /
Sq. mtr.

b) Heat dissipation by radiator 1.25mm thick shall be considered for heat dissipation
calculation. The tenderer shall submit the calculation sheet along with No. of radiators
to be provided and type of fixing radiators to the transformer tank.
c) The guaranteed temperature rise of oil and winding shall be found by conducting
temperature rise test in presence of the representative of the BESCOM.

15.07.10 CONSERVATOR:
Conservators shall be provided on transformers of rating 63KVA, 100KVA, 250KVA
and 500KVA

When a conservator is fitted, the oil gauge and the plain or dehydrating breathing
device shall be fixed to the conservator which shall also be provided with a drain plug
and a filling hole (1¼ nominal size thread) with cover. In addition, the cover of the
main tank shall be provided with an air release plug to enable air trapped within to be
released. Unless the conservator is so located as to eliminate the possibility of air
being trapped within the main tank.
a) Prismatic oil level indicator shall be provided on the side which will be fully covered
detachable flange with single neoprene gasket and tightended with M.S. bolts and nuts.
b) The inside diameter of the pipe connecting the conservator to the main tank shall be
with in 20 to 50 mm and it should project in to the conservator in such a way that its end
is approximately 20 mm above the bottom of the conservator so as to create a sump for
collection of Impurities. The minimum oil level (corresponding to - 5° C) should be
above sump level.
c) The pipe from conservator tank connecting to main tank shall be sloping so that the oil
falling from the pipe shall not fall directly on the active parts and shall fall on the side
walls only.
d) The conservator shall be provided (except for 25KVA) with the drain plug and filling
hole with cover. In addition, the cover of the main tank shall be provided with an air
release plug (except for 25KVA).
e) Conservator pipes fixing conservator to the top plate of the transformer should be on
either side of metal pocket provided for mounting LT bushings with minimum electrical
clearance of 110mm between phases and also earth.

15.07.11 BREATHERS :

Breather joints shall be of bolted type. It shall have die cast Aluminium body and
inside container for Silicagel shall be of tin. Makes of Breathers shall be subject to
BESCOM approval.

The volume of the breather shall be


a. 250 grams of silicagel breather shall be provided for 25 KVA, 63 KVA and
100 KVA transformers.
b. For 250 KVA and 500 KVA transformers 500Gms. breather shall be provided.

The breather shall have an inspection window to view the condition of the silicagel.

15.07.12 TERMINALS:
a) Brass rods 12mm dia for HT and LT for 25KVA, 63KVA and 100KVA Transformers.

b) Brass rods 12mm dia for HT, 20mm dia for LT for 250 KVA and 12mm dia for HT
and 30mm dia for 500KVA transformers shall be provided.

c) HT/LT Bimetallic connectors shall be provided to 25KVA, 63KVA and 100KVA


transformers.

d) Connecting lugs shall be provided confirming to IS: 3347 for LT terminals of 250 and
500KVA Transformers.

e) The metallic connector shall be L type for LT bushing of distribution transformer of


capacity of 100, 250 and 500KVA.

The L type clamp shall be suitable to take off two/four circuits of 240 Sq. mm
aluminum wire (for 250, 500KVA transformers)

f) The HV and LV windings conductor shall not be terminated to the bushing rod
directly.

g) The HV winding shall be linked through a terminal lug and copper jumper lead of size
1.6mm dia for 25/63/100KVA, 2.65mm for 250KVA and 3.75mm for 500KVA
transformers. The leads shall be enclosed in kraft paper tube.

h) The LV winding shall be terminated using inverted 'S' type link of size 25x3mm
Aluminum strip for 25/63/100KVA, 40x5mm for 250KVA and 70x5mm for 500KVA
transformers.
1) All the leads / links shall be immersed in oil.
2) All the leads/links shall be taken neatly strapped on an insulated press
Board/wooden Bus Bar.

15.07.13 BUSHINGS:

I. For 11KV, 12KV Bushings (confirming to IS: 2099/1986) with single gap arcing
horns shall be used and for 433 volts, 1.1KV terminal Bushings confirming to IS:
7421/1974shall be used. Bushings of the same voltage class shall be inter changeable.
The dimensions of Bushings shall be as per IS-3347 and these Bushings shall be
mounted on side of the tank or on the top cover. The bushings mounted on the side
shall not have an inclination of more than 30 degrees from the vertical as per CBIP
manual and IS-2099. Only sheet metal pocket shall be provided for mounting HV
bushings alternately the same can be mounted on pipes. Creepage distance shall not be
less than 25mm/KV as per IS: 2099-1986.

II. Brazing of all internal connections – All jumpers from windings to bushing shall
have a cross section larger than tile winding conductor. For copper, silver brazing
alloy to be used. For aluminium, L&T aluminum brazing rods shall be used.

III. The minimum phase to phase and phase to earth external clearances for HV & LV
Bushings shall be as follows:

15.07.14 TANK BASE CHANNEL:

a) For 25, 63 & 100KVA Trans. ISMC 75 x 40mm. channel shall be used for base.
b) For 250 KVA transformers 100 x 50mm channel shall be used
c) For 500 KVA transformers 125 x 65mm channel shall be used

Stiffeners (flats) shall be provided to tank base channels, along the length of the tank for
250 and 500 KVA transformers.

15.07.15 A. TERMINAL MARKING PLATE AND RATING PLATES:

The transformer shall be provided with a brass plate showing the relative physical position of
the terminal and their markings. The relative position of the Tappings switches shall also be
shown in the plate, corresponding to the different tapping voltages in case of 250 KVA, and
500KVA distribution transformers. This shall be in accordance with IS: 2026. The
transformers shall be provided with rating plate furnishing the information as specified in IS-
2026.

The month and year of delivery shall be indicated on the rating plate. The rating plate shall be
embossed / engraved type but not painted. The serial No. of transformer shall follow the code
Nos. as detailed below. These shall be punch marked on the transformer tank and also on the
top cover.

The transformer shall be supplied complete with first filling of oil and tile same shall comply
with IS: 335/1993 with latest revisions thereof and ageing characteristics specified.

15.09 TESTS:
15.09.1 Type test
Type tests, routine tests and acceptance tests shall be conducted on transformers, of each
capacity. All the equipments offered, shall be fully type tested as per the relevant standards.

15.09.2 TYPE TEST

The following shall constitute the type tests as per IS-1180 (Part I) and IS: 2026/CBIP
manual.
a) Measurement of winding resistance
b) Measurement of voltage ratio and check of voltage vector relation ship
c) Measurement of impedance voltage/Short circuit impedance and load loss.
d) Measurement of no-load loss and current
e) Measurement of Insulation resistance.
f) Induced over voltage withstand test.
g) Separate source voltage withstand test.
h) Impulse voltage withstand test.
i) Temperatures rise test
j) Short circuit test
k) Air pressure test
l) Permissible flux density and over fluxing.
m) Un Balance current test: The value of unbalance current indicated by the Ammeter as
shown in the test arrangement of CBIP manual shall not be more than 2% of the full
load current.

NOTE:
A) One Distribution Transformers selected at random out of each lot of 200 Nos. will be
subjected to type at CPR1. The cost for 1st Lot of 200Nos. has to be borne by the
supplier and the cost for subsequent tests will be borne by BESCOM.

B) The transformer so selected at random vide item (A) shall also be subject to strip test

after all the type tests are conducted. After the strip test the transformer shall be
subjected to physical inspection as per ISS.

If the Transformer fails to meet the requirement of type tests, the quantity of
transformers ordered on them will be forthwith rejected.

Any subsequent tests if to be conducted as per the corporate approval shall be at the
cost of the supplier.
15.09.3 ROUTINE TEST

All transformers manufactured shall be subjected to the following routine test, at


the manufacturer's works - In accordance with IS:1180 (Part I & II) and IS:2026.
1) Measurement of winding resistance.
2) Measurement of voltage ratio and Check of voltage vector relationship
3) Measurement of impedance voltage/short circuit impedance and load loss.
4) Measurement of no load loss current and neutral current.
5) Measurement insulation resistance.
6) Induced over voltage withstand test.
7) Separate source voltage withstand test.
15.09.4 Type and Routine Test certificates:

1. All the type and routine tests as stipulated in the relevant standards shall be carried out
by the supplier in the presence of BESCOM representative.

2. Immediately after finalization of tile programme of type/ acceptance/ routine testing,


the supplier shall give fifteen days advance intimation to the BESCOM to enable to
depute its representative for witnessing the tests. The routine test certificate shall be
submitted along with tile inspection offer.

15.10 TOLERANCES:

Unless otherwise specified herein, the values of different parameters of the


transformers supplied shall be within the tolerance permitted in the IS-2026 on the
guaranteed values. Positive tolerance is not applicable for losses and negative
tolerance not applicable for cross sections of winding specified.

15.11 FINISHING:
The exterior of the transformer tank and other ferrous fittings shall be thoroughly
cleaned, scrapped/sand blasted and given a priming coat and two finishing coats of
durable oil the weather resistance paints or enamel. The colour of finishing coats for
transformers shall be as follows, as per IS: 5.
a) For 25 KVA - Sky Blue shade No. 101
b) For 63 KVA - Silver Grey shade No. 628
c) For 100 KVA - Brilliant green shade No. 221
d) For 250 KVA - Dark admiralty grey shade No. 632
e) For 500 KVA -

15.12 GUARANTEED TECHNICAL PARTICULARS:


The guaranteed technical particulars as per Annexure I & II to be filled and submitted by

the Tenderer. The transformers to be supplied against this order shall have the value as
per Technical specifications. Any deviation in GTP mentioned should be furnished in
deviation schedule separately (Annexure-III).

15.13 DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE:


The successful bidder shall have to furnish the routine test certificates along with the
central excise gate pass and the purchase invoices for the purchase of CRGO sheet, core
material, oil and aluminum wire, bushings, steel (required for fabrication of the
transformer tank) etc., at the time of routine testing of the fully assembled transformer.

15.14 TESTING FACILITY:


The supplier shall have adequate testing facility to conduct the routine tests.

15.15 QUALITY ASSURANCE PLAN:

In respect of raw materials such as core stamping, winding, conductor, insulating


paper and oil, the manufacturer shall use these materials manufactured/supplied by the
standard manufacturers and furnish the manufacturers test certificates as well as the
proof of purchase from these manufacturers (excise gate pass) for information of
corporation.

The bidder shall invariably furnish following information along with his offer, failing
which his offer, shall be liable for rejection.

Statement giving list of important raw materials including but not limited to :
a) Core material
b) Winding material
c) Insulation paper and press boards.
d) Transformer oil
e) Bushings
f) Tanks, conservator and radiators

Names of sub supplier for the raw materials, list of standards according to which the raw
materials are tested, list of tests normally carried out on raw materials in presence of
Bidder's representatives, copies of test certificates.

1. Information and copies of test certificates as in (1) above in respect of bought out
accessories.

2. List of areas in manufacturing process where stage inspections are normally carried
out for quality control and details of such tests and inspections.

3. Special features provided in the equipment to make it maintenance free.

4. List of testing equipment available with the bidder for final testing of transformers
vis-à-vis, the type, special, acceptance and routine tests specified in the relevant
standards. The limitations shall be very clearly brought out in the relevant schedule

i.e., schedule of deviations from specified test requirements.

The supplier shall within 30 days of placement of order, submit following information to tile
purchaser.

a) List of raw materials as well brought out accessories and the names of sub suppliers
selected from those furnished along with offer.

b) Type test certificates of the raw material and bought out accessories.

c) Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) with hold points for purchaser's inspection. The quality
assurance plans and hold points shall be discussed between the purchaser and supplier
before the QAP is finalized.

The supplier shall submit the routine test certificate of bought out items and raw material, at
the 6mm of routine testing of the fully assembled Transformer.

15.16 INSPECTION:

The supplier shall give 10 days advance intimation to the purchaser to organize stage
inspection of the Transformer in which the assembly of core and the winding could be
inspected. The BESCOM may at its option, open a transformer supplied to the stores,
in the presence of the successful tenderer at site or at BESCOM stores. If any of the
technical particulars are seen to be at variance with the guaranteed technical
particulars the whole lot of transformers will be rejected and risk purchase resorted to.

15.17 Inspection and Testing of Transformer Oil:


To ascertain the quality of the transformer oil, the original manufacturer's test report
should be submitted at the time of inspection. Also arrangements shall be made for
testing of Transformer oil, after taking out the sample from the manufactured
transformer and tested in the presence of BESCOM’s representative or in any
independent laboratory viz., B.D.V. test should be conducted in presence of BESCOM
representatives.

15.18 DOCUMENTATION:
15.18.1 All drawings shall conform to international standards organization (ISO) 'A' Series
of drawing sheet/Indian standards specification IS:656. All drawings shall be in ink
and suitable for micro filming. All dimensions and data shall be in SI Units.

15.18.2 list of typical Drawings and Documents enclosed:


1) DT1 – General drawing showing internal clearance dimensions and active parts.
2) DT2 – Dimensional sketch for 25KVA Transformer.

15.18.3 The suppliers should manufacture and supply the transformers strictly as per the
specifications and as detailed in the above drawings only, and no deviations are
permitted
15.18.4 The supplier shall furnish all the details of constructional feature showing tile details

of all the items in the plan, sectional elevation and tile side elevation and indicate
these details/dimensions.

15.18.5 The supplier shall furnish the magnetization characteristic curve for the core material
of the transformer.

15.18.6 Two sets of the type test reports, duly approved by the BESCOM shall be submitted
by the supplier for distribution before commencement of supply.

15.18.7 The manufacture of the equipments shall be strictly in accordance with the approved
drawings and no deviation shall be permitted without written approval of the
Corporation. All manufacturing and fabrication work in connection with the
equipment prior to the approval of tile drawing shall be at tile suppliers risk.

15.18.8Approval of drawings / work by BESCOM shall not relieve the supplier of his
responsibility and liability for ensuring correctness and correct interpretation of the
drawings for meeting the requirement of the latest revision of applicable standards,
rules and codes of practices. The equipments shall conform in all respects to high
standards of engineering design workmanship and latest revisions of relevant
standards at the time of supply and the BESCOM shall have the power to reject any
work or materials which in his judgment is not in full accordance there with.

15.19 PACKING AND FORWARDING:

Each consignment shall be accompanied by a detailed packing list containing the


following information.

a) Name of the Consignee.


b) Details of Consignment.
c) Destination.
d) Total weight of consignment
e) Signs showing upper / lower side of the crate.
f) Bill of Materials including contents of each package.

The monogram/name of the firm shall be blanked on the top cover of the Transformer.

15.19.1History Books (as per the proforma enclosed) shall be supplied for all the individual
transformers along with the transformers. The size of the History Books shall be
150mm and 210mm for all capacities with different colour for wrappers for early
identifications of the Transformers.

15.20 PUNCH MARKING OF TRANSFORMER SERIAL NO.

The serial No. of the Transformer shall be punch marked on the transformers tank and
also on the top cover in addition to that indicated on the name plate as per relevant
clause.

This specification provides for design, manufacture, inspection, testing before dispatch,
packing and delivery of Surge Arresters suitable for 11KV System. Except to the extent

1.03 General Requirements:

a) The materials and components not specifically stated in this specification but which are
necessary for satisfactory operation of the equipment are deemed to be included in the
scope of supply unless specifically excluded.

b) Each individual unit of Surge Arrester shall be hermetically sealed and fully protected
against ingress of moisture. The hermetic seal shall be effective for the entire inhume of
the Arrestor and under the service conditions as specified. The supplier shall furnished
sectional view of the Arrestor, showing details of sealing employed.

1.04 Construction:

a) All the units of Arresters of the same rating shall be interchangeable without adversely
affecting the performance.
b) Single Arresters shall be suitable for out door mounting.

1.05 Porcelain Housing:

a) All porcelain housings shall be free from lamination cavities or other flaws affecting the
maximum level of mechanical and electrical strengths.
b) The porcelain shall be well verified and non-porous.
c) The creepage distance of the arrester housing shall be as per clause 4.01.
d) The porcelain petticoat shall be preferably of self cleaning type (Aerofoil design).

TSS17 SPECIFICATIONS FOR 11 KV HG FUSE UNITS

This specification covers the manufacture, testing at manufacturer’s works and supply of
11 KV Horn Gap fuse units. The fuse units shall conform to drawing No.KPTCL/SIC/WS-
16B/20.12.1985 and as per details given in technical specifications.
The fuse units are to be installed at places with the following weather conditions:

Temperature: Maximum ambient --- 500 C


Average --- 320 C
Minimum --- 50 C
The fuse shall conform to IS, dealing with high voltage expulsion and drop out fuses.
The Insulator used shall be 11 KV solid core type, the drawing and technical specifications of
which are enclosed. The following brands of solid core insulators are preferred:

a) M/S. Jayashree Insulators.


b) M/S. Techno ceramics, Calcutta.
c) M/S. Gold star corporation, Khunja.
d) M/S. Allied ceramics, Calcutta.
e) M/S. India potteries, Calcutta.

In case the insulators other than the above specified are used in manufacture of HG Fuse units
then the bidder shall furnish the type test certificate of the solid core insulators from the
recognized laboratories/Research Institutes or testing house. The original certificate in all
such cases shall be produced for verification.
The Fuse units shall be suitable for both horizontal mounting and vertical mounting. The
mounting shall be by using 45x45x5 mm cleat welded to 25x6 mm M.S. flat fixed to the
central portion of the insulator. All the M.S. Parts shall be hot dip galvanized as per relevant
I.S.
The fuse units shall be provided with arcing horns of 8 mm diameter hot dip galvanized steel
rod. The other particulars like G.I. strip, brass wing nuts, G.I. flat etc., are furnished in the
drawing enclosed.
The H.G. Fuse unit shall be designed to withstand voltage for solid core insulators. Type tests
on one of the H.G. Fuse units as per the provision of the IS shall be conducted in recognized
laboratory approved by the board and the certificates along with the drawing attested by the
concerned laboratory shall be submitted for approval before taking up the works.

The H.G. Fuse units shall be provided with a name plate legibly and indelibly marked with
the following information:
1) Name of the material.
2) Name of the manufacturer.
3) KRWSSA.
4) Type drawing and Sl. No.
5) Rated voltage & Rated current.
6) IS specification No. if any.

TSS-18: SPECIFICATION FOR SOLID 11 KV SOLID CORE INSULATORS:


This specification covers manufacture, testing and supply of 11 KV solid core insulators to be
used for the manufacture of HG fuse units required for the 11 KV distribution systems.

The insulator shall be solid core type, brown glazed porcelain conforming to the drawing
SIC/WS/16B-1 dated 31.01.86 herein enclosed with the technical details and shall be suitable
for highest system voltage of 12 KV. The insulator shall be in one piece. The stresses due to
expansion and contraction in any part of the insulators shall not lead to its deterioration. The
insulator shall be glazed effectively on all the surfaces except for the parts on which the
porcelain is supported during firing which may be left unglazed.

The insulator shall pass visual test, dimensional test, porosity test, puncture test, temperature
cycle test as per relevant ISS.

Following tests shall be conducted and test certificate duly signed by a responsible officer of
the manufacturer shall be submitted.

1. Dry power frequency voltage withstand test.


2. Dry power frequency voltage flashover test.
3. Wet power frequency voltage withstand test.
4. Wet power frequency voltage flashover test.
5. High voltage impulse voltage withstand test.
6. High voltage 50% impulse flashover test.
7. High voltage visible discharge test.
8. Electro mechanical failing load test.

Insulators shall be securely packed in crates of boxes so as to withstand handling during


transit and storage. Each insulator shall be legibly and indelibly marked with the following:

1. Name and Trade mark of the manufacturer.


2. Month and year of manufacture.
3. I.S.I. certification, if any.

The marking shall be durable and shall be printed by the transfer process before firing.
The supplier shall afford facilities to the Boards representative to inspect their works during
the process of manufacture of insulators and also for testing.

TSS-19: SPECIFICATION FOR 11 KV, 200 AMPS, SINGLE BREAK GROUP


OPERATING SWITCHES.

This specification covers the manufacture, testing at manufacturer’s works and supply of 11
KV group operating switches of single break 200 Amps. Capacity complete with accessories,
such as operating pipe, connecting pipe guides, supporting insulators, link work and locking
arrangement, etc., complete conforming to IS/9920(Pt.1 to 5).
The switches are to be installed at the places with the following weather conditions:
Temperature: Maximum ambient --- 500 C
Average --- 320 C
Minimum --- 50 C
Altitude : 0 – 1000 mtrs above sea level.
The equipment offered shall conform to IS 9920 or its latest version thereof. The switches
shall be suitable for horizontal upright mounting.

The base shall be made of robust rolled M.S.channel section of size 75 x 40 mm. All ferrous
parts shall be hot dip galvanized and all copper parts shall be tinned. The rotating parts shall
be fitted with suitable bearing. The blades and contacts shall be made of best quality
electrolytic copper and shall be capable of carrying the rated current without exceeding the
temperature limits specified in IS 9920. The insulators shall be post type, brown glazed
porcelain.

THE INSULATORS USED FOR THE G.O.S.SHALL BE OF THE MAKES OF (1)


BHEL, (2) JAYASHREE INSULATORS OR (3) W.S.INSULATORS ONLY.
The operating pipe shall consist of tandem pipe (Spindle rod) of length 1905 mm and the
vertical pipe of length 5500 mm. The pipe shall be 25 mm dia. Class “A” type GI pipe. The
operating mechanism shall be so designed that all the 3 phases are opened or closed
simultaneously. The bimetallic P.G. clamps for terminating ACSR conductors shall be
provided. All the iron parts should be hot dip galvanized and should conform to relevant
I.S.S.
The switches shall be supplied with hot dip galvanized arcing horns so that while closing or
opening the switches, arcing takes place between the arcing horns and not between the main
contacts. Suitable locking arrangements shall be provided for the operating handle. The
switches shall be designed to withstand the test voltage as per IS: 9920 or its latest revision
thereof. The switches shall be designed to have the following current ratings.

Continuous current carrying capacity:


a) Without over heating 200 Amps.
b) 3 Seconds rating 6.6 KA.
c) Peak 16.8 KA.

Routine Tests: The Routine test as per I.S.9920 shall be conducted on each G.O.S. and
certificate shall be submitted duly signed by a responsible officer of the manufacturer before
taking up the works.
Type Tests: The following type tests on one G.O.S. specifications IS 9920 shall be conducted
in a recognized laboratory, and the test certificate with the drawing conducted by the
concerned laboratory shall be submitted for approval before taking up the works.
OWNER reserves the right to get type test conducted on a selected G.O.S in the presence of
OWNER’s testing staff at the cost of the supplier as per IS 9920.

TSS-20 SPECIFICATIONS FOR LT FUSE KIT ( Protection Kit)

This specification covers design manufacture and supply of LT Fuse kit for distribution
transformer. The LT fuse kit offered shall be suitable for outdoor installation and mounting
on RCC poles. They shall serve for protection on LV side of distribution transformer of
capacity up to and inclusive of 100 KVA in distribution system. The Aerial fuse along with
its mounting shall outdoor installations
The LT Fuse Kit along with its component/mounting arrangement shall conform to latest
action of relevant standards.

The component offered shall be complete and operative on all aspects and shall conform to
high standard of Engineering design and workmanship.
Any material accessory which may not have been specially mentioned but which is necessary
for usual and satisfactory operation shall be included in the offer.

The brief Technical particulars of various components to be offered are as here under. A
Typical drawing No.CWD/MISC/SGR dt 27.11.96 detailing the LT Fuse kit to be offered is
annexed. It is clarified that the dimensions regarding mounting and conductor size are
binding. The other dimensions are indicative. The fittings shall be assembled in accordance
with the manufacturer’s recommendations on conductors of size and type with which it is to
be used.The fuses shall be as per relevant standards.

1.1KV Pin Insulators:


a) They shall conform to IS-1445/1977 and baked in temperature controlled Kiln only.

TSS-21:Technical specification for spiral earth electrode:


This specification is for spiral /coil earthing for non current carrying parts of DP structures in
a distribution system.

The materials used shall be No:8 switching GI wire or higher size closely wound 115 turns as
per drawing SIC/MISC/001 and SIC/DL/004.

TSS-22 Technical specification for pipe type earthing


This specification is for pipe earthing for transformer body and neutral of distribution
transformer centers. The number / configuration of earthing conductor to be run from
individual equipments is as detailed below:

Transformer neutral - 2 distinct earth level from the bushing to be run in to a common earth
electrode).

Transformer body - The body shall be connected to earth through a pipe earth electrode.
Earthing arrangements shall be as per drawing SIC / MISC/001 & SIC/DL/004. Clamps out of
40x3 MS flat to be provided for earth connection. Bolt to be used shall be 12mm dia.

TSS-23 -SPECIFICATION FOR LT 2 PIN AND 4 PIN CROSS ARMS

This Specification provides for the manufacture and supply of 2 pin and 4 pin and cross arms
for the use of 415 / 240 V lines and manufactured out of M.S Angles 45 x 45 x 5 mm
conforming to commercial quality IS1977 / ST-42 / ST-32.

The materials to be supplied should conform to our drawing No. KEB / Tech / Misc / 241 dt
02-03-1985 for 2 pin and 4 pin cross arms. The cross arms should be painted with two coats
of good quality ACB paints after primer.

The cross arms should have voltage grade marked on it, as “415 /240 V”.
The contractor shall submit a sample and get the approval before taking up the works. The
cross arms shall be suitably packed to avoid damage during transport. The length and weight
of cross arms is to be as mentioned in the drawing.

TSS-24 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR 1.1KV L.T.PIN INSULATOR


(SHELLS)

This specification covers, manufacture, testing and supply of L.T. Pin insulators to be used in
the distribution of electrical energy for taking the power lines of voltage 430/460 volts. The

highest system voltage is 1,000 Volts. The pin insulators shall fully conform to IS: 1445/1977

The glaze, unless otherwise specified, shall be brown in colour. Except for the screw threads
and the parts on which the porcelain is supported during firing, which may be left unglazed,
all other firing, which may be left unglazed, all other surface of the insulator shall be
effectively glazed. The design of the insulator shall be such that stresses due to expansion and

prescribed in IS:1443/1997 for insulators with any latest amendments from a recognized
laboratory.

The supplier shall afford facilities to the owner’s representatives to inspect his works during
the process of manufacture of the insulators. All routine tests and acceptance tests on the
specified number of samples as per columns 1 and 2 of table-3 in Appendix ‘B’ of IS-
1445/1977 for insulators shall be conducted in the presence of the company representative. If
necessary, the type tests shall be conducted on selected pieces in the presence of company’s
representative.

TSS-25 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR 1.1KV GI PIN

This specification covers details of 1.1 KV G.I. Pin for use on 433/250 Volts power line in
the overhead distribution line. The insulators offered shall fully conform to IS: 1445/1977
with latest amendments, if any. Pins, Nuts, and Washers suitable for insulator shall be
supplied.

The pins shall be obtained by the process of forging. They shall be of good finish, free from
flaws and other defects. The finish of the collar shall be such that a sharp angle between the

collar and the shank is avoided. All ferrous pins, nuts and washers except those made of
stainless steel, shall be galvanizing and shall be well oiled or greased.

Pins shall have a stalk length of 135mm, shank length of 125mm and minimum failing load

Insulator fittings shall comply with the following tests as per IS: 7935.

The wires shall be drawn from the wire rods conform8ing to IS:7887-1975 or the latest
version thereof.

The requirements for chemical composition for the wires shall conform to IS:7887.
The wire shall be sound, free from split surface flaws rough jagged and imperfect edges and
other detrimental defects on the surface of the wires.

The wires shall be galvanized with Heavy Coating as per IS:4826-1979 or the latest version
thereof.

G.I. wire shall be classified into two grades based on their tensile strength.
Grade Tensile strength (MPA)
i) Annealed 300-550
ii) Hard 550-900

The tolerance on nominal diameter at any section of wire shall not exceed + 2.5%. Further,
the maximum difference between the diameters at any two cross-sections of wire shall not
exceed 2.5%.

The following tests shall be carried out in accordance with IS:280-1978 or the latest version
thereof as per sampling criteria stipulated therein.

i. Dimensional check (dia)


ii. Visual inspection regarding freedom from defects
iii. Tensile test.
iv. Wrapping test (for wire diameters similar than 5mm).
v. Bend test (for wire diameters 5mm only)
vi. Coating test
vii. Chemical composition.

The wires shall be supplied in 50-80 Kg coils each having single continuous length. Each coil
of wire shall be suitably bound and fastened compactly and shall be protected by suitable
wrapping.

Each coil shall be provided with a label fixed firmly on inner part of the coil bearing the
following information:
a) Manufacture’s name coil number.
b) Lot number and coil number.
c) Size.
d) Grade (Annealed or Hard).
e) Mass.
f) Length.
g) ISI certification mark, if any.

TSS-28 Technical specification for low tension current transformer

This specification covers manufacture, test and supply of L.T. current transformers of class
1.0 & 0.5 accuracy. The CT’s shall be suitable for metering purpose. The CT’s shall be of bar
primary type (Ring type).The secondary leads shall be terminated with tinned copper rose
contact terminals. Polarity (both for primary and secondary leads) shall be marked. The CT’s
shall be varnished fiber glass tape insulated air cooled type. The CT’s shall conform to IS
2705 Part-I and II of 1992 with latest amendments if any. The CT’s shall have markings and
name plate as per IS 2705 of 1992 in addition to the marking CESC and Sl. No. and name of
the manufacture. The bore diameter of the CT shall not be less than 35mm. the ring type CT’s
shall have suitable clamp to fix the Ct to panel Board.

Copies of all the type test conducted as per IS:2705 part-I and II of 1992 in a recognized
laboratory shall be submitted along with the tender, in case the type tests have not yet been
got conducted, the tenderer shall agreed to get the tests conducted at his cost before taking up
the manufacturer.

the tenderer shall conduct all the routine tests such as Ratio test, phase angle error test (for
accuracy class 1.0) etc., as per IS 2705 Part-I and II have been tested satisfactory in the
presence of our representatives, shall be supplied to the destination stores and the CT’s which
are not tested before our representative will not be accepted. Only manufactures having

against this tender.

TSS-29 Technical specification for meter boxes for housing CT operated Electro-
mechanical meter to be fixed to distribution transformer centers.

This specification covers the design, manufacture and testing meter box of excellent weather
ability so as to offer protection to Electro-mechanical meter against harsh weather, external
hazards and internal hazards, anti-corrosive, dust proof rust proof, shock proof, vermin and
water proof and pilfer proof.

It should also conform as per the technical requirements as per drawing.


It shall consist of 2 compartments. The upper compartment is meant for housing CT’s and the
lower compartment is for housing the meter.

Material of construction of meter box shall be sheet steel 2mm, CRCA /MS sheet.
The viewing window on the meter chamber should be made of glass 210mm x160mm x 6mm
thick. The arrangement shall prevent entry of water and suitable for outer and tamper proof.

The bid/cover shall rest on the collar of the meter and CT box base in such a way that may
access from outside to the meter is not possible.

The door in closed position should be overloaded such that direct entry of screwdriver or tool
is not possible. The meter and CT box shall have locking and sealing arrangements.

The meter chamber should have a window with transparent cover for meter reading. This
transparent cover should be fixed from inside such that it cannot be replaced without opening
door thereby making the meter box pilfer proof.

3.02 The top surface of box shall have tapering shape for easy flow of rain water. Suitable
hole should be provided for wire seal.

3.03 Slotted angle of suitable size shall be provided on the rear wall of the box for its safe
mounting on the pole.

3.04 Earth bolt of 6mm dis. X 19mm length will be provided with double nut and double
washer.

3.05 Four holes plugged with plastic / rubber caps should be provided for cable / wire entry
as shown on drawing. The size of the holes shall be suitably modified depending on the size
of the cable used for connections.

3.06 All the comers of the meter box should be round and not pointed ones.

ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS
A. WIRING SYSTEM
Wires shall be drawn with adequate care. Correct colour coding as per Table No. 1/5
shall be used for phase, neutral and earth. Wires shall not have intermediate joint in
between terminals of the accessories. Earth-wire and Return wire (neutral) may
be looped only within circuit. For lighting load or single-phase distribution wires
of two different phases shall not be drawn in single pipe. Lead wires of sufficient
extra length shall be provided and shall be terminated in the terminals of accessories
only, with correct type of and correct size of lugs.
Testing:
Insulation resistance test:
All wiring shall be tested with 500V Megger between phases, phase – neutral
and to Earth. IR value shall not be less than 1M-ohm.
Earth continuity:
Earth continuity shall be ensured at all earth terminals and at earth terminals of
metal enclosures.
Polarity test:
Polarity test shall be carried out for ensuring polarity in switch and plug.
A1. SYSTEM OF WIRING: The system of wiring shall consist of PVC insulated copper
conductor wires in Heavy gauge rigid PVC conduits for both concealed and for surface
Installations as called for.

A2. GENERAL: Prior to laying and fixing of conduits, the contractor shall carefully
examine the drawings indicating the layout, satisfy himself about the sufficiency of
number and size of conduits, locating of junction boxes, size and location of
switch boxes and other relevant details. Any discrepancy found in the drawings shall be
brought to the notice of the Architect. Any modifications suggested by the contractor
shall be got approved by the consultants before the actual laying of conduits is
commenced.

A3. MATERIALS:

A3.1 CONDUITS: Generally concealed electrical wiring installation shall be done in PVC
conduits and surface wiring shall be in M.S. conduits.

A3.2 P.V.C. CONDUITS:


Conduits and accessories shall conform to relevant Indian Standards. PVC conduits
shall be of the black, round, heavy gauge Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) conduit. The
conduits internal surface shall be smooth. All flexible conduits shall be of steel.
Only approved quality factory made bends/accessories shall be used unless
otherwise stated. Minimum size of conduits shall be 20mm diameter with 2mm wall
thickness.

A3.3 The conduits shall be delivered to the site of construction in original bundles and each
length of conduit shall bear the label of the manufacturer.

A3.3.1 The number of 650/1100 volt grade PVC insulated copper conductor wires that may
be drawn in the conduits of various size are given below and space factor shall not
exceed 40%.
Maximum permissible numbers of 650/1100 volt grade PVC insulated wires that may
be drawn into rigid non metallic or MS conduits are given below:

A3.3.2 BENDS IN CONDUIT: Where necessary, bends or diversions may be achieved by


means of bends and/or circular inspection boxes with adequate and suitable inlet and
outlet terminations. In case of recessed system each junction work shall be provided
with a cover properly secured and flush with the finished wall surface. No bend shall
have radius less than 2-1/2 times the outside diameter of the conduit. Ready made
bends shall be used where required.

A3.3.3 SWITCH OUTLET AND JUNCTION BOXES: All concealed outlet boxes for
switches, sockets and other receptacles shall be rust proof and shall be of thick
Galvanized steel (G.I.) boxes having smooth external and internal surfaces to finish.
All outlet boxes for receiving plug sockets and switches shall be Standard factory
made and approved sizes, and shape. All boxes shall have adequate number of knock
out holes of required diameter and earthing terminal screws. Outlet boxes shall be of a
minimum depth of 65 mm.

A3.3.4 LIGHT OUTLET BOXES: The Light Outlet Boxes for concealed and surface
installation shall be of round M.S box with knock out holes/projections to connect
M.S. pipes.

A3.3.5 INSPECTION BOXES: Rust proof inspection boxes of 2 mm thick mild steel
sheet having smooth external and internal finish shall be provided to facilitate
removal and replacement of wires, where required.

A3.3.6 FAN OUTLET: The Ceiling fan outlets shall be M.S Fabricated with concealed
hook for all concealed type of installation.

A3.4 METAL CONDUITS


3.2.1 Galvanised Steel (G.I)/M.S Conduits GI conduits and accessories shall conform
to IS 9537(Part 2), IS 2629, IS 2633 and IS 4736-86. Conduits and accessories shall be
of heavy gauge and hot dip galvanised. Minimum size of conduit shall not be less than
20mm dia and having minimum wall thickness of 1.6mm up to 32mm dia and 2.0mm,
above 32mm dia conduits.
Black Stove enameled steel conduits (M.S conduits) and accessories shall conform
to IS 9537 (Part 2)-81.Solid drawn heavy gauge screwed steel conduits protected by
black bituminous enamel shall have be provided were called for Conduits shall
have ISI mark. Minimum size of the conduit shall not be less than 20mm dia
having a minimum wall thickness of 1.6mm up to 32mm and 2.0mm above
32mm dia conduits.

Joints between conduits and accessories shall be securely made to ensure earth
continuity. Conduit accessories such as bends, coupling etc., shall be conforming to
relevant Indian Standard Specifications.

The conduits shall be delivered to the site of construction in original bundles and each
length of conduits shall bear the label of the manufacturer and ISI mark.

The number of 650/1100 Volt grade PVC insulated copper conductor wires that
may be drawn in the conduits of various sizes shall be in conformity with code of
practice for electrical wiring installation IS 732-1989.

A3.4.1 G.I CONDUIT BENDS AND COLLARS


The G.I conduit bends and collars shall be hot dip galvanized and having internal
threading screwed joints of the conduits. The bends and covers shall conform to IS
2667. Conduits bends and collars shall be of heavy duty and shall be preferably of the
same make as of the conduits. The minimum radius of the conduits bend shall be 2.5
times the outer diameter of the conduits. Wherever necessary, conduit bends with
inspection door shall be used. Only factory made readymade bends shall be used.

A3.4.2 SURFACE TYPE BOXES


The boxes for mounting switches, sockets and other wiring devices shall be either
moulded plastic or heavy gauge CRCA sheet steel painted to match the colour of
wall. The box shall be suitable to terminate the G.I/M.S surface conduit into the box.
The size and shape of box shall match the exact type combination of switch plates,

receptacles and wiring devices. Deep boxes shall be used to facilitate easy termination
of conduit and wires/cables. Separate screwed earth terminal shall be provided in the
box for earthing.

A3.5 SWITCHES, RECEPTACLES AND FIXTURES

SWITCHES: All 6/16 amps switches shall be enclosed type flush mounted Piano Type
suitable for 240 volts, 50Hz AC supply. All switches shall be fixed inside the Purpose
Made switch boxes adjustable plate. Ample space at the back and sides shall be
provided for accommodating wires. Switch controlling the light point shall be
connected to the phase wire of the circuit. The Switch plate shall be white plastic or
any other approved type.
Fixing Switchboards and accessories:
Control switchboards shall generally be erected at 1.35m height or as specified and
fixed with minimum 2 Nos. of screws of length not less than 50 x 8mm, Boards shall
be in line and plum and shall be in level with wall surface so as to fix mounting plate
flush with wall, Termination of wires shall be done in switch and other
accessories only by carefully inserting all strands in terminals and proper
tightening. Switches shall be provided on phase wire only. Bare wire shall not
be used for looping incoming supply to switches. Phase wire shall be routed
through switch only. For plug socket phase wire shall be connected in right side
terminal when seen from front. Proper termination of earth wire in Earth terminal
shall be ensured. All blank modules shall be plugged with blanking plates
A3.6 WALL SOCKET OUTLETS : Following types of socket outlet generally used for
Interior use:
1) 6A 3 Pin Switched Socket outlet in guest rooms, toilet etc., lobby, restaurant etc.,
2) 16A 3 pin switched socket with Indicator for power points.
3) 16 Amps, commercial type socket controlled by 16 Amps S.P. MCB mounted in a
fabricated M.S. box with cover plate.

A4. INSTALLATION OF CONDUIT

A4.1 CONCEALED CONDUIT SYSTEM

Unless otherwise Specified all wiring shall be in heavy gauge Rigid metal conduit
embedded in wall, or ceiling and concealed in the false ceiling. The size of the
conduit shall be selected conformity with I.S. code and as specified in the table given
above. Factory made conduit bends and accessories shall be used. Metal Conduit shall be
jointed using Solvent Cement as recommended by the conduit supplier. The conduit in
ceiling slab shall be straight as far as possible. Before the conduits are laid in the
ceiling, the position of the outlet points, controls, junction boxes shall be set out clearly
as per the dimensions and to minimize off-sets and bends. Conduits in ceiling shall
be bonded to the reinforcement rods with G.I. bonding wire to secure them in position.
Metal outlet / pull boxes shall be provided as required. The conduit in ceiling slab shall
be laid above the first layer of reinforcement rods to avoid cracks in the ceiling surface.
Conduits Concealed in the wall shall be secured rigidly by means of steel hooks /

staples at Min, 750 mm intervals. Before conduit is concealed in the walls, all chases,
grooves shall be neatly made to proper required dimensions to accommodate
number of conduits. The chased portion of the walls for electrical works shall be
plastered by electrical contractor to bring it to the finished wall surface. The outlet
boxes shall be control switches, inspection and draw boxes shall be fixed as and when
conduits are being fixed. The recessing of conduits in walls shall be so arranged as to
allow at least 12mm plaster cover on the same. All grooves, chases etc., shall be refilled
with cement mortar and finished up to wall surface before plastering of walls is taken up
by the general civil contractor. Where conduits pass through expansion joints in the
building, adequate expansion fitting or other approved devices shall be used to take care
of the relative movement. Whenever the conduits terminate into Control Boxes,
distribution boards etc., conduits shall be rigidly connected to the boxes/boards with
check nuts on either side of the entry to ensure electrical continuity. After conduits,
junction boxes shall be properly plugged with PVC stoppers or any other suitable
materials, so that water, mortar, vermin or any other foreign materials do not enter into
the conduit system. All conduit ends terminating into an outlet shall be provided with
bushes of PVC or rubber after the conduit ends are properly filed to remove burs and
sharp edges. Necessary G.I pull wires shall be inserted into the conduit for drawing
wires and Insulated Earth wires shall be run in each conduit originating from the panel
board up to the Light, Socket and Switch boxes.

A4.2. OPEN/SURFACE CONDUIT SYSTEM:

A4.2.1 Wherever specifically called for, surface conduit system shall be adopted. Conduits
shall be run in square and by metrical lines. Before the conduits are installed, the exact
route shall be marked at the site and approval of the Consultant shall be obtained.
Conduits shall be fixed by heavy guage G.I. saddles, secured by suitable rawl plugs, at
an interval of not more than 1 metre.

Wherever, couplers, bends, or similar fittings are used saddles shall be provided at
either side at a distance of 300mm from the centre of such fittings. Conduits shall be
joined by means of screwed couplers and screwed accessories only. In long
distance straight runs of conduit, inspection type couplers/junction boxes shall be
provided. Threading shall be long enough to accommodate pipe to the full threaded
portion of the couplers and accessories. Cut ends of conduits shall have no sharp
edges nor any burrs left to avoid damage to insulations of wires.

A4.2.2 Bends in conduit runs shall be done by using pipe bending machine. Sharp bends
shall be accomplished by introducing solid bends inspection bends or cast iron/
M.S. inspection boxes Radius of solid bends shall not be less than 75mm. Not more
than 90 degree bend shall be used in a conduit run from outlet to outlet.

A4.2.3 All conduit opening shall be properly plugged with PVC stoppers/bushes.
Conduits shall be adequately protected against rust by applying two coats of
approved synthe-tic enamel paint after the installation is completed.

A 4.2.4 Wherever conduits terminate into control boxes, outlet boxes, distribution boards
etc., it shalll be rigidly connected to the box with checknuts on either side of the
entry.

A4.2.5 The entire conduit system shall be bonded to the earth.

A 5.0 WIRING :

A5.1 CONDUCTORS : All PVC insulated Copper conductor wires shall conform in all
respects to standards as listed under sub-head `Regulations and Standards' and shall
be 660V Grade.

A5.2 All final branch circuits for lighting and appliances, shall be single conductor cables
run inside conduits.

Branch circuit conductor sizes shall be as shown in the load analysis of drawing and
conforming to the requirements of the I.E. Regulations & I.S. Code.

Home runs indicated on the drawings for the final branch circuits shall be kept in a
separate conduit upto the panel board via switches wherever called for. No other
wiring shall be bunched in the same conduit unless the other circuit main of same
phase run in the conduit.

For each lot of wires the supply Contractor shall supply a certificate issued by the
manufacturer stating its origin, date of manufacture, constitution and standards to
which complies and the test certificates. Looping system of wiring shall be used.

Wires shall not be jointed inside the conduit or pull boxes. Where joints are
unavoidable shall be made through approved mechanical connectors with prior
permission of Architect/Consultant.

Control switches shall be connected in the phase conductors only and shall be `ON'
when knob is down. Switches shall be fixed in galvanised steel boxes. Chromium
plated screws shall be used.

Power wiring shall be distinctly separate from lighting wiring.

Each circuit phase wire from the distribution boards should be followed with a
separate neutral wire of the same size as the circuit wire.

A 5.3 BUNCHING OF WIRES :


Wires carrying current shall be bunched so that the out going and the return wires are
drawn into the same conduit. Wires originating from two different phases shall not
run in the same conduit.

A 5.4 DRAWING CONDUCTORS :

The drawing and jointing of PVC insulated copper/aluminium conductor wire and
cables shall be executed with due regard to the following precautions. While drawing
wires through conduits, care shall be taken to avoid scratches and kinks which
causes breakage of conductors. There shall be no sharp bends.

Insulation shall be shaved off like sharpening of a pencil and it shall not be removed
by cutting it square.

PVC Insulated copper conductor wire ends shall be soldered (atleast 20mm length).

Strands of wires shall not be cut for connecting terminals. The terminals shall have
sufficient cross sectional area to take all strands and shall be soldered. Connecting
brass screws shall have flat ends. All looped joints shall be soldered and onnected
through block/connectors. The pressure applied to tighten terminal screws shall be
just adequate, neither too much not too less. Conductors having nominal cross
sectional areas exceeding 10 sq.mm shall always be provided with cable sockets. At all
bolted terminals, brass flat washer of large area and approved steel spring shall be used.
Brass nuts and bolts shall be used for all connections. Only certified wiremen and cable
jointers shall be employed to do jointing work. All wires and cables shall bear the
manufacturer's label and shall be brought to site in original packing. For all internal
wiring, PVC insulated wires of 650/1100 volts grade shal be used. The sub-circuit
wiring for point shall be carried out in loop system and no joints shall be allowed in
the length of the conductors. If the use of joints connections are unavoidable due to any
specific reason, prior permission, in writing, shall be obtained from the Architect.
No wire shall be drawn into any conduit, until all work of any nature, that may cause
injury to wire, is completed. Care shall be taken in pulling the wires so that no damage
occurs to the insulation of wire. Before the wire are drawn into the conduits, the
conduits shall be thoroughly cleaned of moisture, dust, dirt or any other obstruction by
forcing compressed air through the conduits. The minimum size of PVC insulated
conductor wires for all sub-circuit wiring for light points shall be 2.5 sq.mm

A5.6 JOINTS :

All joints shall be made at main switches, distribution boards, socket outlets, lighting
outlets and switch boxes only. No joints shall be made in conduits and in junction
boxes.

Conductors shall be continuous from outlet to inlet.

A5.7 MAINS AND SUB-MAINS :


Mains and sub-mains cable or wires where called for shall be of the rated capacity and
approved make. Every ;main and sub-main wire shall be drawn into an independent
adequate size conduit. An independent earth wire of the proper rating shall be provided
for every single phase submain. For every 3-phase submain, 2 Nos. earth wires of
proper rating shall be provided along with the submain. The earth wires shall be fixed
to conduits by means of clips at not more than 1000mm distance. Where mains and

sub-main cables are connected to switchgear, sufficient extra lengths of cable shall be
provided to facilitate easy connections and maintenance.

A5.8 LOAD BALANCING :


Balancing of circuits in three phase installation shall be planned.
A6.0 SPECIFICATION FOR L.T. PANELS & DISTRIBUTION BOARDS

A.6.1 Combined L.T. Distribution box and Automatic change over Switch :

A6.1.1 GENERAL :

The Combined L.T. Distribution box and Automatic change over Switch Panel shall be
of 2mm thick sheet steel clad cubicle pattern, free standing floor mounting type, totally
enclosed with IP 54 degree of protection dead front compartmentalized multitier
formation design. The panels shall be of extensible type with provisions for bus bar
extensions also. Panels shall conform to the I.S. 8623 – 1980 and rated for S.C.
Capacity of 50 KA for 1 sec.

A6.1.2 CONSTRUCTION :

Switch board panels of free standing type shall have a single/double bus bar chamber as
specified elsewhere in the specification. The space between the bus chamber and cable
compartment shall be suitably compartmentalized to accommodate switch gears of
various ratings and shall be identical to facilitate a modular construction. The cubicle
shall be made out of 50 x 50 x 6mm thick angle iron frame work and 2mm thick M.S.
Cold rolled sheet steel shall be paneled to angle iron frame work with zinc plated
fasteners. The 40 x 40 x 6mm thick iron frame work shall be provided inside the panel
to mount the outgoing feeders. A minimum space of 300mm shall be provided at the
bottom/top of the board for termination of the cable. The cable alley shall have
insulated supports for fixing the cable cores. Flush type hinged construction doors
shall be provided for bus bar chambers, cable, alleys, feeder compartments. The door
shall be with 'U' shape edge to provide square type compressed rubber gasket and
lockable. The 16G M.S. partitions/barriers shall be provided between adjacent top and
bottom compartments. All the live parts shall be properly shrouded with bakelite
barriers. All the equipment shall be accessible from the front. Arrangement and
marking of bus bars, main connections and wiring shall be in accordance with relevent
I.5 supercided IS.

A6.1.3 BUS BARS :

The bus bars shall be suitable for 3 phase, 4 wire, 415 volts, 50 Hz system. The bus
bars shall be made of high conductivity aluminum alloy strip conforming to IS
specifications. The bus bars shall have uniform cross section throughout. The bus
bars shall be capable of carrying the rated current at 415 volts continuously. The
bus bars shall be designed to withstand a temperature rise of 45 deg. C above the
ambient, of 40 deg C.

A current density of 1.0 Amps/Sq. mm shall not be exceeded for aluminum bus
bars. The size of the bus bars shall be designed on the basis of a short circuit rating of
50 KA for one (1) Sec.

Bus bars shall be supported on suitable insulating, anti tracking non-hygroscopic


materials such as permali or hylam at sufficiently close intervals to prevent bus bar sag.
Bus bars including their supports shall be able to withstand thermal and dynamic stress
due to the system Short Circuits. All the bus bars shall be insulated with PVC
sleeving or heat resistant paint, suitably colour coded.

All connections between bus bars and switch gears shall be through solid
copper/Aluminimum strips of proper size to carry full rated current and insulated
with insulating tapes.

All distribution boards shall be provided with switch fuse units (with HRC fuse
links) of appropriate capacity or Air Circuit Breakers (ACB'S)/or MCCB's as called
for in the drawings. All wiring for final distribution boards shall be concealed
behind 5 mm thick bakelite sheet. All Distribution Boards shall be completely factory
wired, ready for connection. All the terminals shall be distinctly marked with a small
description of the service installed.

A6.1.4 SWITCH FUSE UNITS/CHANGE OVER SWITCHES :

The Change over switch/switch fuse units shall be 4 pole double break type suitable
for load duty quick make and break action. All switch fuse units/change over
switch shall be panel mounting type. The switches shall be interlocked so that any
attempt to operate the switch or open the cubicle door when the switch/MCCB is in
`ON' position, should result in the automatic tripping of MCCB. All contacts shall be
silver plated and all live parts shall be shrouded. High rupturing capacity (HRC) fuse
links shall be provided with switch fuse units and shall have rupturing capacity of
not less than 31 MVA at 415 volts. All switch fuse units shall be panel mounting
type & change over switch shall be provided with visible indicators to show that they
are in ON or OFF position.

A6.1.7 MCCB's :

All MCCBs shall be quick make, quick break, independent manual type with trip
free feature ON,OFF, TRIP Indications shall be provided. Facility to test the
MCCB mechanically shall also be provided. MCCB shall have the following
accessories.

- auxiliary switch
- alarm switch
- terminal shrouds
- rotary front operation kit. (Wherever specified)
- remote trip facility. (Wherever specified)

MCCB shall have releases as specified in the bill of quantities O/L, S.C, E/F and
U/V releases.

A6.1.8. PROTECTIVE DEVICES:

i. C.T. operated overload and short circuit tripping mechanism with earth fault
protection CBCT shall be provided for all circuit breakers.
The direct acting releases shall be fitted with test strip for periodical checking of trip
operations.
Provisions shall be made for fitting micros witches on over current releases, shunt
and under voltage release for external/remote indication of tripping on faults.

ii. There shall be not less than 6 N/O and 6 N/C auxiliary contacts rated 5 amp on each
breaker. The auxiliary contacts blocks shall be so located as to be accessible form the
front. The auxiliary contacts in the trip circuits shall close before the main contacts
have closed. All other contacts shall close simultaneously with the main contacts.
The auxiliary contacts in the trip circuits shall open after the main contacts open.

iii. All current carrying parts shall be silver plated and suitable arcing contacts with
proper arc chutes shall be provided to protect the main contacts. The heat
generated in the contacts due to tripping under fault conditions shall be very
nominal.

iv. METERS:

All meters shall be housed in a separate compartment and accessible from front
only. Lockable doors shall be provided for the metering compartment. The main
distribution boards shall be provided with digital type panel comprising of one
number (0-500V) 96mm square voltmeter with 3 way and `OFF' selector switch,
CT operated ammeter with 3 way and neutral selector switch microprocessor based
energy meter similar to enercon type appropriate range and scale. Wiring for meters
shall be color coded and labeled with approved plastic beads for identification.

v. CURRENT TRANSFORMERS :

Current Transformers shall be provided for main Distribution Boards. All phases shall
be provided with current transformers of accuracy class 1 and suitable VA burden for
operation of associated metering.

vi. INDICATING PANEL :

All meters and indicating instruments shall be in accordance with relevant Indian
Standards. The meters shall be flush mounted and dropout type. Indicating
lamps shall be neon type and of low burden, and shall be backed up with 5 amps
fuses and toggle switch.

vii. EARTHING :
25 mm x 3 mm copper tapes shall be provided for earthling of main distribution boards
and connected to the frame work of the distribution boards. Provision shall be

made for connection from this earth bar to the main earthing bar on both sides of
distribution board.

viii. PAINTING : All sheet steel work shall undergo a process of degreasing, in acid,
cold rinsing, hot dipped phosphatizing, passivating and then sprayed with a high
corrosive resistant primer, and then baked in an oven. The finishing treatment
shall be by application of two coats of synthetic enamel paint of grey (shade 631 as
per BIS:5).

ix. LABELS : Engraved PVC labels shall be provided on all incoming and outgoing feeder
switches. Circuit diagram showing the arrangements of the circuit inside the
distribution board shall be pasted on inside of the panel door and covered with
transparent plastic sheet.

x. TESTING : All the distribution boards shall be subject to tests specified in relevant
standards and test certificate shall be furnished.

xi. CONTROL WIRING: The Control wiring shall be minimum 1.5 mm2 inside the
panel shall be terminated using terminal box.

xii. POWER WIRING : In wiring a distribution board it shall be ensured that total load
of various distribution boards and consuming devices is divided evenly between the
phases and number of ways.

A6.2 . DRAWINGS : G.A. drg of panel with BOQ and SLD shall be submitted and got
approved before the board is fabricated. All necessary drawing (3 sets) including
wiring diagram, instructional manual, testing, commissioning and test certificate are to
be submitted before dispatch of the panel to site.

A6.3 INSPECTION : At all reasonable times during production and prior to dispatch, the
supplier shall provide and secure for purchasers representative every reasonably
access and facility at their plant for inspection.

A7. HT & LT CABLES & CABLE INSTALLATION :

A7.1 GENERAL SCOPE :

Supply, installation, storing, laying, fixing, jointing / termination, testing and


commissioning of HT/LT XLPF/PVC insulated PVC Sheathed
Armoured/Aluminium/Copper Conductor Cables laid in built up trenches, directly
buried underground, on cable trays, in pipes, clamped directly to wall or Structures
etc.

a) HT cable shall be XLPE insulated as per IS : 7098

b) Type :

Medium voltage cables shall be aluminum conductor, PVC insulated, PVC sheathed
and steel wire armoured or steel tape armoured construction. The conductors of
cable shall be stranded, Stranded conductors shall be used for cables of 10 sq.mm
size and above. The cables shall conform to IS:1554 part-I in all respects.

b) Rating :

The cables shall be rated for a voltage of 650/1100 Volts.

c) Core Identifications :

Cores shall be provided with the following colour scheme of PVC insulation :

1. Core : Red/Black/Yellow/Blue
2. Core : Red and Black
3. Core : Red, Yellow & Blue
4. 3 1/2/4 Core : Red, Yellow, Blue & Black

A7.2 INSPECTION :

All cables shall be inspected upon receipt at site and checked for any damage during
transit.

A7.3. JOINTS IN CABLES :

The contractor shall take care to see that all the cables received at site are
apportioned to various locations in such a manner as to ensure maximum utilization
and avoidance of cable jointing. This apportioning shall be got approved by the
Architect before the cables are cut to lengths.

Where joints are unavoidable, the location of such joints shall be got approved.

A7.4 JOINTING BOXES FOR CABLES :

Cable joint boxes shall be of appropriate size, suitable for PVC insulated
armoured cables of particular voltage rating.

A7.5 JOINTING CABLES :

All cable joints shall be made in suitable, approved cable joint boxes, Jointing of
cables in the joint boxes and the filling in of compound shall be done in
accordance with manufacturer's instructions and in an approved manner. All straight
T-joints shall be done in epoxy mould boxes with epoxy resin.

All cables shall be jointed colour to colour and tested for continuity and insulation
resistance before jointing comments. The seals of cables must not be removed until
preparations for jointing are completed. Joints shall be finished on the same day as
commenced and sufficient protection for the weather shall be arranged. Joints shall
be made by means of suitable solder for conductors, the conductors being firmly
butted into the connections or thimbles or ferrules and the whole soldered with proper
solder and soldering flux. The conductors shall be efficiently insulated with high
voltage insulating tape and by using of spreaders of approved size and pattern. The
joints shall be completely topped up with epoxy compound so as to ensure that the box
is properly filled.

A7.6 CABLE TERMINATIONS :

Cable termination shall be done in cable terminal box using cable glands and the
cable ends sealed with sealing compound.

A7.7 BONDING OF CABLES :


Where a cable enters any piece of apparatus, it shall be connected to the casing by
means of approved type of armored clamp and gland. The clamps must grip the
armoring firmly to the gland or casing, so that no undue stress is passed on to the
cable conductors due to vibrations. The glands shall be fixed to the lead sheath by
means of either a 'Plumbing joint' or a cone of approved material, capable of
being compressed into lead sheath. the gland or cone shall be capable of effecting a
good electrical bond between both the armoring of the cable, and the casing.

a) Storing:
All the cables shall be supplied in drums. On receipt of cables at site, the cables shall
be inspected and stored in drums with flanges of the cable drum in vertical position.

b) Laying of Cables:
Cables shall be laid as per the specifications given below:

i. Cables in Outdoor Trenches :


Cables shall be laid in outdoor trenches wherever called for. The depth of the
trenches shall not be less than 750mm, below the final ground level. The width of
the trenches shall not be less than 450mm. However, where more than one cable is
laid an axial distance of not less than 150mm shall be allowed between the
cables. The trenches shall be cut square with vertical side walls and with uniform
depth. Suitable shoring and propping may be done to avoid caving in of trench
walls. The floor of the trench shall be rammed level. The cables shall be laid in
trenches over rollers placed inside the trench.

The cable drums shall be laid unrolled in the direction of the arrow for unrolling.
Wherever cables are bent, the minimum bending radius shall not be less than 12
times the diameter of the cable. After the cable is laid and straightened, it shall be
covered with 80mm thick layer of sand. Cable shall then be lifted and placed over
the sand cushion. Over this, a course of cable protection tiles or burnt brick shall be

provided to cover the cables by 50mm on either side. Trench shall be backfilled
with earth and consolidated. Cables shall be laid in hume pipes/stoneware pipes at
all road crossings and in GI pipe at the wall entries. Cable route markers to be
provided as per standards.

ii. LAYING OF CABLE : INDOOR

The cables shall be laid in-door above false ceiling wherever specified shall be laid
on GI cable trays supported on pained M.S. angle supports. Suitable clamping with
straps and saddles shall be used for keeping in the cables in position. Spacing
between the cables shall not be less than the overall diameter of the cable.

The cables run on wall surface from panel board up to cable trays shall run in
galvanized steel pipes of adequate size.

The Cables run inside concrete trenches shall be supported on cable trays and
shall be neatly arranged and clamped.

The cable entries through pipes from outside to inside the building shall run in G.I.
pipes and shall be sealed water tight with approved type of sealant to avoid water
entering the building.

c) TESTING OF CABLES: Tests shall be conducted for insulation between


phases and between phase and earth for each length of cables, before and after
jointing. As such all phase cables may be checked for before being laid for above
tests. On completion of cable laying work, the following tests shall be conducted in
the presence of the Consultant/ Owner's representatives.

a. Insulation Resistance Test (sectional and overall)


b. Continuity resistance test.
c. Sheathing continuity test.
d. Earth test.

All tests shall be carried out in accordance with relevant standard code of
practice and Electricity Rules. The Contractor shall provide necessary
instruments, equipment and labor for conducting the above tests and shall bear all
expenses in connection with such tests. All tests shall be carried out in the presence
of the Engineer/Architect.

d. The following standard and rules shall be applicable.

IS 7038 XLPE Cables

IS 1554 - 88 PVC insulated electric cable part I for working voltage up to and
including 1100V

IS 8130 - 34 Conductors for insulated electric cables and flexible cords.

IS 3961 - 67 Recommended current rating for cables

IS 5831 - 84 PVC insulating and Sheath of electric cables.

5. EXCAVATIONS AND BACK FILL : All excavations and back fill including
timbering shorting and pumping required for the installation of the cables shall be
carried out by the Contractor in accordance with the drawings and requirements laid
down elsewhere. Trenches shall be dug true to line and grades. Back fill for
trenches shall be filled in layers not exceeding 150mm. Each layer shall be
properly rammed and consolidated before laying the next layer. The Contractor shall
restore all surfaces, roadways, side walks curbs, walls or other works cut by
excavation to their original condition, satisfactory to the Architect.

A8. EARTHING

A8.1 a) EARTHING: All the non-current carrying metal parts of electrical installation
shall be earthed as per IS: 3043. All equipment, metal conduits, rising main cable
armour, HT/LT switch gear, distribution boards, meters, all other metal parts forming
part of the work shall be bonded together and connected by two separate and
distinct conductors to earth electrodes. Earthing shall be in conformity with the
provisions of Rules 32, 61, 62, 67 and 68 of IER 1956.

b) G.I. Pipe Earth Station :


Electrodes shall be made of G.I. pipe of Internal Diameter of 100mm dia or 40 dia
as per BOQ. The pipe electrode shall be as far as practicable embedded below
permanent moisture level. The length of the pipe electrode shall not be less than 2.5
Mtr. Except where rock is encountered pipes shall be driven to a depth of at least 2.5
mtr where rock is encountered at a depth of less than mtr the electrode may be
buried inclined to the vertical and the inclinations not more than 30 deg C from the
vertical. The pipe electrode shall be made of one piece. Earth leads to the electrode
shall be laid in a heavy duty GI pipe and connected to the pipe electrode with brass
bolts, nuts and washers. GI pipe shall be terminated in a wire meshed chamber of
450mm x 450mm dimensions. The chamber shall be provided with C.I. frame and CI
inspection cover. The earth station shall also be provided with a suitable
permanent identifications label tag. The earth electrode shall conform to IS:3043 latest
edition. The soil around the earthing electrode shall be treated to reduce the
resistivity of the soil by filling the complete depth of electrode with alternative layers
of charcoal and salt or chemical earthing to maintain good moisture.

c) EARTHING CONDUCTORS :
All earthing conductors shall be of high conductivity copper/galvanized iron strips and
shall be protected against mechanical damage and corrosion. The connection of
earth electrodes shall be strong secure and sound and shall be easily accessible. The
earth conductors shall be rigidly fixed to the walls, cable trenches, cable tunnel
conduits and cables by using suitable clamps.

Main earth bus shall be taken from the main medium voltage panel to the earth
electrodes. The number of electrodes required shall be arrived at taking into
consideration the anticipated fault on the medium voltage net work. Earthing
conductors for equipment shall be run from the exposed metal surface of the equipment

& connected to a suitable point on the sub main or main earthing bus. All switch
boards, distribution boards and isolators disconnect switches shall be connected to
the earth bus. Earthing conductors shall be terminated at the equipment using
suitable lugs, bolts, washers and nuts.

All conduits cable armoring etc., shall be connected to the earth all along their run by
earthing conductors of suitable cross sectional area. The electrical resistance of
earthing conductors shall be low enough to permit the passage of fault current
necessary to operate a fuse/protective device a circuit breaker and shall not exceed 2
ohms.

Precautions :
Earthing system shall be mechanically robust and the joints shall be capable of
retaining low resistance even after subjections to fault currents.

Joints shall be tinned, soldered and/or double riveted. All the joints shall be
mechanically and electrically continuous and effective. Joints shall be protected
against corrosion.

Testing :
On the completion of the entire installation, the following tests shall be conducted:

i) Earth resistance of electrodes


ii) Impedance of earth continuity conductors as per BIS .
iii) Effectiveness of earthing as per BIS.

All meters, instruments and labour required for the tests shall be provided by the
contractor. The tests results shall be submitted in the prescribed tabulated form in
triplicate to the consultants for approval.

3.0 PAYMENT
Payment shall be made on number basis as per relevant item of schedule 1 of the
tender and per payment schedules.
