A clean gown is required to protect the clients clothing and skin from colour.
A washable or disposal cape is used to save colour going on the client’s gown. This is
important in case the colour seeps through the gown coming into contact with the clients
clothing or skin.
Towels are also used for extra protection to client’s skin and clothing and save gowns and
capes.
Gowns are used to protect clients clothing and skin from water, product and heat.

Regulations and responsibilities with regards
If any equipment is faulty or seems unsafe for use it must be put away in safe
storage and reported.
Any heated equipment should be left to cool before being put away after use and
visually checked before use.
Ensure all equipment is used only for its purpose and nothing else.
Everyone should know how to properly and safely use equipment before using.

Positioning yourself and clients correctly
The importance of position of yourself is very important as a back injury can be caused. This is all
down to posture and you manoeuvre yourself around the client when carrying out a service. If you
have to bend down then you should be able to put your chair higher if not bend from your knees. If
you need to reach the sides of your client walk round to the side of them don’t twist round to them.
The importance of how your client is positioned is important as they could be caused discomfort and
the service may not be done to expectations e.g. if the client is slouched in the chair. Always ensure
clients are seated up straight with their back against the back of the chair.

Importance of a clean tidy work area
It is important to ensure every work area in the salon is clean to avoid the risk of cross
infection/infestation. The importance of keeping work areas tidy is so you know where
everything is and are not having to waste time looking for what you need, organisation is
key. Things lying around untidy/unorganised can also cause a risk of injury to anyone in the
salon as it can be a hazard without even knowing it. If the salon is not clean and tidy this
could be bad for business as clients wouldn’t enjoy their experience somewhere that is
messy and dirty.

Reasons for economical use of products
If products are not used economically they may be misused and not work the way they are meant to.
If too much is used a lot can be wasted and is cost affected on salons profits. Interferes on the stock
rotation. To save salon money if storage containers are recycled e.g. Shampoo bottles.
