How to create a J-Function crossplot in Petrel

This content describes how to create a crossplot of J-Function vs. Sw in Petrel 2010.1.

You can create such a cross-plot, by using the ‘3D simulation result calculator’ and following below
steps.

1. Make sure you already have Pc data as simulation result by displaying Pc vs. Sw crossplot.

2. Right-click at on any 3D result and select Calculator. Enter J-function formula and select property as
shown below.

LHS = (a/(26*4.61678 ))*POW( (c/d), 0.5)

J-Function Formula:

J = [Pc / (surfacetension*unitconstant)] * ((perm/poro)^0.5)

With FIELD unit system:

surfacetension = 26 // dynes/cm
unitconstant = 4.61678 // pressure in psi and permeability in mD porosity in fraction
For LHS Variable, select ‘New Property’ and enter the name as ‘J-Function’.

For A variable, select Results Dynamic Pcow.

For B Variable, select Results Static Permeability.
For C Variable, select Results Static Porosity.
3. Then, click Run button. The new calculated property can be found in the Results pane tree, under
Results > Simulation grid results > Calculated results. Now, you can display the J-Function vs. Sw
crossplot as below.
