DESIGN OBJECTIVE
Transport node is interaction of several components that serve travel, neighborhood, cargo and
traveler movement and an arrangement of transport procedures. The main objective is to create a
transit node in central Madhavaram that will enhance the urban public spaces.
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
Design focuses on creating linkage between land use and transit that results in an efficient
pattern of development that supports the transit system and makes significant progress in
reducing sprawl, traffic congestion, and air pollution.
Multi-use, central place to create flexible spaces that encourage an array of formal and
informal activities to enhance value of Madhavaram - a site of public interaction or an
intersection of various urban activities, such as pedestrian and vehicular movements,
retail activities, vending, sidewalk marketing, political demonstrations, outdoor
performances, and public gathering.
SITE
Considering the development proposal of Northern Chennai, a node point at Madhavaram has
been identified for design project. Site is located abutting Madhavaran circle located at
intersection of 200ft ring Road and Chennai Kolkata highway (Map attached).
Keeping in mind the Coming up projects including Metro station - Chennai Metro Phase II and
recently developed Madhavaran Muffasil Bus Terminus (MMBT) an urban complex to
complement the transit facilities as well as neighborhood demand, is proposed for Architectural
design exercise.
