MAED 204 REFLECTION IN CHAPTER 6
(Approaches to Management)

Management in all business and organizational activities is the act of getting

people together to accomplish desired goals and objectives using available resources
efficiently and effectively. People who work for managers must realize that it is their job
to make their managers value them. This approach is need so that what may be the
problem that the group is facing, a leader must have a way in solving it. A leader having
no management is also known as inefficient leader or not effective leader. When we say
approaches to management, the following are said to be considered. First is Behavioral
Approach, it is the way in which managers connect to subordinates or how managers
should behave to motivate and inspire employees and encourage them to perform well
and be committed in achieving the goals of the organization. The leader recognized
employees need for recognition and social acceptance. The principal is expert when it
comes to knowing his/her subordinate’s capacity and capabilities. That is why we
teachers, we have to attend seminars and trainings because of this behavioral
approach. It emphasizes on training and developing the staff. This approach also uses
innovative reward and incentive techniques in order for the employees to work
effectively and efficiently. Second is Classical Approach, this approach focuses more
only the belief of employee about economically and physical needs than the social
needs and need for job satisfaction. This approach is ignored by behavioral approach,
because behavioral approach is the key in shaping human behavior and the
management style so that the goal of the organization will be achieve. And the last one
is the Contemporary Approach, the contemporary approaches to management include:
sociotechnical theory, quantitative management, organizational behavior, and systems
theory. And the last of the approaches is systems theory defined as a theory stating that
an organization is a managed system that changes inputs into outputs. These three
approaches must be recognized so that the leader must know what is the best approach
in dealing each of his/her employees.
