Arpit Gupta Statement of Purpose
“ Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who
keeps learning stays young .” - Henry Ford . Since I can remember, these lines
have been my mantra for life. They were introduced to me by my father who
always taught me to be a patient learner and develop a thirst for knowledge.
Following his footsteps, my fascination with technology started when I was a kid. I
vividly remember the adrenaline rush I experienced when I dismantled my
father’s computer just because I was curious to see how it operated. Although I
was too young to understand the science behind it, I was able to appreciate the
magnificence of the invention. But as you can probably guess, at the age of 9, I
failed to assemble it again.
As I grew up, my fascination transfigured into a passion and I decided to pursue

my studies in the field of Science during High School. Engulfed by the innovations
and inventions at that time and considering my aptitude for Computers and
Mathematics, I chose to steer my studies in that direction by doing my under-
graduation in the field of Technology . During my time at Maharaja Agrasen
Institute of Technology, I realized that I have a strong predilection for Applied
Computer Science , Operating Systems, Algorithms and Architecture which
is something that has helped me understand how the concepts of computers are
applied to practical systems in day-to-day life.
In retrospection, I realize that it was my first-year summer training in the field of ‘

Building Management Systems’ and ‘ Java Programming ’ that fueled my
passion in this field. This rigorous training helped me build a strong foundation in
the core concepts and gain in-depth knowledge of programming languages as
well as Enterprise level Application Development experience.
Furthermore, to strengthen up my recently gained knowledge, I took up an

opportunity to work as a Intern at Streetingo, a budding startup company that
gave me a boost on my technical as well as cooperative skills. Developing
applications from architectural level and deploying them on Play Store, while
being under pressure of looming deadlines taught me some key values to work in
such an environment. By the end of my internship, I was filled with a vehement
feeling that integrating technology solutions with real-life problems can do
marvels and a master’s program in the same seemed like a perfect fit for my skill-
set and ambitions.
My passion for Technologies and Solution Designing was further stoked by the
undergraduate curriculum. Subjects like Algorithm and Database , Software
Engineering , Artificial Intelligence , Data Structures,Business Intelligence
and Data Mining, and Web Technologies helped me develop a diverse skill set
that fascinated me to think of ways to link them together. This is where my
interest in Solution Designing and Management broadened and I decided to
expand my knowledge in this area. While creating architectural flow and
wireframes for intelligent modules in ongoing projects, the ability of a system to
respond to situations without being explicitly programmed for it intrigued me to an
extent that I could envision using these concepts in developing intelligent
applications solving real-world problems over multiple platforms.
After the successful completion of this internship, I started gaining more clarity on
my interests and aspirations, and therefore, I decided to expand my skill set to
support my ambition. I realized that Information Technology is going to play an
integral role in my area of interest, and therefore to get a comprehensive
understanding of my major during my under-graduation, I took Software
Computing and IoT Applications as the course for my major project. I
developed an inclination towards understanding the basic science and math
behind the subjects of information technology, which led me to develop a Neural
Network & Deep Learning-based Gesture Recognition Model as my Major
Project. This involved a comparative study and implementation of Gesture
Recognition algorithms and owing to my inquisitiveness, I successfully completed
this research project under the guidance of my college Professor/Mentor Anupam
Kumar and wrote a Research Paper in the field.
Alongside my curriculum and coursework, I regularly involve myself with things

that help me become a better version of myself. I have been working with PAWS,
an NGO that helps stray dogs find food, shelter, and safety by driving initiatives
and welfare carnivals to spread awareness and minimize animal cruelty which is
a serious issue in India. I also got an opportunity to volunteer at Atlantis Research
and organize a 3-day workshop with Ms.Heather Paul, NASA Astronaut educating
young minds about her space exploration. Lastly, my lifetime love for badminton
allowed me to represent my High School at the state level championships. I have
been playing badminton for almost 10 years and it has taught me the importance
of teamwork, leadership and critical thinking which has helped me in my
academics all along.
Although my under-graduation was a tremendous learning experience for me but,

as Albert Einstein once said, “ The more I learn, the more I realize how much I
don't know” . I started working fulltime as a Business Analyst at a concrete
manufacturing company. During my Initial Learning Process, I learned about
Product Management and Development along with understanding client contexts
and facilitating brainstorming sessions to support and launch new products.
I do feel that in spite of my rich experiences, coursework, and projects, there are
still gaps in my education and as a learner, I strongly believe that a master’s
program at your esteemed university will make a huge impact in my journey of
education and help me fill those gaps. Laboratories equipped with cutting edge
technology, enormous real-world project development opportunities and an
overall conducive environment are primarily the reasons that have influenced me
to apply. I would be honored to be associated with your university and get a
chance to learn from the extremely talented and revered faculty of CMU .
I believe the Master's program and its experience would enable me to carve a
niche for myself in the industry along with deepening my expertise, broadening
my perspectives and help achieve my ultimate goal of becoming an Inventor and
an Entrepreneur in India who specializes in developing Intelligent and
Autonomous Systems. I am highly motivated to achieve my dream of providing
significant breakthroughs in the field of Technology and to make this world a
better place to live in by employing my diverse skill-set to unravel the problems
that hinder the evolution of business and technology.
Finally, I take this opportunity to thank you for enabling me to express myself and
I look forward to my admission into the Master's Program of your esteemed
university as I believe that my education, skillset, the ability to always maintain a
positive outlook towards life makes me a strong candidate.
