General learning outcome To describe the basic principles of thermodynamics related to
energy, heat, work and phase changes processes
Specific learning  Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts such as conservation of
outcomes energy, work and Heat interaction, heat transfer and first law of
thermodynamics to open and closed systems.
By the end of the session,  Explain the basic concept of thermodynamics such as system,
the students will be able properties, state, equilibrium, process and cycle
to:  Explain the concept of pure substances and phase change processes
and illustrate property diagrams of pure substances
 Utilize thermodynamics property tables to solve problems
 Describe ideal gases and real gases and apply ideal gas equation of
state in the solution of problems
