Please describe your most rewarding experience in university/college and why?

 ※

The proudest experience in my university life is the moment I officially set my foot in Japan, on
19th February 2019, through ASEAN-JAPAN Students Conference sponsored by the
Government of Japan. There is a long story behind this achievement that I would like to share
with you!

4 years ago, there was a boy from a poor village deciding to go to the biggest city in Vietnam,
Ho Chi Minh city, to pursue higher education with bad English capability, no skills and no
experience in any activities. All of his luggage was huge determination and a strong belief that
he could make every effort to improve himself, find out his passion, reach the high achievements
and go global.

He started the journey to prove his belief would be correct on the very first days in the city by a
variety of activities. Besides learning in university, he proactively participated in school clubs to
improve his English and soft skills, organized many activities and competitions and was engaged
in social activities to help street children in the city with foreign friends. Furthermore, he also
spent time taking a part-time job as a sales collaborator and followed his brothers and sisters to
introduce the company’s services to customers on the streets. Even though he made many
mistakes and failed many times during the first year, he stood up, noted lessons learned and kept
moving forward. Even though he was busy most of the time and fully exhausted when back
home at late nights, he felt super satisfied because he knew that he had such a day without
regrets, and with much experience to be exposed and knowledge to learn.

That was his life during 3 successive years, learning, joining extra-curriculum activities and
taking internships. And finally, he could say to the world that all of the hard work has paid off
through a fully-funded trip to Japan to join one of the most prestigious student conferences in the
world, which required successful candidates with good academic background, impactful extra-
curriculum activity experience, and leadership skills. This amazing trip has brought to him so
many other opportunities to discover this world. Many things have changed but his belief stays
constant. And it does not matter where you start, but how fast you grow! He is Tan!

】Why do you want to be part of the GMP program and what do you expect to learn from thi

My personal values are kindness and impact. In my life, I always try to treat people and the
environment with my kindness. I am ready to listen to their story, give them a warm hug and
then share with them so that they can feel better. In my work, my objective is to bring more
positive impacts to customers, trying to understand them and amazing them every day by
providing them with the true values they are seeking for. Together, more and more impacts are
created and spread to every corner of the world, with kindness inside each person, to change this
world to be a more worth-living place. And I do believe that my values match with the corporate
philosophy that Fast Retailing is pursing. Therefore, it is the first reason to encourage me to
apply for the GMP program.

Next, I believe that consumer behavior is changing daily together with many trends and issues
happening all over the world; which brings both challenges and opportunities for businesses.
Therefore, I want to be with Fast Retailing team to embrace those obstacles and solve
challenging real-time, large scale and high-performance problems.

Last but not least, working in Japan has been my dream since my trip to Japan last year. I always
questioned myself how Japan could make such miracles in economic development, however,
after that trip, I partially found out the answer was its amazing people. Japanese people are hard-
working, kind, responsible, punctual and disciplined. Therefore, I dream of getting a chance to
work in Japan to learn such good things from Japanese people. Especially in GMP, I also can be
exposed to young talented leaders from all over the world, which is a privilege that I cannot get
easily outsides.

My biggest expectation from this program is that we, young leaders, can truly make positive
impacts on the business and customers of Fast Retailing all over the world through real business
projects. To reach that goal, we will be wholeheartedly dedicated to the work and extremely
value mentoring sessions and experience sharing from leaders of the company. Besides that,
beyond the work, I am looking forward to continuing to discover the culture and beauty of
Japan!
