REFLECTION
A teaching simulation of English subject has been conducted in the class. Thus, in this
essay, the strengths, weaknesses and a few things that need to be improved in my
presentation will be analysed and evaluated.

First and foremost, the strengths that I had discovered in the simulated teaching will
be summarised. One of the strengths that I have discovered in my presentation is the use of
ICT elements which can build a good interaction between a teacher and a student. ICT
supports the modern principles of learning and language acquisition (Kristiana Mullamaa,
2010).

Nonetheless, there are one weakness that I have identified from the presentation.
The pace of my communication with the pupils is too fast and not clear making them unable
to understand the lessons well. As a result, the pupils cannot cope with the lesson and they
are easy to be distracted by other things. They have lost their focus as they cannot catch up
with the lesson very well.

For my group members, I can discover few strengths and weaknesses during their
presentation. During the production part, Fatiha was able to reinforce the pupils to participate
actively in the activity because she offered them with rewards in the end of the lesson.
Nevertheless, her activity was quite dull because she did not use the element of ICT.
Moreover, Isya’s presentation in the practise part was not interesting because she did not
include some adjectives that were unfamiliar on our Malaysian context.

The lesson objectives have been achieved because the pupils were able to describe
words using the suitable adjectives in the end of the lesson. Nonetheless, there are few
things which I believe need to be improved in my presentation. First of all, to make the
lesson more interesting, I should have used the cue cards and showed pictures of the real
situations during the flood incidents. According to Bazo (2007), cue cards can be
implemented in some activities in teaching and learning process. On the other way round, for
my group members they should include the ICT elements as their teaching materials to
attract the students’ attention and make the lesson more interesting. Ian Magrath (2013) said
that teaching materials are a key component in most language programs. I believe that from
the simulated teaching, it can enhance my understanding on the approaches and issues in
teaching of grammar in 21st century learning ESL Classroom because I have learned to use
different techniques in teaching grammar during the lesson. Besides, I could help the
students to increase their knowledge in grammar so that they can correct their mistakes in
the written work. It also allows me to analyse their language performance so that they can
improve their reading and writing skills.
All in all, through this simulated teaching session, there are lot of things that can be
learned especially on the aspect of teaching materials. I believe that the average level of
teaching skill that I have shown in this presentation can be improved after going through a lot
of teaching experiences.
