As a multicultural and multi-religious country, India celebrates holidays and festivals of various
religions. Most of the India public holidays are religious holidays, with only three nationally celebrated
secular public holidays: Republic Day, Independence Day, and the Gandhi Jayanti.
Each state and region has local festivals depending on prevalent religious and linguistic demographics
of the population in that region.
Popular religious festivals which are celebrated almost across all parts of India include Hindu festivals
of Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Holi, Dussehra and the Islamic festivals of Eid ul-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Mawlid
an-Nab.
Sikh festivals such as Guru Nanak Jayanti, the Christian festivals such as Christmas, Good Friday and
Jain festivals like Mahavir Jayanti, Paryushan are celebrated in many areas where these religions have a
significant followings.

have proper information about indian festivals because so many festivals announced by
vedic date wise so your mostely dates are confused to us.

Hi,
Thanks for the feedbacks.
@Inderjit: I try to gather information from as many source as possible, but I’m fully
aware this holiday calender is not perfect. Do let me know if any of the dates are
incorrect.
@Rekha: I’m not an Indian, and honestly I do not know how most Indians feel about
this. I feel compelled to include most or all holidays celebrated by large number of
Indian populations. Some might not apply to you or your area.

Blooody Fools…
This is not “India’s Festival list 2011″ to give all exact date, day, and festival name. This
“Indian Holiday list” just “National Holidays” should be listed, not regional holidays.
Go ask your mother to teach you how to look up/find out date of any festival, It is sooo
easy, if you know Hindu calendar.
