MEMORANDUM NO. 2020-Apr-21-01

Date: April 21, 2020

From: Dean NILO T. DIVINA

To: ALL FACULTY MEMBERS & STUDENTS

Re: Additional & Amended Guidelines re: Faculty of Civil Law Continuity Plan
__________________________________________________________________________________________

I remain confident and continue to pray that all you are well.

Against the backdrop of the continuing enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), and taking into
account the current varying circumstances of our students, such as those who have limited access to
online facility, students who are stranded in dormitories, those with limited access to learning
materials and other similar constraints, I am adopting the following amendments to, and additional
guidelines concerning, our Faculty Continuity Plan:

A. Online Classes & Submission of Requirements

1. While online classes in the Faculty shall continue to be delivered until May 30, 2020, which is
the end of the 2nd Term of academic year AY 2019-2020, students should not be prejudiced or
placed at a disadvantage for his/her failure to participate or attend online classes. Where such
non-engagement is due to lack of access to internet facility, health reason or other ECQ-related
causes, the student should be afforded sufficient opportunity to earn his/her merit as soon as
improved circumstances permit.

2. All faculty members are requested to only prescribe reasonable online submissions and
requirements, in terms of volume, contents and period of submission, taking into consideration
the plight of students facing ECQ-related challenges and limitations -- for themselves and
their respective family. We should keep in mind that our objective, in the course of educating
our students, is to finish the subject coverage, centered on lectures and discussions.

3. Owing to the same ECQ-related constraints, online recitations and quizzes are discouraged.
Submission of reasonable requirements are preferred, within the bounds of the program set
out in this and the previous Memo.

B. INP Status

In my last Memo dated April 11, 2020, the grade/status of INP (in progress) is defined and given to a
student who is unable to submit requirements by reason of quarantine-related concerns; or at risk of
failing and was given additional intervention.

While a student who gets INP is given one term, or until the end of the First Term AY 2020-2021, to
complete the requirements for the course, without need to re-enroll, the schedule of completion
of requirements should not be earlier than two months from the official opening of classes
in the First Term AY 2020-2021, but in no case later than December 31, 2020.

C. Examination/s

1. As previously stated, no preliminary examinations will be administered this 2nd term

(AY 2019-2020).

2. Instead of an integrated final examination as previously decided, the structure of grades of the
students shall be as follows:

 For non-review courses:

o Online requirements/submission
(including past submissions/class standing) …………….. 50%
o Final (time-bound) Exam Score ……………………..………50%
-------------------------
100%
 For Review courses:

o Online requirements/submission
(including past submissions/class standing) …………….. 50%

o Final (time-bound) Exam Score

(30% of which will be departmental) ……………..………50%
-------------------------
100%
However, for those who were able to administer preliminary examinations or its
equivalent assessment instrument prior to the lockdown, we will allow flexibility in the
computation of your grades provided that the weight of the final examination grade shall
not be lower than 40% and higher than 50% of the final grade of the students.

3. Final Examinations shall be time-bound: Three (3) hours for non-review subjects and four (4)
hours for review subjects.

The guidelines and policies contained in the Faculty of Civil Law Continuity Plan Memo dated
April 11, 2020 shall continue to be in effect except for specific provisions modified in this Memo.

For your guidance.

Thank you. Stay safe and May God continue to keep and bless us.
