i. Given: n(A ∪ B) = 40, n(A) = 20 and n(A ∩ B) = 12
Now, n(A ∪ B) = n(A) + n(B) – n(A ∩ B)
40 = 20 + n(B) – 12
40 = 8 + n(B)
n(B) = 40 – 8 = 32

v. 2x + y = 5 ….(1)
3x – y = 5 ….(2)
Adding equations (1) and (2), we get
2x y 5
3x y 5
5x 10

x=2
Substituting x = 2 in equation (1), we get
2(2) + y = 5
4+y=5
y=5–4=1
x = 2 and y = 1 is the solution of the given equations.

i. The subdivided bar diagram is as follows:
ii.
From the graph it can be clearly seen that the points P, R and Q are
collinear.
Also the line passing through these points is parallel to the x-axis.
iii. A = {2, 4}
B = {x|x = 2n, n < 5, n ∈ N}
B = {2, 4, 8, 16}
C = {x|x is an even natural number ≤ 16}
C = {2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16}
The Venn diagram will be as given below:

ii.
(a) x2 – 4x – 5 = x2 – 5x + x – 5
= x(x – 5) + 1(x – 5)
= (x + 1)(x – 5)
The polynomials have zeroes when p(x) = 0.
x + 1 = 0 or x – 5 = 0
x = –1 or x = 5
The zeroes of the polynomial x2 – 4x – 5 are –1 and 5.
