of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978' as

amended is obliged to comply with the requirements of the said

112.1,. Minimum Eligibility criteria for admission in pre-sea maritime

courses

12.1 .1 . The minimum eligibility criteria for admission in pre-sea maritime

courses is given in Annexure - 1 of this Training Circular'

12.2, Online "Common Entrance Test" (CET)

The ..Common Entrance Test,, (CET) for admissions in all the pre-sea
maritime courses in phases. The "common Entrance Test" (cET) shall be
conducted by IMU for all DGS approved Maritime Training Institutes on

behalf of the Directorate. In the initial phase' the CET shall be conducted
for

admission in the following pre-sea maritime courses'

Annexure - 1 - Minimum eligibility criteria for admission in pre-sea maritime courses
General information -
Rules,
1. Candidates must be medically fit including eye sight and hearing as prescibed in the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination)
2000, as amended.
2. Part Time or Distance Learning or Correspondence Course or any combination of these will not be considered .
3. The minimum and maximum ale limits mentioned in Annexure - 1 shall be considered as on the date of commencement of
the pre-sea
maritime course.
4. The maximum age limit mentioned below shall be applicable for General Category candidates.
5. The maximum age limit for candidates belonging to "Scheduled Caste" (SC) / "scheduled Tribe" (ST) Category shall be relaxed
by 5
years.
6. The maximum age limit for candidates belonging to Non-creamy layer of "other Backward Classes' (oBC) Category shall be
relaxed by 3
years.
7, The maximum age limit for women candidates of each Category shall be relaxed by additional 2 yearc.

50 o/o in the degree exam and the medium of learning in diploma or degree was
English.
Note - l. The candidate must have passed the 1O th standard from a recognized
board. 2. The diploma and degree courses must be recognized by any State or
Central Government or the AICTE.

1.5. Quatifying cut-off marks -


1.5.1. Cut-off mark for qualiffing the candidates shall be decided based on the
overall performance of the candidates in the online CET exams and
difficulty level of the question paper'
1.5.2. Relaxation in cut-off marks for the candidates of OBC, SC, ST Categories
shall be decided based on the Government of India guidelines issued from

time to time. Reservation is applicable in case of Government Institutes.


The marks obtained by a candidate in online CET examination shall
be

2. Online Counselling
There shall be a common online counselling of the candidates for
admissions

in various MTIs. However, the MTI is free to opt out of the common
counsellingandhavetheirowncounselling.TheMTlsmayalsohaveadual
systemofowncounsellingforpartoftheseatsandcommoncounsellingfor
theremainingpartandinthatcasethenumberofseatsofferedforcommon
counselling shall be notified to the Directorate'
