Course Syllabus in: SPECIALIZED CRIME INVESTIGATION WITH LEGAL MEDICINE

AY 2019-2020

II. COURSE TITLE: SPECIALIZED CRIME INVESTIGATION WITH LEGAL MEDICINE
III. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This subject is intended and part of the curriculum of Bachelor of Science in Criminology
students, covering theories and techniques of Criminal Investigation on special cases such as
robbery, homicide, murder, parricide, kidnapping, carnapping cases and other specific crimes
which require a Special Crime Investigation with the application of Legal Medicine. A special
study on modern techniques in the investigation of crimes punishable under penal laws.

V. Prerequisite : CDI1- FUNDAMENTALS OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION
VI. Course Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, the students will be able to

A. Cognitive
1. Learn the difference of Criminal Investigation from Special Crime Investigation.
2. Understand the purpose of combining the application of Legal Medicine to Investigation.
3. Engage in lifelong learning and understand the need to keep abreast with the
development in the fields of practice.
4. Demonstrate ability to conduct proper crime scene investigations.
5. Apply knowledge and skills in conciliation and alternative dispute resolution.

B. Psychomotor
1. Apply knowledge, skills essential to the practice of crime detection and investigation and
field of Criminalistics.
2. Work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
3. Know the duties and responsibilities of an Investigator.
4. Describe and discuss the collection and preservation of evidence.
5. Describe and discuss the uses of forensic sciences.

1. Develop critical thinking and decision-making skills.
2. To develop analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in an investigative context.
3. Generate and communicate ideas by combining, changing, or reapplying existing
information in an investigation.

The student’s responsibility is to come to each class prepared. S/he is also expected to take all
examinations on the date scheduled. S/he should read the assigned problems prior to class. She
is expected to attend each class and participate actively in the discussions.

X. ACADEMIC DISHONESTY

All students are expected to be academically honest. Cheating, lying and other forms of
unethical behavior will not be tolerated. Any student found guilty of cheating in examinations or
plagiarism in submitted course. Plagiarism refers to the use of books, notes or other intellectual
property without giving proper attribution to its author, or representing the work of another
person as one’s own, Cheating refers to securing help in a test; copying test, assignments,
reports or term papers; collaborating with other students during an examinations or in
preparing academic work; signing another student’s name on an attendance sheet; or otherwise
practicing scholastic dishonesty.

XI. POLICY on ABSENCES

The allowed number of absences for students enrolled in a class follow the criteria below.
Request for excused absences or waiver of absences must be presented upon reporting back to
class, special examination will be allowed only in special cases, such as prolonged illness. It is the
responsibility of the student to monitor her/his own tardy incidents and absences that might
accumulate leading to a grade of “FA”. It is also her responsibility to consult with the teacher,
chair or dean should her/his case be of special nature.
