⁣Here's some advice. If you're planning to watch

Drive on Netflix, go to the search bar, type 'Drive'
and click on the second movie which comes up.
Tarun Mansukhani's 'Drive' cannot hold a candle
to the brilliant 2011 Ryan Gosling movie of the
same name. Mansukhani's Drive is a torturous,
epigonic rip-off of innumerable heist movies
which are themselves banal most of the times.⁣

Sushant Singh Rajput, Jacqueline Fernandez,

Boman Irani, Pankaj Tripathy make up the star
cast in a movie about a criminal Mastermind who
steals 300 kg worth of gold and for some reason
informs the authorities where he will strike next,
which includes the Rashtrapati Bhavan, because
stakes and heist go hand in hand. It's not just a
Bollywood thing actually when it comes to stakes
in a heist movie, it's always about one-
upmanship. I'm waiting for the day some Director
makes a movie about robbing the neighborhood
Co-operative Bank by some low self esteem
robbers, instead of the smug looking character
played by Sushant in this film.⁣ ⁣

What works:⁣⁣

- Nothing.⁣

W
⁣ hat doesn’t work:⁣⁣

(⁣This is going to be long)⁣

- Sushant Singh Rajput has a plastered on smug

know-it-all face throughout the movie. So much
so that the other characters are reduced to
asking dreary questions which are met with smirk
answers. Jacqueline fails miserably in a role which
requires her to be slightly more than an eye
candy. Pankaj Tripathy and Boman Irani gave up
on the script midway.⁣

- A movie which boasts of a big production house

is surprisingly pedestrian with absolutely
appalling graphics, evident even on a streaming
service. Thank god Dharma Productions didn't
have a theatrical release for it!

Verdict : Turn on navigation and steer clear of

this one.

DRIVE (NETFLIX) REVIEW ¦ ZERO STAR

Imagine a man (Read Tarun Mansukhani) who has

got this weird obsession for imported perfumes.
So, he goes to his daddy (Read Karan Johar) and
tells him to give money. The generous father
gives his son crores and crores of rupees. So, he
buys all the bottles, which exists in this world and
empties it on himself, thinking he will get the best
fragrance. Alas, all he gets is MESS!

Thank God, this movie was not released in

theatres. A large amount of cash flow got saved
from getting wasted. Drive is one of the most
ridiculously scripted and executed movies you will
ever see. An impatient man would leave this film
in just about twenty minutes. Me, being a patient
soul, irrespective of a bad book or a bad movie,
continued for two hours. By the end, the movie
drove me nuts.

I have no idea how Netflix even approved this

bizarre and illogical plot. It would be one of the
biggest mistakes for them to get associated with
such so-called cinematic work.

So, now the movie starts with a host of Big Boyz

Toys provided foreign cars and people with
minimum clothes, who have no better work to do
at night than to drop cloth for starting a race or
cheering the drivers. Then, as expected the race
begins and eardrums get hammered with loud
engine noises and eventually one of them wins.
That one is Tara (Jacqueline Fernandez) who
prefers driving in a fancy outfit because people
who drive in Formula one, with a baggage of
clothes are just idiots.

Then we come to know about this robbery in a

jewelry store, where a robber named ‘KING’ has
taken around 300 kilograms of gold bars.
Nonsense, but I still accepted this fact. However,
the next robbery is planned at Rashtrapati
Bhavan. The makers didn’t get any damn place in
this world, but the house of the President of India.
Wow! This is where I was convinced, the movie is
going to be SHIT.

Enters, Samar (Sushant Singh), another driver

cum robber, who joins Tara and her gang,
comprising of weird-looking Bikki (Vikramjeet
Virk) and Naina (Sapna Pabbi) and impresses
them by robbing 50 lakhs from a corrupt police
officer. Life is so just simple for these bunch of
morons!

While Boman Irani, Pankaj Tripathy, and Vibha

Chibber sit in the Bhavan formulating strategies
to catch them, on another side, we see these
bunch of people who spend all their time in Big
Boyz Toys Service Center, where cars are not
serviced at all, not even for a minute. Only
robbery plans are discussed in designer outfits.

The problem with Drive is that it is just full of

problems and nothing else. Apart from an idiotic
plot, the movie suffers even on technical fronts.
Dubbing, which is the most basic aspect of film-
making is inconsistent. You can clearly see the
mouths moving with some other words and the
actors saying something else. The music and
background score are an utter disaster. On top of
it, the CGI is so bad that even Super Mario looks
cooler in front of it.

Hundreds of cameras inside the Bhavan are just

hacked at the tip of the fingers. Hundreds of CGI
mice are made to enter the place. Fake ID’s are
created. Records are altered. People are fooled in
such an unconvincing way as if our heroes are the
only smartest people on this planet.

The final few minutes involve four Ferraris, which

are driven as if traffic in Delhi has just
disappeared. They literally drive inside an airport,
nearly miss planes which are about to take off.
They even make their cars jump from one end of
an under-construction flyover to another and they
again come back at the airport to board a private
plane, leaving their expensive cars like wasted
tissue papers.

The semi-final twist is laughable. The final twist is

predictable. The makers were not satisfied
robbing 890 crores from the Bhavan. So, they
move to rob infinite diamonds from a bank’s vault
in London. Thankfully, the movie ended there.

God knows why Sushant Singh Rajput just smiles

and smirks throughout the movie in the name of
acting. And I think it's high time Ms. Fernandez
quits acting and become the next Rakhi Sawant,
focusing only on item numbers.

Drive is like that poison, which almost kills you

after two hours. I resurrected myself by seeing an
old episode of Taarak Mehta. So, do not punish
yourself with this crap. Life is indeed beautiful.
The world would be provided generous fathers of
Dharma Productions spend money wisely.

To start with, I would suggest you better play a
racing game rather than watching this film. I
usually don’t bash a film but can't control this
time. This screenshot of a game looks better than
the VFX used in this film. Let's begin:

This movie was announced in 2016 and it was

meant to be on the lines of Fast and Furious.
Being a movie buff I was excited and I even
tweeted about this film. Here is my old tweet
which I wrote when this movie was announced.

#salman and #karan combined will produce

an action flick on the lines of
#fast_and_furious starring #Sushant and
#Jacqueline.....Can't wait
— Manish Raj Srivastav (@saddaaindia) April

This movie was supposed to release in 2017 end

or maybe in 2018 beginning but it got postponed
to release on 28 June 2019. But makers again
announced that they are moving the release date
of the film but makers didn’t announce any new
date.

Finally a month back Karan Johar announced that

this movie is going to release on 1st Nov 2019 on
Netflix. I was shocked to see that because from
the beginning this movie was branded as a
commercial film.

Anyway, last week this movie finally released on

Netflix and now I know why the makers were
postponing this film. Maybe they started with a
thought that it's going to be an action entertainer
but it ended up as a dud fare.

The plot was good but it needed a solid story & a

tight screenplay but that was missing. The story is
very dull, makers have tried to keep a few twists
but the impact was missing, every time I knew the
twists even before it came.

Coming to performance, as usual, Jacqueline

looks stunning but lacks in acting. Sushant had a
weird look on his face throughout the film, maybe
he was trying to have a classy look but I feel it
didn’t work at all.

Other supporting cast had nothing much do.

Pankaj and Boman were completely wasted. I
literally felt that no one was interested in the film,
they were all doing their part because they signed
the film.

Tarun has directed this film who previously

directed Dostana and his inexperience in action
and thriller zone is pretty evident when you see
the film. I would say a brave attempt for it fell flat
on the surface.

Coming to technicalities, the camera work is very

lousy. The film has too many unnecessary slo-mo
shots. The BG score is not effective and not very
realistic. It sounds like an old action racing game.

The music of the film is not good, the album

didn’t have a single song which you will
remember after you finish this film. The worst part
of the film is its VFX, the worst I have seen in any
Bollywood film in recent days.

The action sequences are not very well

choreographed on top of that the VFX is very
cartoonish which spoils your movie experience. I
seriously don’t understand how can a big
production house Dharma can mess up so badly.

I understand that sometimes the story and final

product don’t connect with the audience like it
happened with Kalank but no one can deny that
Kalank’s production was top-notch, this is what
Dharma is known for.

I really feel Dharma had this idea to make

something on the line of Fast-Furious and have its
own franchise like YRF is doing with Dhoom but
the idea didn’t turn out as they thought and they
lost the track.

Maybe that’s the reason Dharma didn’t invest

much in the film, they were not happy with the
final product and its treatment that’s why they
didn’t even promote the film well and just
released on Netflix.

I was really excited when this film was announced

but I am really disappointed after seeing it. I will
give 1.5/5 stars to the film. Dharma will really
want to forget this film. Bad year for Dharma,
after Kalank another disappointment.

Keep reading and Keep Learning.

Thank you so much for your time.

My Review On Drive.

‘DRIVE’ JUST TOUCHES THE LINES OF

CASUAL ENTERTAINMENT

It’s difficult to understand why the makers

invested so much resources in a film like this

Just so that you can justify the title of the film,

you make your characters drive the sports cars
every 10 mins into the film. Does it serve a
purpose? Clearly no. Having seen so many heist
films in the past, in Hindi cinema or internationally
more recently, if this is what the makers will throw
at you, you wonder can such people ever
contribute in strengths of Hindi cinema. Drive
offers nothing new. Absolutely
Continue nothing. Even that
