Issue 122 16th October 2020

What a marvellous week!

Children in Years 3 and 4 were in for a special treat this week. Grandma, from the
book 'George's marvellous medicine' sent them a recorded video and even
visited them via their Zoom session on Wednesday. Grandma answered some of
their questions whilst sipping on her cup of tea AND shouting at poor George.
The children also dressed up as George or Grandma and spent the day in the role
of their chosen character. Do you recognise ‘Grandma’?

Children also recorded videos in which they answered questions that they had
previously created. What a fun way of learning and empathising with a character
from a book. Year 4 certainly look like they are enjoying it here!

Our congratulations also go to Bailey (Head Girl,

Year 6) who was recently awarded 'Aged 10 and
Under Girls Winner' in the Gravesham Tennis
Club Annual Junior Tournament and the 'Star of
the Match' in an under 11s Girls Football game.
These are excellent achievements Bailey and well
done from the Bronte family.

We were pleased to welcome Reverend Jim

Learning about to lead us in our assembly on Monday,
helping us to think about respect for one
Respect. another. Introducing us to a collection of
ducks of all shapes, sizes and special
qualities, children were able to learn about
valuing one another regardless of abilities
and appearances. We are always grateful to
the team at St.George's Church for their
creativity and the children were pleased to
see him, albeit from a social distance.

Leya and Tristan (Year 6)

were recommended for
silver stars this week in
school. They never fail to
give of their best and
are kind and supportive
to all others around
them. Mrs Prescott
commented upon their
positive approach to
school life, making them
a real pleasure to teach.

During assembly this week, Ore (Year 6) and Tommy (Year 5) were able to
perform as their bubbles entered and exited the hall. They are both making
good progress and this was useful practice for forthcoming exams. They both
performed very well indeed.

Kindergarten look like they have

been enjoying their French
lessons with Madame Barwell
this week.

Watch this space, as next week

Madame Barwell has planned
some activities for German
morning on Tuesday for the
Upper School too!

Year 6 have been studying Carl Linnaeus and his classification system for all living
things. This is a very complex area of science and the children have worked
extremely hard to understand how this works. They have learnt that all living
things can be identified using categories.

This week, the children had to decide on a Class of animal and then design their
own creature, including ALL of the characteristics of that particular class.
For example, a bird, to be a bird, needs to have 2 legs, wings, a beak and lay
eggs.

Mrs Prescott was extremely impressed with the way that Year 6 worked to
understand this difficult area of science and wanted to share the designs of
Alice, Bailey, Leya, Ore, Leela and Jaya. Well done to our Year 6 scientists!

rten DIY.
I wonder which class has the most fun at Bronte School? When they are not
speaking French, it seems like Kindergarten are in the workshop. Here they
are enjoying using the woodwork bench, developing super hand to eye
coordination as nails are being hammered into pieces of wood.

With those googles on and their heads

downwards as they concentrate, I
wonder if you can tell who the two
carpenters are in the garden?

And finally, after such a busy week , we must not forget the hard work of
our Year 6 pupils who took their 11+ on Thursday. During this exam season,
we are very proud of them all and wish them a restful weekend. Well done to
everyone.
