Drug classification: Laxative Suggested Dose: 2 Tablets Mechanism of action: It alters water and electrolyte transport in the large intestine resulting in accumulation of water and increased peristalsis Indication: Constipation, Pre-operation Contraindication: Hypersensitivity, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, feve,. Bleeding of the stomach, intestines, or rectum Side effects & Adverse Effects: Cramping Diarrhea Nausea Discoloration of urine Nursing Intervention: 1. Inform the patient to use for short term therapy 2. Follow Doctor’s prescription accordingly 3. Don't take more or less Senokot than is recommended. 4. Don't split, chew, or crush the tablets. Swallow them whole. 5. Inform the patient to take Senokot with a full glass of water and be sure to drink extra fluids (eight glasses a day) while taking this medicine. 6. Inform patient to not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose. 7. Instruct the patient to take the medicine at bedtime. 8. Inform any health care provider if any adverse effect occurs. 9. Inform the prescriber if you have a history of hypersensitivity to the drug 10. Inform the patient if she missed a dose of Senokot, take it as soon as possible.
