Complete and submit this Report file. The item numbers below correspond to the
numbers in the Instructions file. In your answers, be sure to use the correct units and an
appropriate number of significant figures.

Distance (m)

2. Describe how E varies with d.

As the distance between the charge and the sensors increases, the magnitude of the
electric field decreases. There seems to be an inverse relationship between the two.

3. Submit the graph of V as a function of d along with this report file.

5. Record the equation for the best fit trend line: y = 0.2869x – 1.7533

6. Give an expression relating the slope of the best fit line to Coulomb’s constant k e:

1. Describe qualitatively the equipotential lines. What shape are they? Where are the
located?

The equipotential lines measure the electric potential or voltage of each sensor in
relation to the positive 1nC charge. They are circular shaped lines and perpendicular to
the electric field with no specific direction. They also connect all the points that have
similar potential energy and are parallel to the surface of the conducting charge.
