3.2 Rationale:
Organic gardening is integrated in growing vegetables in school gardens which aims to practice
the use of organic fertilizers and organic pesticides.
Composting using the compost pit method utilizes the compostable materials from trash bins of
all year levels, in each section that are collected every afternoon. Vegetable stubbles are
chopped, classified as green vegetation and the first layer in the compost pit and brown
vegetation for the second layer, animal manure, top soil, fine sand, banana bracts and ash
respectively.
Benefits of composting is integrated in subjects in Science and T.L.E to elaborate the procedure
and importance of composting for home gardens and school garden.

Objectives:
1. Biodegradable waste are collected in sacks or disposable bags and deposited in the
compost pit.
2. Identify the biodegradable materials into green vegetation or brown vegetation before it is
piled with other composting materials.
3. Produce fertilizer input needed for the school garden
4. Support the solid waste management program
