RCC Design of Heel-Slab: Input Data

1) The heel slab is designed according to clause 15.5 of CBC for railway bridges. 2) The design bending moments are calculated at various locations and the required reinforcement is determined. 3) A 325mm effective depth is calculated to resist the bending moments using M25 concrete and 500MPa reinforcement. 4) Shear capacity is checked at the face of the stem, and stirrups are provided for shear reinforcement even though not strictly required.

CALCULATION
As per clause 15.7 of CBC abutment is designed as slab according clause 15.5

Design ultimate bending moment at bottom of Rtn. = -0.52 tm / RM. Length

= -0.52 tm/RM
Design ultimate bending moment at bottom of Rtnt. = -0.52 tm/RM
Design ultimate bending moment at Ist ch. Lvl. of Rtn. = -0.9 tm/RM
( Assuming factor of safety as per Table 12 of CBC )

To calculate depth of section :- ( As per IS 456 )

Mu
Effective Depth d = = #NUM! mm < 325 ok
0.138 fckb

0.5 fck b d 4.6 Mu

Ast for under-reinforced section = 1- 1-
fy fck b d2

1 RCC-Heel-slab
= -36.6 mm^2
Ast at first checking level = -60.2 mm^2 d= 325.01
Check for Mu as per CBC Railway cl. 15.4.2.2
1.1 fy Ast
Mu = 0.87fyAst Z ; Z = 1 - xd
fck b d

Z = 325.81

Mu = -5191475.552 Nmm = -0.52 TM > -0.52 TM

Spacing of 16 mm dia steel on tension side = -5486.14 mm c/c
( In one layers ) say 150 mm c/c B6
0.412 %
Additional 0 # mm @ 200 mm c/c 0.000 %

Spacing of 12 mm dia steel on tension side = -1879.09 mm c/c

At first checking lvl. say 75 mm c/c
( At 0.600 mt from free end )
Use 0. 12 % steel on tension side distribution 435 mm^2
Spacing of 8 mm distribution on tension side = 115.49 mm c/c B7
say 150 mm c/c

Use 0.12 % steel on compression side parellel to main reinforst.= 390 mm^2

spacing of 16 mm dia main steel on compression side = 515.28 B9

Say 150 mm c/c
Use 0.06 % steel on other side perpendicular to main reinforst.= 217.5 mm^2
Spacing of 8 mm dia steel on compression side = 230.99 mm c/c B8
( Perpendicular to main steel .06 % ) say 150.00 mm c/c
CHECK FOR SHEAR :- ( Ckd. section at distance " d " as per clause 15.4.3.3 of CBC )

Factored shear on Heel Slab at face of stem= -2.5 Tonne/ total length
= -2.46 Tonne/RM critical section at face of stem as per
Ultimate shear on Heel Vu = -2.46 Tonne/RM IS 456 Cl.22.6.2.1 & Dayaratnam ex.
Depth at distance " d' " = 325.00 mm 14.1 Pg 689
Shear stress = Vu / bd = -0.076 N/mm^2 -- at face of stem

Permissible shear stress as per table 15 & 16 of CBC = 0.420 N/mm^2

for M25 0.412 % steel
Permissible shear stress as per table 15 & 16 of CBC & cl. 15.7of CBC = 0.420 N/mm^2
As v is more than 0.420
Shear reinforcement is given by
Use 4 legs/mt. 8 dia steel
Asv 0.87fyv
Sv = = -914.10
b(v+0.4-SVc )
Theorotically no shear reinforcement is necessary but provided.

Provide four legged stirrups 8 mm dia at spacing = 200 mm c/c

( four legs / RM )
As v is less than 0.420
No shear reinforcement is required as per Cl. 15.5.4.1.1
But provide shear reinforcement as per toe section.

No shear reinforcement is required as per Cl. 15.5.4.1.1
