SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN EARTH SCIENCE

I. Content Standard
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the different phenomena that occur in the
atmosphere.

II. Performance Standard


The learners shall be able to analyze the advantage of the location of the Philippines in
relation to the climate, weather, and season.

III. Learning Competency


The learners should be able to discuss how energy from the Sun interacts with the layers
of the atmosphere. (S7ES-IVg-8)

IV. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Describe the occurrence of monsoons.
2. Give examples how monsoons (amihan and habagat) affect people

1. Review:
 Let the student identify the drawing.
 What is greenhouse?

C. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation
 Let the students sing the song “RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY”.
 What does the song tell?

2. Presentation
- Today we are going to explore more about our atmosphere, we’ll get to
know the monsoons.
 Northeast Monsoon (Amihan)
The Northeast Monsoon features cool and dry air that originates in
a vast anticyclone – a weather system with a high barometric
pressure - which forms over Siberia, Mongolia and northern China
during each northern winter. It causes cloud development and
rainfall at the eastern sections of the country. It normally occurs
during the months of November to February each year.
 Southwest Monsoon (Habagat)
Seasonal winds blowing from the southwest direction. It causes
extensive cloud development and rainfall at the western sections of
the country. Occurs during the months of June to October each
year.

D. Activity Proper
 The class will be divided into groups. Each group will be given
reading materials about hanging habagat and amihan. (8-10
minutes)
 Guide questions will be posted on the board. Each group will read
their answer in front of the class.

E. Post Activity
- Each group will answer the following guide questions:
 What is a monsoon?
 Give the two types of monsoon that comes in the Philippines.
 Which part of the country is affected by Northeast monsoon?
Southeast monsoon?
 Whenre does hanging amihan comes from? How about hanging
habagat?
 When does hanging habagat occurs? How about hanging amihan?
 Describe Northeast monsoon and Southwest monsoon.

- Why is it cold during December to February and warm July?
