The document lays out the procedure for conducting a water leakage test on water retaining structures to check for leaks.

The purpose of the water leakage test is to lay down the procedure for testing water retaining structures in KNPC Clean Fuel Project, Area-3 and Package-2 for leaks.

The main steps of the water leakage test procedure are cleaning and preparing the structure, filling it with water, inspecting it daily for 3 days, and calculating water loss after stabilization.

Water Leakage Test for Water Retaining Structures
Revision No.:02, 23rd April 2015

6.0 Procedure
 All concrete works to be completed before commencement of water test.
 Proper scaffolding where necessary will be erected according to HSE Procedure.
 The repair works if any for the structure to be completed.
 The structure to be cleaned initially from all dust, loose aggregates, foreign materials
and debris etc. prior to filling water.
 Standing water inside or outside of the tank if any will be removed.
 All openings, fittings, and pipe penetrations in the tank shell shall be inspected at both
faces of the concrete to make sure the tank is clean and all repair works are carried out.
 All tank penetrations and outlets will be sealed to prevent the loss of water from the tank
during the test.
 RFI will be raised to FDH/COMPANY to take approval before proceeding with the filling
of water.
 The initial filling of a new tank will not exceed 1.2m/h.
 The exterior surfaces of the basin will be inspected during the period of filling, if any flow
of water is observed from the exterior surfaces of the basin, joints or cracks, the defect
which causing the leakage will be repaired according to the approved Method
Statement.

 The vertical distance to the water surface will be measured from a fixed point which is
marked on the basin above the water surface.

 The measurement of variation in the water level during the test will be measured by a
floating device which will be installed at the top level of water and projected outside the
tank opening and the variation in the water level will be measured on scale or reference
will be made as the top surface of existing concrete near the opening.

6.1. Main Test

 Filling will continue as per ‘procedure of clause 2.3.4 of below said ACI Standard’ until
the water surface is at the design maximum liquid level or 100mm below any fixed
overflow level, whichever is lower.
 The water will be kept at the test level of concrete basin for three days for considering
sufficient allowance for moisture absorption by the concrete and temperature
stabilization of the test water.
 The water tank will be inspected daily for damp, spots, seepage and leakage as per
clause 2.4.6 of attached ACI Standard.
 At the end of the test period of 3 days, the level of water surface will be recorded.
Clause 2.4.7 of attached ACI Standards.
 The loss of water will be calculated after stabilization period at every 12 hours.
 The water temperature shall also be recorded at the time of inspection at every 12 hrs.

6.2. Acceptance Criteria

 The allowable loss of water for HST-100 tightness tests will not exceed 0.1% of the test
water volume in 24 hrs. as per ACI 350.1/350.1R-10, 2.5.2.

7.0 List of Tools and Tackles

7.1. Equipment
 Water Hose Pipe
 Water Tanker
 Tower Light
 Measuring tape

8.0 Health Safety and Environment

8.1. Personnel
 All personnel employed in the execution of works shall be suitably experienced and
qualified for the work they undertake.

8.2. Safety
 All safety aspects shall be in accordance with Project HSE Plan manual and compliance
with KNPC Fire and Safety Regulations.
