Directions: Read the passage. Then, unravel the meaning of the listed words below
based on how they were used in the passage. Use the context clues provided. Write
the answers on your paper.
I am perplexed about how our heroes fought for our freedom. It puzzles me
how exactly they did it. While plausible or believable events of Philippine
Independence were shared from generation to generation, it still invites my curiosity
of how our heroes fought for our freedom.
Many Filipinos shed blood to attain our independence or the state of being
free of control from a person, country, or entity. Conquerors worried that
recalcitrant Filipinos or people who are difficult to manage will not agree on their
plans so they created strife or conflict among Filipinos to divide them. Their quest
or search for our independence was a tough journey of ups and downs.
Today’s generation should emulate or imitate the good deeds of our heroes.
They should always remember the valor or bravery of our forefathers who offered
their lives to attain the freedom we enjoy at present. They must feel exultant or
proud about being a Filipino. To commemorate is to remember their heroic acts
done for the country. These heroes of yesterday are today’s treasures that serve as
guiding light and inspiration to the new generation.
