With the availability of various advanced technological tools, the current business environment
has witnessed a great leap towards data analytics. Using any industry or organization as an
example, discuss the impact of data analytics on its distribution and logistics function. Do you
think data analytics will play a more prominent role in the area of distribution and logistics
management in future?
Question 2:
The immediate and tangible impact of the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide has been experienced
by many businesses. Some witnessed a huge drop in their annual turnover, whilst others were
totally ruined. However, the case is completely different for electronic commerce and online
shopping. Apart from the medical sector, businesses that had adopted online shopping witnessed
tremendous growth. Sales grew by leaps and bound as consumers had no other choice but to stay
safe at home. Discuss the important role played by customer service along with information
technology in the distribution and logistics management of the goods purchased by consumers
worldwide during this pandemic. Illustrate your discussion with relevant examples.
Question 1:
- The impact of data analytics on its distribution and logistics function on Logistic
industry:
Definition: Data analysis, often known as data mining, is the act of sifting through vast amounts
of data to locate and collect valuable information. Companies of all sizes may benefit greatly
from these condensed facts, also known as key insights, in making important choices.
When we use the phrase "Data Analytics," we're referring to the examination of large amounts of
data. The term "data" refers to large amounts of information obtained from many sources, while
"analytics" refers to the use of powerful tools to extract useful information from the information
obtained. The supply chain and logistics industry has been a major user of data analytics.
Supply Chain Visibility:
Data analytics is one such tool that aids in the real-time tracking of items and machines. One can
control and monitor vehicles and keep track of shipments from the manufacturing process to the
last mile delivery of products. Continuous device monitoring results in enhanced delivery and
shipping status. This increases supply chain efficiency and creates an environment in which
leaders and stakeholders may acquire supply chain information more efficiently and quickly. As
an illustrative example, Check out how the UK's biggest foodservice provider uses a
comprehensive IoT and Azure solution to obtain real-time visibility over its supply chain. The
supply chain management solution, which included a mobile app, made it possible for fleet
managers and drivers to communicate effectively.
Route Optimization:
Route optimization is the process of determining the most efficient way from point A to point B.
This decreases the amount of time it takes to deliver an item while simultaneously increasing the
system's efficiency. The same may be said about optimizing logistical routes. Obtaining data
from a variety of sources resulted in a large amount of information, everything from GPS to
weather, fleet information, and delivery schedules feeds into the algorithm, which then predicts
the best delivery path. As an illustrative example, read about how a major food service company
uses a Microsoft Power BI-based Business Intelligence solution to provide meaningful insights.
The system enables the company's supply chain and operations team to easily track and control
food delivery operations. The interactive Power BI supply chain dashboards reveal crucial
business information on Temperature Threshold, Driver Performance, and Customer Behavior,
allowing the team to make more informed decisions.
Making sense of compliance:
It's no secret that many businesses today struggle to comply with international regulations. The
shipping and logistics business is no exception, with strong compliance regulations in place.
Compliance causes a lot of hassles for stakeholders, but it's still an important aspect of supply
chain procedures that has to be carefully examined. Not only must international regulatory
requirements be met, but there is also the matter of eliminating legal risks that might jeopardize
the bottom line.
Data analytics will undoubtedly become more important as major businesses adjust to the
industry's changing requirements. Shippers and brokers may use predictive analytics to track
compliance, eliminate supply chain bottlenecks, and apply logistics best practices. In this way,
data analytics is critical for identifying problem areas and resolving challenges.
Using analytics for transactions:
Another advantage of data analytics is that it may help to eliminate mistakes and streamline
supply chain processes. Supply chain operations are certainly complicated, which might result in
the transmission of incorrect information. Cross-border payments, for example, are an area that
requires more precision. However, there are several hazards associated with financial transfers.
Supply chain stakeholders must utilize data analytics to detect weaknesses and potential
bottlenecks to higher efficiency to manage such concerns. This will enable informed decisions to
be made when it comes to using secure technologies and global mass payment systems to reduce
mistakes and ensure timely payments.

Data analytics will undoubtedly play a significant role in assisting supply chain stakeholders in
improving their operations and avoiding roadblocks. Numbers will undoubtedly guide the
industry toward a highly productive and successful bottom line.
The ever-increasing amount of data accessible has hastened the development of a slew of
business intelligence tools that have come to be known as Big Data Analytics. Big Data
Analytics is particularly important to Supply Chain Management because it gives the tools for
decision-making in more global, volatile, and dynamic value networks.
However, its implementation raises questions about existing institutional structures as well as
data management duties. The underlying empirical study uses a multi-method approach based on
Organizational Information Processing Theory to resolve this difficulty. Expert assessments of
estimates up to the year 2035 were combined in a Delphi poll, and fuzzy c-means clustering was
used to determine future scenarios that span the future of Big Data Analytics in Supply Chain
Management. According to the report, Big Data Analytics will help with demand forecasting,
safety stock reduction, and supplier performance monitoring. Supply chain procedures, on the
other hand, will become more automated, and conventional Supply Chain Management activities
will be partially replaced as a result. As a result, the necessity of human intuition, trust, and
strategic decision-making will rise as the conventional position of Supply Chain Management
inside firms is transitioned.
Question 2:
The important role played by customer service along with information technology in the
distribution and logistics management of the goods purchased by consumers worldwide
during this pandemic:
According to a Google-Temasek analysis released in November 2018, the E-commerce business
in Vietnam was worth 2.8 billion dollars in 2018 and is anticipated to reach 15 billion dollars by
2025. Vietnam is the second-fastest-growing market in Southeast Asia, only after Indonesia, with
a daily growth rate of 43 percent between 2015 and 2025. The logistics business is being
propelled forward by the fast growth of the E-commerce business. Alibaba and Tencent, two of
the world's largest e-commerce companies, have invested in Lazada, Tiki, and Shopee in
Vietnam, while prominent domestic companies like FPT and Vingroup have also made
significant investments in their E-commerce websites (Sendo, Adayroi). The e-commerce
industry's game is hotter than ever, thanks to the growth of the logistics ecosystem and e-
payment.
The development of E-commerce creates the foundation for E-logistics:
The final stage in a company's delivery to a customer is known as last-mile logistics. The initial,
middle, and end miles of a delivery procedure are all distinct. The products are shipped to the
delivery firm from the store or manufacturer. Transferring goods back and forth between
fulfillment facilities is known as the middle-mile (where export and import, order processing,
and packaging are performed). Taking finished items and sending them to the final buyer is the
last mile. Customers want to get things as soon as possible when shopping online, hence last-
mile logistics is critical in E-commerce. This is a crucial area in which E-commerce firms must
actively spend to get a competitive advantage over their rivals. However, E-commerce logistics,
particularly companies that provide last-mile delivery services in Vietnam, are still in their early
stages of development, and they have not yet met all of the needs of retailers in Vietnam, such as
fast delivery - fewer errors - optimal cost when they have a large number of orders every day.
The rapid growth of E-commerce channels in Vietnam causes a lot of demand and pressure for
logistics, but it also means that the E-logistics business has a bright future. E-logistics in
Vietnam's retail business was valued at EUR 90 million (equivalent to USD 103 million) in
2018, according to Ken Research, and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 42 percent each year
through 2022.
How are the largest E-commerce businesses in Vietnam handling this stage of
transportation?
Some E-commerce platforms (such as Lazada E-logistics Express and Tiki Now) have created
their own logistics infrastructure and staff to handle import-export, order sorting, packaging, and
logistics operations transportation. Furthermore, certain businesses, such as Thegioididong,
Dienmayxanh, FPT shop, and Nguyen Kim, transport their products on their own, utilizing the
company's huge retail network. Furthermore, most other online merchants are unable to maintain
an in-house logistics crew and must rely on third-party logistics (or 3PLs) to save money. Lazada
opted to build its own logistics department to handle roughly 55-60 percent of orders, as well as
use third-party logistics providers to assure customer support, promotions, and shipping cost
optimization. Other e-commerce platforms, such as Shopee and Sendo, continue to rely on 3PL
delivery partners for transportation.
Vietnam has about 50 businesses providing E-logistics:
Traditional postal service providers, such as VN Post, EMS, and Viettel Post, in particular,
respond rapidly to market demand. These firms have the benefit of a broad countrywide postal
network, enormous capacity, and operational experience when it comes to transporting products
to remote regions. Furthermore, with the demand for fast and immediate delivery of online
shopping customers, particularly in urban areas, logistics start-ups have an excellent opportunity
to implement technological solutions, improve the quality of goods and services, improve the
quality of transportation services, and optimize the operating system. Several E-logistics firms
have emerged throughout the years. Some businesses are backed by investors, and well-known
brands like Fast Delivery (GHN), Economical Delivery (GHTK), NinjaVan, and others are
presently delivery partners for large E-commerce businesses in Vietnam. DHL eCommerce, a
global logistics company, just introduced the "DHL Parcel Metro Same Day" service, which
provides real-time order monitoring and delivery timetables via DHL's digital platform. DHL
eCommerce Vietnam also works with the Sendo e-commerce platform (which has over 300,000
online retailers) to provide logistical services to its clients. Furthermore, on-demand delivery is
exploding to satisfy customers' urgent delivery expectations, particularly in the food delivery
industry. This has made the market more lively than ever, allowing start-ups like Ahamove,
Lalamove, Delivery Now, Grab, GoViet, and many other small businesses to compete.
Even though this is a promising field, E-logistics providers nevertheless face several obstacles.
One of the most significant issues is that they must handle cash-on-delivery (COD), which
increases human management complexity and operational expenses. With the rising amount of
E-commerce transactions, logistics companies must also manage a high amount of returned,
exchanged, and damaged items. Furthermore, E-logistics companies confront considerable
obstacles such as incorrect delivery addresses (particularly in rural regions) and non-delivery
orders. Furthermore, 75 percent of E-commerce purchases placed in and between two large
metropolitan centers (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) face considerable traffic challenges, which
are frequently clogged. As a result, competition in terms of delivery speed and cost will continue
to be a major problem for E-logistics providers. As a result, E-commerce will be one of
Vietnam's fastest-growing businesses, and the revolution in logistics promises to propel this
sector even higher, particularly during the Covid-19 epidemic.
