The weight of the beams are as follows:
1. Solid beam – 14.5kg. (f2)
2. Beam with Full EPS – 10.3kg ( f3)
3. Half EPS beam – 12.5kg (f1)
The EPS sheets used for the study had the
following properties.
1.Density: 6.37kg/m3 for 60mm thick EPS sheet

2. EPS sheets absorbed more than 80% of water,
when the sample is immersed in water for 24 hours,
but it regains its property immediately after drying.
3. Compressive Strength:0.8-1.6kg/cm
4.cross breaking strength:1.4-2.0kg/cm
5.Self ignition point:300oC

(ii) For models f1 & f3 the peak load was less
than the solid concrete beam. However the cracks
started developing in the shear zone and shear failure
accrued. No bending cracks was observed in both the
models.

VI.CONCLUSION
From the experimental investigation carried to
replace in beam with EPS sheets the following
conclusion can be drawn.
1. Addition of EPS in the beams
prevents the bending failure since EPS
sheets undergo large without failure.
2. However the shear failure shows
that EPS sheets does not provide the
necessary cross section to resist shear.
3. Hence replacing the core of
concrete with EPS in the middle zone of the
length of beam can be an effective solution
of concrete and effective behavior in
bending and shear.
