Summary of movie Pay it Forward
Reflection sheet: Pay it Forward…with Love

1. Overview

St. Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians said, “Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous
or boastful; love is not ill mannered or selfish and irritable; love does not keep a record of the
wrongs; love is not happy with evil but delights in the truth. Love never gives up. Love never
fails. Love is eternal. There are faith, hope and love and the greatest of these is love. (1 Cor 13).
Jesus told his disciples, I give you a new commandment: love one another (John 13:34) because
“Love is the fulfilment of the law (Romans 13:10). When you have love, you are no longer at the
mercy of forces greater than yourself, for you, yourself will become the powerful force (Leo
Buscaglia). Love is the will to extend oneself for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s
spiritual growth. (M. Scott Peck). In this module we will explore authentic love.

A person in love with someone or something is a person who can’t stop thinking about it. Always finding a way to get

Reflection Sheet

Pay it Forward… with Love.

Love can make the world of a difference for people who need it the most.
An act of love at the right time at right place can possibly save a person’s life.
This sheet is your own way of paying forward the many acts of love given to
us by God, our family, people we hold dear, and those whose lives we affect
one way or the other. On the space provided, make a plan to make a specific
good deed for at least three people. (You may do more good deeds for more
people if you wish). Make your plan practical and achievable. As this is
private, include all the details you need including a time frame if possible to
make your plans work. Keep this sheet of paper so that you will be reminded
of your still to be done good deeds and so it can continue to inspire you to do
more acts of love every day. Who knows, you might just change the world
after making one secret good deed.

1. My Family (parent, siblings, relative):

For my family I will achieve my dream and make them proud. My dream is to be a successful person so
that I can help my family. The secret part I s

2. A special Friend:
For a Special friend I will help them in their needs, help them move forward at the same pace. I will
never leave the person behind me, we will always be equal, we will face any challenge side by side

3. Someone you do not know but can use your help:

First I will identify his/her problem then I will help in any way I can, giving him a little bit of
money, offering her food, maybe even letting him/her stay at my place. Basically the same as they
did at pay it forward
b. Analysis
Write a reflection based on these questions
1. Am I a loving person to all?
Not to all. I love people who I can trust and call my friend. The ones that I don’t love are
the ones who hurt them.

2. How can I demonstrate the value of love in my family?

• By following them and their good deed and showing the world that they raised a
good kid.

3. How can I be a more loving person for others?

• By helping others In need like donating to charity and also respecting people of
their decisions as well as setting the m to the right path.

4. What benefits can I possibly reap from being a loving person?

Usually a loving person almost has no enemy, and from my experience in war games, having
more allies than enemies will decrease the casualty. So from that it is better to friendly and
loving to other people to not cause many enemy.
c. Abstraction
Let us see more how significant this love could be. Read the following anecdote.

Love
Andrew Maria Almonte, MMHC

While the old Gahardin lay dying, an angel appeared to him in a dream and revealed a heavenly
secret.

“Gahardin,” the angel told him, “The Divine Judge will ask you only one question at your
judgment. If you fail to answer it rightly you’ll risk losing your salvation.”

“What is the question?” “That’s for you to find you, “answered the angel and then left the
bewildered Gadarhin.

Immediately, upon waking up from the dream, Gadarhin surprised his acquaintances when he ask
for theological books.

Wanting to gain additional knowledge, he spent each day studying the books. He thought this was
the best preparation to answer God’s question at his Judgment.

Finally, Gahardin died and immediately an angel took his soul before the Throne of God.
Trembling before the Divine Judge, he heard the question:
“How much have you loved me and your fellowmen?”

What is the message of the story?

The message was no matter how much knowledge you attain, how much time you sacrificed on

your research, how much you work on something. Loving others will always be the most important

value that everyone must attain.

Describe love briefly
Love is an emotion that we humans have. It lets us help other people in need, helps us feel sympathy, it helps us become human.

What kind of life do you think you have if there is no love?

A blank, Bleak world. The only thing that makes us human will be gone and it will just turn us into your everyday animal, the world will turn
into a colorless one
Indeed, love encompasses everything. It is a value from which the other values were based
to form and develop a good person. It is a decision here, now and forever. A commitment to action
and an intellectual and thoughtful decision. Love entails responsibility, sacrifice and service; it is
simply doing good for others. If love is real it never stops reaching out no matter what the situation
is. Real love is one that shares, trusts, cares, respect, accepts and forgives.

It is the key to our nation’s progress. It will encourage our people to be committed to serve
and be concerned for each other’s well being, making true the pledge of mamamayan muna bago
ang sarili… mamamayang hindi makasarili.

The law of love surpasses every other law. It presupposes justice but it goes beyond justice.
The true measure of love is, loving without measure and the test of right love is loving without
reason.

d. Progress Check

Now that you know what love is

1. Evaluate the way you regard and express the value of love with the people around you
(Family, elder friends, ordinary people)
The Way I express love to the people around me Is first respecting their own actions as long as they do good and not harm others. For my
friends I will show them how meaningful they are by helping them in their needs and showing the world they can be trusted. For my family i
will prove to the world that this family is the reason I am here today, they will be the cause of my success and share that success with them.
That is the only way I can repay the ones I love.

2. In your own capacity what acts can you perform towards the following:
Children: Help them by teaching them sympathy just like what they did
at pay it forward
Siblings/Cousins: I will act like a proper sibling/cousin, I will protect
them from anything that may harm them or their future
Friends: I will Help them succeed in life the same how they help me, I
will show them I can also be a good friend
Acquaintances: I will befriend them make them know I am a good
person by being always there for them like a friend
Fellow Filipinos: I will stay true to my nation and will never abandon it

3. Reflect on your daily acts and how you affect the lives of the people around you in the
course of performing your own duties.
I don’t affect them much since there are a lot of people. But for my family, me working hard gives them a sense of relief knowing that I will become
successful.
4. Draw a scenario where the real essence of love is shown.

In this drawing it show the scenario that literally means love, marriage, it literally is an event about two person in love and wanting
to immortalize that love. For me it is the real essence of love. Where two people who are madly in love with each other will be
together for all their life
