STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
"Concern for man and his fate must always form the chief interest of all technical endeavors ...
Never forget this in the midst of your diagrams and equations".
To skim through these quotes daily, said by one of the greatest minds ever, made my mind
incline towards a goal that thrives in achieving perfection in whatever field I choose. Basically
interested in anything amazing in my vicinity, my enthusiasm towards electrical field geared
attention when I started solving basic electrical circuits during my higher secondary education.
Moreover, my fascination for electrical engineering arose from a growing awareness of the
technological advances permeating the world around me. My goal is to develop into a proficient
electrical engineer with profound knowledge and to productively translate the technical cognition
into practicable applications that will benefit the society. For this very reason, I aspire to pursue
Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at your estimable university.
I belong to a family who believe that education is essential for the betterment of life. Parental
guidance along with their blessings helped me to come out with flying colors in my academic
career. I did my schooling from Vadodara. Since my schooling times, I have shown keen interest
in the subjects of mathematics and science, which have enhanced my analytical and quantitative
skills. These are my areas of strength and have helped me to score 82.77% and 75% in my 10th
grade and 12th grade respectively. I secured the admission in one of the most prestigious institute
of Gujarat named Babaria Institute of Technology(affiliated with Gujarat Technological
University and approved by AICTE Delhi). I chose Electrical Engineering as my undergraduate
major. Throughout my undergraduate program, I have maintained an excellent academic record,
that is, acquiring CGPA 8.49 out of 10. I also cleared competitive exam called GATE(Graduate
Aptitude Test In Engineering)- an exam that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of
various undergraduate subjects in engineering which is jointly conducted by Indian Institute of
Science and Indian Institute of Technology.
My undergraduate curriculum has given me a comprehensive exposure to numerous courses that
I found interesting-namely Electrical Machines, Signals and Systems, Analog and Digital
Electronics, Power System, Power Electronics, Switchgears, Control Theory and many more. A
Master degree in Electrical Engineering is the next logical step wherein learning practically and
obtaining path breaking results through experimentation would play a prime importance.
During my college days I made visits to industrial sites for gaining the industrial knowledge in
my chosen field. My industrial visits to gigantic units such as Hydro power station at Navagam
(Sardar Sarovar Dam) and Adani Power Plant proved to be a cornerstone in my career. During
these visits, senior engineer of company made me realize the vastness and scope of the Electrical
Technology. My discussions with them convinced me that specializing in Electrical will suit me
very well.
As participation is more important than winning, I participated in various events as a part of
extracurricular activities. I took part in the event of FootprintsX4( National Level Technical
Festival) held at Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara. I was also active participant in the
events of Aahvan( Technical Festival) organized at Babaria Institute of Technology. In addition
to this, I attended many seminars during my college days to improve my depth of knowledge in
the field. Apart from this, I have obtained basic knowledge of electrical related softwares like
MATLAB(Matrix Laboratory) and Keil, knowledge of microprocessor 8085. In my research, I
had presented a research paper entitled “Inspection of Cable and Detection of Fault of
Transmission Line By Robot” at International Conference on Recent Trends in Engineering and
Technology(ICRTET-2015) under the guidance of Dr. Dipesh Patel, Head of Department of
Electrical. Moreover, I got acceptance letter for publishing my paper titled Maximum Utilization
of Solar Energy in International Journal of Emerging Technology and Advanced Engineering.
My other interests include sports, music, movies and reading. I pursue my interest in Cricket and
Badminton. I enjoy cooking and make sure that I sharpen my culinary skills whenever I get time.
Not forgetting my duty towards the society, I regularly participate in community services too.
I had done in-plant training in my final year of Electrical Engineering at Indian Oil Corporation
Limited, a leading petroleum company. I got information of various plants of the company like
TPS( Thermal Power Station), CRU (Catalytic Reforming Unit), AU(Automatic Unit) and many
more. I saw the line diagram of the TPS plant where power was generated. Moreover, there was
an Electrical Workshop where I got to know the basic terminologies of motor, generator ,
transformer and how oil of transformer is purified. My guide during the training helped me a lot
by solving the queries.
During my final year of my bachelor’s degree I undertook a project titled “Inspection of
Transmission Line Using Robot”. It had various sensors, ATMEGA16 microcontroller, LED for
indication, buzzer and many other devices. Our( I and my group mate) aim was to make a robot
so that manual inspection can be eradicated as it is time consuming and risky. We used
BASCOM as a compiler and STK500 as a loader. We successfully completed our project on time
under the guidance of Ms. Dinal Panchal, Assistant Professor, Electrical Engineering
Department.
Having done an inspiring four-year course in Electrical Engineering, I would like to put to use
this knowledge to do my Master in Science. This would give me the leading edge in technology
and the practical low-down and information I require. I believe that education system of United
States of America will be the best for me. USA has set a very high standard and rigorous quality
control which promises that I can well earn a high quality education that will open doors for
future prospects and career over a long term. Also it has developed a top-notch education system.
American culture is very diverse and vibrant. It is considered as a peaceful and safe country.
Being a country of immigrants from all over the World, different perspectives are respected and
learning together is encouraged.
University of South Florida (USF) is a top tier research university as per the Carnegie
classification of Institutions of Higher Education. USF is perfect for my aptitude and my
academic goals. The well-qualified and experienced faculties, excellent laboratory facilities and
exceptional research work would provide me with an ideal platform for achieving my goals. I
look upon the Electrical program here as an avenue to hone my skills and to help me reach the
culmination of my career. By pursuing graduate program at your estimable university will
ultimately help me to provide vital contributions to society and work in a way to expedite the
advancement and betterment of humanity as a whole.
