"SPORTS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT: SAFETY BEFORE LEISURE TIME"
The webinar is all about Sports and Recreation Department which is entitled “safety before
leisure time.” It was shared by Miss Koreen Therese Olitres with a degree of BS in Management from
University of Philippines Cebu. She worked at Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort for 3 years and 7
months. By the help of her knowledge we will learn on what sports and recreation is all about and why it
is important. We will also learn what are the duties and Responsibilities, the planning and
implementation. On what are the recreational Activities they offered? The CARES program in bluewater
and the changes adopted by the Resort to address health Protocols and Requirements.
Sports and Recreation is a pursuit of leisure activities and experiences during one’s free time.
Experiences or organized activities that you actively participate in with others, to have fun and enjoy life.
Some recreational activities can be classified as sports. In Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort they have 2
types of recreation which are categorized as outdoors and indoors recreation. In outdoors they have
swimming pools and beaches, aqua sports, outdoor sports, and nature-related activities. While indoors
they have spa and salon, Gym, and kids club which can really help tourists who want to be fit and love
doing recreational activities. This sports and recreational activities is handled and distributed to the
outlets or department which is fit to the skills and area. The Swimming pools and beach, Aqua sports are
handled by Safety and Security Department since safety is at more high risk and requires person who
has higher skills and required 24 hours security. The spa, salon and gym are handled by Amuma Spa
which focuses on guests who go to spas and wants to feel relaxed. While kids club, outdoor sports,
nature-related activities are handled by Dolpo Kids club which the speaker are assigned to handle it.
Dolpo kids club which has a legend of 7 dolphins who are friends of lapu-lapu and help him save the
island from conquers. In the resorts they are not just catering guests who are adults but also they also
promote family, friends and anyone young and old, they are consider a very important guests. In dolpo
kids club they also categorized outdoors and indoors recreation. They also offer monthly special
activities like easter Sunday, Halloween events and Christmas events.
The Duties and Responsibilities: Planning and implementation has things to consider the
Mission, Vision, Values, target Market, Trends, Availability of Resources and most importantly the
Safeness. During this pandemic we are facing right now a lot of safety precautions are being
implemented not just by the organizations but also within the hotels and resorts. So, in Bluewater Beach
Resort they have a safety measure which they called it Bluewater CARES program. A safety program in
the resort wherein they ensure upon entering the guests to the resort they all have the basic safety
equipment’s or scanning like the washing areas, temperature check and health consent form. The guests
are also required to wear face mask inside the resort unless they are in the pool, beach or eating. The
staffs also required to do disinfection in the resort after guests leave the room or table. The resort is
very cautious regarding to safety protocols and regulations from local and national government to
ensure that they are following on what is ask by the law.
In conclusion, this webinar entitled "Sports and Recreation Department: Safety before Leisure
Time" had given me more knowledge about the Sports and Recreation specifically in Bluewater
Maribago Beach Resort. I have discovered that they offered many kinds of recreational Activities not
only for adults but also for kids who wants to enjoy and have fun. In spite of the worldwide pandemic
which really affects the hotels and resorts, bluewater still managed to operate it with safety protocols
implemented.
