QUESTIONS
What motivates you to want to become a member of the Byron School Board?
We have an amazing school district and would be honored to be part of continuing to improve for
the future generations.

What experiences do you have in school committees, leadership groups, or governance

boards that would help you to be an effective school board member?
I have served on multiple boards and in leadership groups such as; Special Olympics, BNI, Karen
Chandler Trust (cancer charity foundation board) and have been involved in numerous community
and non-profit organizations

What do you see as the Board’s roles and responsibilities?

To put education first while maintaining our fiscal responsibility to the district. In the current climate,
not everyone can agree on how to best bring our children together. It's imperative to be able to have
the vision to accomplish short term objectives to achieve the long term goal of offering our students
the best possible education.

What is your vision for education in Byron Public Schools?

Byron Public Schools has a tremendous standing and foundation for education in our community.
It's why most of us live in Byron - for our kids. The vision is to build on the existing foundation (what
we have is working well) while bringing in more technology options as they come available and
finding new ways to implement on the job training for our students as they prepare to enter the
employment world.

What are the current challenges facing Byron Public Schools and how would you
propose to face those challenges?

The obvious leader of the challenges is Covid and the appropriate way to continue our way through
the struggles it's causing in our community and around the world. While there is no clear answer
here, following the advice of medical professionals and the input from our residents is going to be
key. Funding is another challenge - the district and the teachers will never have all the funding
necessary to accomplish all the desired improvements for our student body. Being at the forefront
of implementing new funding drives would be a big part of my goals.

Being a school board member can be challenging in regards to time and feeling
pressure from community members. How will you balance your time and personal views
to be an effective Board member?
Nobody will ever have enough time in the day. At some point, each person will need to find what
works for them. I'm in a position that allows me freedom to be available during most daytime hours,
as well as, my evenings during the school year. I don't think there's a correct answer here, as it may
be difficult to lay out a plan without the full knowledge of the expectations. With my flexibility during
the work day and my understanding family and their full support, it's a matter of prioritizing each
days events. My personal views will always impact decisions, (that's what makes us who we are), but
not to the point that the big picture is diminished by my views.

What do you hope to accomplish during your interim term on the Board?
I hope to continue the great legacy which is Byron Public Schools while bringing to light more real
world experiences. As an employer, we see every year how little experience most students have with
job skills and sometimes social interaction. This is something that I'd like to see begin to grow during
my interim term.
