Poem
“Don’t’ Let it Come to this” lets us visualize a person giving up on life and taking away her life as her
parents come into the picture and she realizes that they loved her. In poem, the anonymous writer’s word choice
right away involves the reader for he constantly used the word ‘you’ and asked whether the reader has noticed
the signs that a suicidal person was revealing. This is effective because through the emphasis of the word “you”,
the poet enables us to reflect on the people around us and whether we are paying attention to any slight changes
that indicate that they are struggling. The author uses a morose tone which sort of makes us feel remorseful for
not being able to truly care for the person enough to realize the pain they’ve been holding inside. To conclude,
in the poem, the writer asks, ‘How can you cry for someone that you don’t even know?’ This choice of words
really caught my attention because it made me wonder whether I truly know my loved ones. It is effective
because it makes readers ponder whether we are truly being there for one another and if we truly know each
other to the point that we can realize when they are hurting, so that we can help them build up their walls back
again.

Lastly the “Suicide Awareness Video” begins with a girl whose facial expression expresses that she’s in
a state of confusion and the entire video is in black and white to highlight the sadness. As the video proceeds
she is being called several names which in a way enrages us for we become aware that she is going through
bulling. The song that is the background plays at a slow pace to set the mood as the girl rushes into her room
locks the door and desperately throws herself on the bed. She gets up rushes into the bathroom and without
delaying she fills the bath tub and goes in where she over doses herself with pills and waits patiently to fade
away as her reader longs for her to change her mind. She leaves a note that stated “I’m sorry” which is quite
ironic because it’s the people that led her to this point that were supposed to be sorry. As the video closes the
viewer is asked how it feels to be the cause of the death which enables us to reflect on our past decisions and
slightly makes us want to aim for being better people.

The first piece of information I gathered regarding cyberbullying and finding a solution is “Ten Steps to Deal
with Cyberbullying”. While reading the passage I rarely came across words I did not comprehend. I still
managed to find a few. The first word which I was not familiar to were ‘aggravate’, ’presume’, and ‘posing’. At
first I was confused as to what the author meant, but after looking the meaning and usage of these words I came
to understand why they were used. In the passage I did not encounter any jargons nor slangs due to the passage
being straightforward and easily understood by young persons, this is essential to his work because a young
person [the true audience] will understand what he means and take some knowledge and advice on how to deal
with the problem. The words were used correctly and were able to convey the message clearly.
Picture
Artefact 3 which is a picture of a woman who is making a sandwich and who is looking threatening with a
knife shows the sense of humour of the creator. The author uses colour to captivate the audience’s attention.
The use of the red in the ketchup and the black and white colour of the background makes the mood gloomy.
However, the word choice which is contradictory to the scene makes the picture effective. It says “if a woman
pulls out a knife during an argument. Pull out some bread. Her woman instincts will kick in and she will make
you a sandwich.” It effectively uses humour to trick the audience into agreeing with their point because without
even thinking it is degrading women. Once you analyse it you will notice how it devalues the woman in the
picture. This also gives us an insight of how bad the issue is, given that these kinds of jokes are circulating through
social media and getting tons of likes.
