Acquaintance With Different Equipments Used in Fish Processing Laboratory
Fish processing laboratory helps us to know chemical composition of fish and determine
the degree of spoilage of fish. Different types of equipments used in fish processing
laboratory are given below:
Oven
Muffle furnace
Desiccators
Kjeldahl apparatus
Soxhlet apparatus
Ph meter

Distilled water plant

Stirrer
Electronic balance
Crucible
Muffle furnace: Muffle furnace is used to determine the ash content of fish by
maintaining temperature at 550°C for 6 hours.
Soxhlet apparatus: it is used to determine the lipid content of any sample. it has
three parts:
Round bottom flask
Main body
Condenser
Ph meter: it is used to determine the ph of the sample.
Hot plate: hot plate is used to heat the sample. It is a normal heater which has a
covering and a metal plate. The sample is kept on the metal plate to heat.
Distilled water plant: it is used to prepare distill water which is used in various
experiment.
Stirrer: stirrer is a rod like structure which is used for homogenous mixing of the
solution.
Electronic Balance: Balance is used to weight the sample accurately. The weight of
very small amount of sample can be determined by electronic balance. It is also
called sensitive balance.
Ice plant: it is used to prepare ice block in different size. A tube is attached with ice
box which supply the continuous water in ice box during ice preparation.
