This document provides instructions for preparing 0.05M or 0.1M EDTA solution and standardizing it. It describes weighing EDTA, dissolving it in water to make the solution. It then describes standardizing the solution by titrating it against calcium carbonate using an indicator. The molarity of the EDTA solution is calculated based on the amount of calcium carbonate and volume of EDTA used. Safety precautions like controlling temperature, using masks and gloves are also listed.

Process Description Method Information. Machine TG:N/A Reference Number: Dept. Name & Rev. No. 00 OKP for the preparation of ASTM E200 Calibration Number: Section SOP Source: EDTA(0.05M or 0.1 M) & Its Quality Control/IQC standardization Chemical
Operational Key Point
EDTA Solution preparation: 1. Take about 100 ml of water in a cleaned & dried 1000 ml Volumetric flask. 2. Add about 37.2 gm of EDTA( For 0.1M) & 18.6 g of EDTA ( For 0.05M) with continues stirring & add more about 700 ml of water mix. 3.Make up the volume 1000 ml with water. Mix the solution throughly & keep the solution for at least 1 hour & then carry out the standardization. Standardization Procedure: 1) Weigh accurately about 400 mg of Calcium carbonate(Previously dried at 110 degree for about 2 hours). 2) Transfer it in a cleaned & dried 500 ml conical flask & add about 10 ml of water with gently stirring to form the slurry. 3) Dissolve the carbonate in 2 ml of 3 N HCl & shake well until it dissolves. Add 100 ml water through the inner surface of the flask with the strring the solution. 4)Add 30 ml of 0.1 M EDTA or 0.05 M from the burette with constant stirring & add 15 ml of NaOH(1N) solution with constant stirring. Add 300 mg Hydroxy Napthol blue solution as an indicator . 5)Add 0.1 M or 0.05 M EDTA with constant stirring & titrate it until the solution gives a blue colour. Calculation :Calculate the molarity of EDTA Solution as follows: M =W/100.09V Where, M=Molarity of EDTA Solution W=Miligram of calcium carbonate in the sample of Calcium carbonate taken. V= ML of EDTA Solution consumed. Stability: Restandardize Monthly.
1. Control the room temperature At 25°C .
2. Use safety Mask when chemical is Used. 3. Put on Hand Gloves when clean & chemical used in laboratory. 4. Read and understand all the instructions mentioned in the process manual before the test.
