FLIGHT PROCEDURES
IFR Flights-Aircraft within Class B airspace are required to operate in accordance with
current IFR procedures.
VFR Flights-
a. Arriving aircraft or aircraft desiring to transit Class B airspace should contact Approach
Control on the frequency depicted for the sector of flight with reference to the geographical
center of airport. Pilots should state, on initial contact, their position, direction
of flight and destination. If holding a VFR aircraft is required, the holding point will be
specified by ATC and will be a prominent geographical fix, landmark or VOR radial/s.
b. Aircraft departing the primary airport are requested to advise the Philadelphia clearance
delivery position prior to taxiing of the intended route of flight and altitude. Aircraft
departing from other than the primary airport should give this information on appropriate
ATC frequencies if route penetrates Class B airspace.
c. Aircraft desiring to transit Class B airspace will obtain clearance on an equitable
"first-come, first-served" basis, providing the requirements of FAR 91 are met.

Integrated Deicing Service (IDS) controls the Deicing Facility and associated areas.
All communication between aircraft and IDS occurs via VHF radio.
The PHL CDF is an Engines Running Deicing (ERD) facility. To expedite the deicing process, aircraft
should be configured for deicing prior to entering the CDF whenever possible.
1. AT GATE: Before pushback, contact Ramp Tower and advise "Deicing Required".
2. ON PUSHBACK: Ramp Tower will issue taxi instructions then will hand off to Ground at spot 2 for
CDF entry points:
-SPOT 1 on Taxiway Juliet
-Taxiway Kilo short of Cargo Ramp

PAD ENTRY - PAD CONTROL - VHF 129.575


3. Approaching entry points, contact PAD CONTROL on 129.575 with the following information:
-Call Sign & Flight Number
-AC Type & Registration
-Position in sequence
4. Pad Control will issue holding or taxi instructions and provide frequency and instructions for
contact ICEMAN.
-No exchange of specific deicing requirement is necessary at this time.
-All AC with slot assignments must vacate Twy Z to accomodate unimpeded traffic
flow on Twy Z.

DEICING - ICEMAN - VHF 128.875, 129.275, 129.675, 130.675


5. Aircraft will be guided into the correct position in their assigned slot.
When ready for deiceing, contact ICEMAN with:
-Brakes Set, Aircraft Configured
-Required Treatment
6. Deicing Complete: ICEMAN will issue post-application information and confirm that equipment
and personnel are clear of the aircraft. After read-back, ICEMAN will advise aircraft to hold position
and contact PAD CONTROL on 129.575 for taxi instructions.

EXIT - PAD CONTROL VHF 129.575


CAUTION: DO NOT MOVE AIRCRAFT UNTIL PAD CONTROL ISSUES VERBAL CLEARANCE
7. Flight crews will contact PAD CONTROL and advise "READY FOR TAXI".
8. PAD CONTROL will issue exit instructions and clear aircraft to taxi. Aircraft will follow taxi
instructions and taxi to hold short of Twy Sierra. When number one in line, flight crews will contact
PHL Ground on 121.9 or 121.65 for onward clearance.

-AC Type & Registration
-Position in Sequence
4. Iceman will issue onward instructions on Taxiway Foxtrot for Spots 5 and 6 OR
Holding instructions on Taxiway Foxtrot short of Taxiway Kilo with an assignment for Spots 1, 2 or 3.

DEICING
For spots 5 & 6 Continue with IceMan on 129.075 and confirm visual contact with Marshaller.
For Spots 1, 2 & 3 Aircraft will "HOLD SHORT" of Taxiway K and contact Ground Control on
121.9 with the Spot number for transition via Kilo to the assigned Spot. On receipt of
clearance from ATC proceed to the assigned spot while monitoring IceMan on 128.975 to
confirm visual contact with the marshaller.
5. Aircraft maybe guided to the correct position by more than one marshaller due to the space
restrictions. When ready for deice, Aircraft will confirm "Brakes Set, Aircraft Configured and
Required Treatment".
6. Deicing Complete - IceMan will issue deicing report and confirm equipment and personnel are clear
of the aircraft. After Readback, IceMan will advise aircraft to hold position and contact Ground
Control on 121.9 for exit.

NOTE: EXPEDITE DEPARTURE PROCESS TO VACATE THE SPOT


EXIT - Ground Control - VHF 121.9
7. Flight crews will contact Ground Control and advise "ready to taxi".

The scrolling arrows indicate that the RED
system is activated.

Follow the lead in line.


YELLOW YELLOW
When the solid yellow stopping position
indicator appears, the aircraft has been
caught by the scanning unit. The scanning STOP STOP
unit now checks that the aircraft is the
correct type and the display provides
azimuth guidance information.

Look for the flashing red arrow and solid


yellow arrow which provide azimuth
guidance information. RED

The flashing red arrow shows which


direction to steer, while the solid yellow
arrow gives an indication of how far the YELLOW YELLOW
aircraft is off of the centerline.

STOP STOP

When the aircraft is 12 m from the stop


position, closing rate information is given.
"Distance to run" is indicated by turning
off one row of LED's for each one-half meter

that the aircraft advances toward the stop
position.
YELLOW RED
When the correct stop position is reached,
all of the LED's in the stopping position
indicator will be closed, the word "STOP"
appears in the display and two red STOP STOP
rectangular fields will light in the azimuth
guidance area of the display.

If the aircraft stops in the correct position,


"OK" will be displayed after a few seconds. OK TOO FAR
If the aircraft has gone past the correct stop
position, the display will show "TOO FAR". RED

STOP STOP
The aircraft type must be verified at least
12 m before the correct stop position. If
this does not occur, the system displays
"STOP" with two red rectangular fields
being lit in the azimuth guidance area of the
display. While the aircraft is stopped, the
WAIT STOP
system will attempt to verify it. If successful,
the docking procedure will continue. If an
unverified object is found in the scanning area RED
during docking, the system will show "WAIT".
When the object has disappeared, the procedure
will be resumed.
