IN exercise of the powers conferred by sections 29 and 66 of


the Occupational Safety and Health Act Lgg4 tAct 51'41., the

M.inister makes the following regulations:


Application

;i These Regulations shall apply to-

(a) a person who acts as a safety and health officer required


und"er the Act or any regulations made under the Act; and

(b) &il €,rnployer of the class or description of industries who


are required to employ safety and health officer under the
Act.

The Occup:ational Safety and Health (Safety and


Health Officer) Regulations 1997 which came into
force on zz August LggZ requires that certain
industries to employ a competent safeff and health
officer to resolve matLers pertaining to the safety and
health at their workplace.

Workplaces that require the services of SHO:

,$ Building operation: Exceeding RM 2om

* Works of engineering construction: Exceeding RM 2om

c Shipbuilding: Employrng rnore than 1oo workers at peak of


operations
o Gas processing or petrochemical industry : with more than 1oo
workers

o Boiler or pressure vessel manufacturing activity: with rnore


than 1oo workers

Duties of SHO:

o Advise employer on measures to be taken in interest of


OSH in the workplace
