Introduction To English Language Teaching
1. The Grammar-Translation method rarely offered contextualization of the text. Thinking about what you have
learned up to now, how could this hinder language acquisition?
Grammar is at the forefront of this learning method, and students are repeatedly drilled on these concepts.
Another feature of this learning method is the vocabulary word list, which was frequently taught by memorising.
This learning method prioritises reading and writing skills but leaves students behind when it comes to
conversing. It is far preferable to work on improving one's speaking and listening skills, as well as one's ability to
use the language in a variety of contexts and tasks. Grammar can be learned by repeatedly hearing the target
language, but it can also be a narrow focus later in the learning process. As a result, various methods for
improving one's speaking, listening, and communication skills can be used. Students can be encouraged to use the
language in a variety of contexts and tasks rather than being taught about it. Grammar can sometimes take a
back seat to comprehension. It is now more commonly learned inductively through repeated exposure to the
target language rather than explicitly taught.
2. In some schools in which the direct method is the only form of instruction, students are not allowed to speak in
their rst language whatsoever. Thinking about what you have learned up to now, how could this hinder language
instruction?
This, I believe, may slow down language instruction because it is suggested that you try your hardest to forget
everything you know about your rst language and not apply it to the new language that you are learning. Simply
put, the direct method is a teaching method that only uses the target language. This has some drawbacks, such as
the learner's failure to connect words from their native tongue to the target language. As a result of the rather
challenging learning style, slow learners continue to encounter more challenges here
