purpose of the speaker/writer.

II. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT

There are many reasons why people write paragraphs, lines, stories,
poems, or songs. It is important to know the writer’s purpose so you will
have a clear understanding of the written text.
There are three main purpose or reasons for writing:

• To entertain – to give laughter or enjoyment.


Examples of text written to entertain are:
stories, poems, dramas, songs

• To inform – to enlighten or give information about a topic.


Examples of texts written to inform are:
essays or articles, instructions or directions, encyclopedias,
or other reference texts

• To persuade – to encourage the reader to


take action or to convince them.
Examples: Advertisements, campaign speeches, persuasive
letters, or notes

Infer the purpose of the situations. Write E if the purpose is to
entertain, I if to inform, and P if to persuade. Write your answer on
your answer sheet.
________1. Enrolment for school year 2020-2021 will start on
June 1, 2020 until August 21, 2020.

________ 2. A fox saw a crow fly off with a piece of cheese on its
beak and settle on a branch of a tree. He started
playing tricks to the bird so he could have the
cheese.

________3. The school administrator and teachers explained well


to the parents that they will be very strict in imposing
social distancing and wearing face mask. They
assured everyone that they will put safety of the
students first all the time to convince parents to
enroll their children.

________4. How to make gelatin: put the gelatin powder in a


casserole with 6 cups of tap water. Cook it in a
medium fire stirring constantly. Add sugar to taste.
Remove from fire if it nearly boils. Pour in molds and
let it cool.

is intended for the family who are greatly affected by
the COVID 19 crisis.

1. The human skeletal system is consist of all the bones in the
human body. It gives support to the body, allows it to move in
different ways and protects some body organs.

money, from the sales of the milk, she can buy dress to envy

The blue part stands for common harmony and the
good desires of the Filipino people. The red part
symbolizes the bravery of Filipinos to fight against our
enemy. The white part stands for purity.
