A project has been implemented to modify Sepam to more closely adhere to ANSI requirements:
• Create US English language files to be downloaded into the relays which will show ANSI terminology and symbols.
• Brand label Sepam to Square D from Merlin Gerin
• Change IEC documents to ANSI documents using ANSI terminology and symbols.
• Change configuration software (SFT2841) to allow selection of US English which will use ANSI terminology and symbols in the
configuration screens and help files
Square D branding of Sepam relays is intended to take advantage of the Square D brand identity in the U.S. and Canadian market. In
addition, creation of ANSI documentation including manuals, catalogs, software, data sheets, etc. will provide information in the
format most recognized in the market.
Replacement of the CCA630 with the CCA634 CT connector will provide connection to zero sequence CT’s for direct measurement
of ground fault current without the need for the CSH30 remote mount option.
2. Product presentation
The Sepam (Square D Electrical Protection and Monitoring) range of protection relays is designed for all protection applications on
medium-voltage public and industrial distribution networks.
Each Sepam series offers all the functions required for the intended application to provide protection of life and property, accurate
measurements, detailed system diagnosis, integral equipment control, and local or remote indications and operation.
For each application, Sepam offers the relay suited to the protection needs of the electrical system. The Sepam range covers the
following applications:
• substations (main or feeder type)
• transformers
• motors
• generators
• bus
• capacitors.
Sepam Series 20 and 40 relays have a wide control power range; 24-250Vdc, 110/240Vac. Series 20 relays are current or voltage
relays. Series 40 relays are current and voltage relays. Each has relay base has four relay outputs, two of which are ANSI rated
control outputs 01, 02 and two status outputs 03, 04. They incorporate a modular design which allows the user to configure the relay
to meet his specific requirements. Option modules available are: communications, RTD temperature, Analog output, input/output,
remote display. See diagram below.

Sepam Series 80 relays accept 24-250Vdc control power. They are used for high-end protection including transformer, motor,
generator, and machine differential applications. Each has relay base has five relay outputs, two of which are ANSI rated control
outputs 01, 02 and three status outputs 03, 04, 05. They incorporate a modular design which allows the user to configure the relay to
meet his specific requirements. Series 80 relay incorporate an application memory module and a battery to maintain the clock and
event waveform captures upon control power failure. Option modules available are: communications, RTD temperature, Analog
output, input/output, remote display. See diagram below.
Features Benefits
Modularity Sepam’s modular design allows the user to select and pay for
only those options and functions required for the application.
Series 20/40
• 10 inputs / 8 outputs
(1 MES114/E/F modules)
• 1 analog output
• 1 Modbus communication ports
• Temperature RTD inputs
o Series 20: 8 inputs
o Series 40: 16 inputs
• Control Power 24-250Vdc, 110/240Vac
Series 80
Features Benefits
Multiple display options
This display provides multiple lines of information including:
Series 80
w/Mimic UMI
Ease of installation and removal All Sepam relays mount using spring clips. CT connectors, I/O
modules, and connectors can be easily removed from the relay
without disturbing field wiring. Other option modules (comms,
RTD, Analog output) are connected to the base relay using pre-
fabricated cables. The base relay can then be easily replaced and
the option modules re-attached.
Features Benefits
Same form factor and options for all applications in same Series Each Sepam relay series support several applications depending
upon the catalog number selected.
Within the same series, the relay has the same form factor,
connector architecture, installation, option modules, and
operation regardless of the application. This improves
understanding of the relays in that wiring, installation, and
operation are the same for a transformer relay as a generator
relay, as a motor relay, etc.
Waveform and event capture All Sepam relays provide waveform/event capture capabilities.
This provides the user with the ability to view voltage, current,
and I/O states before, during, and after the event. Event time
and cause are quickly determined to minimize system
troubleshooting, repair, and ultimately downtime.
Logic Equation Editor (Series 40/80) This function can be used to configure simple logic functions by
combining data received from the protection functions or logic
inputs. By using logic operators (AND, OR, XOR, NOT) and
time delays, new processing operations and indications can be
added to the existing ones.
One commissioning software common for all Sepam relays SFT2841 software is used to program and commission all
Sepam relays regardless of the series or application. It is a
Microsoft Windows based package that is easy to use with
context sensitive help.
4. Marketing objectives
The goal is to position Schneider Electric as a recognized supplier of MV protective relays in the U.S. and Canadian ANSI market.
This will be accomplished by:
Working with CES to get Sepam specified by consulting engineers
Senior Application Engineers to provide quotation, application, and system design support
Expand Technical Support capabilities
Training programs for Field Sales, PMO BDS, Field Service Sales, Field Service techs, and customers.
5. Product Positioning
5.1 Customer target
Any company or facility with MV distribution systems is a candidate for Sepam relays.
