PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT!

CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFT
The catalytic converter is a critical component of your cars exhaust system. Thieves are
targeting these components for the precious metals contained inside.
Spot catalytic converter theft in your neighborhood.
Call 911 if you:
 Observe a vehicle double-parked in the street July 5th- August 12th
 See a car jacked up with an individual lying underneath it
Must provide proof of SCT residency, current medical, and photo I.D.
 Hear the sound of metal being cut
To prevent catalytic converter theft, use common sense and follow these tips:

• Park in well-lit areas

• Park close to building entrances or near a busy street

• Engrave your license plate number on the converter to make it traceable

• Purchase a vehicle security system and make sure it’s set to trigger with motion

• Examine different types of catalytic converter theft deterrent systems at your

BY: PAMELA STERN

Juneteenth is now a federal holiday, after President Biden signed

legislation that recognizes June 19th as the day that commemorates
the end of slavery in the United States.
Juneteenth is always celebrated on June 19th and symbolizes the
end of slavery in the United States. President Abraham Lincoln issued
the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862 but it was not
until June 19, 1865 that all slaves were finally freed. It was on June
19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Texas learned that they
were free. Although the Emancipation Proclamation declared that as of
Jan. 1, 1863, all slaves in rebellious Southern states were free, it took
more than two years for the news to spread to Texas and for officials
there to announce slavery had been abolished.
The holiday commemorating that day is now known as Juneteenth,
Freedom Day and/or Emancipation Day, as it marks the day all Black
people in the South were finally free. Slavery was outlawed nationwide

The Puerto Rican Day Parade Returns to NYC

BY AMANDA MOSES

The 65th Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade returned to

Manhattan after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus in epic fashion.
Thousands of New Yorkers donned traditional Puerto Rican
clothing and proudly waved their flags as Latino music
reverberated throughout the city streets.
Kicking off on 44th Street and Fifth Avenue, Governor Kathy
Hochul, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Attorney
General Letitia James, and other elected officials cut a red ribbon
signifying the return of the Puerto Rican Day parade.
Celebrities like Bad Bunny, Fat Joe and others rode on floats
as marchers danced and flew the Puerto Rican flag proudly.
The parade concluded on 79th Street and Fifth Avenue.
