1. Preface
Royal Commission for Jubail & Yanbu has awarded the contract of Corrosion Repair and
Protection Works, Contract No. 560-S28 to Saudi Withcon Co. Ltd., SWCL scope of work
include Repair of apron and wing wall of culvert C29-T218
This Method Statement provides information concerning the materials, equipment, tools and
manpower and methodology in compliance with contract requirements, drawings and technical
specification with safety and quality control.
2. Scope of Work
General description
Construction of Apron and Wing wall of culvert.

Work Methodology
1) Access Road
An access road will be provided for utility vehicle and heavy transportation for site
construction and a site laydown for storing the delivered materials required for the
project.
Install hard and soft barricades with rope line and warning tape around the work site.
To control the dust in access road, the road will be compacted and paved with gravel
or regular spraying of water will be provided.
There will be one way traffic in operation to access road, with a signed speed limit of
20kmph.

Provide hard barricading and roping line and warning sign near the slope of
demolished existing structure and excavated area, to aware the operator its limit and
to the worker/personnel on site. And install reverse stopper to prevent the vehicle
overrunning the edge of excavation
5) Dewatering System
As the bottom of wall foundation is probably lower than water table level, therefore
dewatering system is required and it is considering as an important part of the entire
execution. A well-point dewatering system will be installed as the primary means of
dewatering. A sump pit will also be made below the working elevation. The water
contained in the sump pit will be pumped out by operation of submersible pumps at
the bottom of pit. The outlet of the pump will flow towards within the vicinity where
location will be determined prior to planning.
6) Demolition of Damaged Wing wall, Bottom slab and Disposal of removed materials.

Survey will be conducted prior to demolition, once the damage is determined the
demolition proceed. Demolish damage structure by using jackhammer or breaker.
All materials resulting from demolition work or debris shall be removed on site by
using JCB and dump truck, then transport to the designated area approved by the
Royal Commission.
Trash and debris shall be removed by daily basis, and shall not be allowed to
accumulate either inside or outside the parameter of demolished area.
Trenches, holes, depressions, and pits form as a result of demolition operation shall
be filled with suitable backfill materials.
Inspect all vehicles for dirt prior to their departure from the site and remove dirt soil
and rubble likely to be dislodged from the vehicles during visit.
Load the trucks in a manner that prevents the dropping of soil and debris on the
streets. This includes securing and covering transport equipment and loose materials
to ensure that dust is not generated during transit.
Flagman/Banks man is the one directing the operation of the heavy equipment on the
site. Clear visibility and direct eye contact must be maintained between operator and
banks man at all times.
7) Installation of Formwork
Fabrication of steel mould as per attached drawing.
Preparation of steel mould for concrete pouring and for construction mock-up
sample.
Pre-inspection of Mock-up sample and to release the Hold Point.
Formwork will be installed as per attached drawing.

Coating of concrete for above the ground surface shall follow as per requirements.
Restore the work area and landscape to its original profile.
9) Site Welfare
Welfare facilities on site shall be provided liked rest areas, toilet or washrooms,
shaded area, chilled water dispensing area at designated area.
Construction Manager – will be the one to plan and coordinate all the activity in the
site and he will be responsible for coordinating with other contractor working in the
area.
Safety Personnel – will be the one to establish all necessary warning signs and
barricades establish the high risk areas in coordination with the Construction
Manager and constantly monitor the activity in terms of safety to all the workers.
Furthermore he will give advice on current and forecasted safety issues and concern.
Site Engineer - will be the one to implement the instruction of the Construction
Manager in the site, he will also directly supervise constantly the manpower and
equipment working in the area and implement all safety regulation and precaution set
by the safety personnel.
Quality Control Inspector – Will be the one to inspect and monitor the repaired
area before recommending to RC Engineer for inspection.
Supervisor – will be the one to supervise and assign the works as per schedule.
Carpenters – will be the one to install and remove the shuttering.
Mason – will be the one to perform the concrete works such as patching, surface
preparation and to install grouting.
Technician – will be the one to do application of the water proofing membrane.

All the manual workers that will be working in the site will be informed and reminded
by conducting morning tool box meeting in order to continuously remind them of the
existing safety risk and it will be handled by the designated site supervisor and
sometimes with the presence of the safety personnel.
The following are the safety procedure that will be implemented in case of accident.
In case of traffic accident or person hit by the equipment notify immediately the
police and emergency crew do not engage in moving the person who are injured.
Emergency contact numbers including Police, Ambulance and Industrial Security
will be prominently posted on bulletin board.
First Aid box will be readily available on site.
The following are the required permit before implementing the activity:

4. Quality Control
Request for Inspection of Work (RFI) shall be issued to RC Field Engineer 24 hours
in advance. RFI forms shall be issued.
