People
According to the 2020 Census, it has a population of 387,503. This amounted to 13.82
percent of the Caraga region's total population and 1.48 percent of the Mindanao island
group's overall population.
There are two common indigenous tribes that we can find in this province they are
Manobo and Mamanwa.
Agusan Manobo Tribe
The Agusan Manobo, sometimes known
as the Agusan, may be found in Agusan
del Norte, Agusan del Sur, and even
Surigao del Sur.
Mamanwa Tribe
The Mamanwa can be found in the highlands of
Southern Leyte, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del
Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Panaoan Island.
The Mamanwa tribe, which has a remarkable
physical similarity to the Negritos, is one of the Philippines' oldest and still surviving
tribes.
ECONOMY
Agusan Del Norte's economy is centered on agriculture, with rice, corn, coconut, and
fish being the main products. Wood goods, food processing, and handicraft production
are all examples of manufacturing.
LANGUAGE
Cebuano/Bisaya is the main language used in this province. One thing that is great in
most places in the Philippines, most of the people understand Tagalog (Filipino) and
English. While Umayam, Adgawan, Surigao, and Omayamnon are the four dialects
spoken by Manobo Tribe.
CULTURE
Greetings/ gesture in communicating with others
Filipino is known for their hospitality, and having a conversation with one
of them makes you feel very comfortable, so feel free and comfortable communicating
with the residents. Since most of the people in Agusan del Norte speaks in Cebuano or
Bisaya language, it is much easier when you know some simple common word use in
the province.
Ways of showing respect to elders
The greeting gesture is
called as 'mano,' which is
commonly translated as 'bless' in
English. Mano is done as a
gesture of respect for elders and
as a method of receiving a
blessing from them.
Courtship, marriage, and other important events
Traditional marriage practices in Agusan del Norte and Agusan del are
celebrated in the summer months of March to May. When the boy is between
the ages of seven and ten, courtship begins. When the children reach the age of
seventeen, the boy moves in with the girl's family to provide years of service.
When the girl accepts him, the boy goes home, and his parents appoint a "sakop"
(follower) to negotiate the girl's family's wedding date and dowry.
