SAQ 2
An official in basketball is a person responsible for spotting any rule violations and
enforcing the appropriate penalties in basketball. Officiating is vitally important to any
basketball game, as they help to ensure a level playing field that prevents either team from
having an unfair advantage. Effective and capable of officiating is a must in the successful
conduct of basketball. A really capable official is able to win confidence of players in no
time. It is equally essential for the players to repose unquestioned faith in the official.
Successful officiating is then of utmost importance in inculcating the spirit of the game and
to raise the level of officiating.
At any given time and while conducting a game, there are officials work. Until they
performed their assigned functions properly, officiating of the game cannot be conducted
successfully. The different officials perform functions within the ambit of Rules. It is the
essential that official must oversee the entire game and also observe the game critically. His
judgements should always be without prejudice.
SAQ 3
Match control is one of the challenging things in officiating especially if brawl in
players happen. It is hard to stop fighting since there are a lot of players that the officials
need to stop. Referees use a whistle to help them control matches. The whistle is
sometimes needed to stop or call for a technical foul and will fees to the commissioner. As
everyone stop, acknowledge the pressure, direct your mind to focus on the game and
assure yourself that you're in control in a relaxed, calm way. Fairly assess your performance
and commit to minimizing mistakes, but also be prepared to move on and develop a
tolerance for being less than perfect.
In order to solve this, take your time as the officiating official. Time is your best friend
on the field. When talking to a player about their attitude towards you, get into a neutral
space on the field. Don’t rush things, but take your time. Initially players can be frustrated,
but that should wear off after a while. Stop the watch, you can add the time on at the end.
