RIVERS:

IN THIS PRESENTATION THE TWO ASPECTS THAT IM GOING TO EXPLORE

ARE, HUMAN USES AND FLOODING.THE RESOURCES AND ACTIVITIES
THAT I USED FOR THIS PRESENTATION ARE, THE SCHOOL BOOK, HELP
FROM A FAMILY FRIEND THAT IS ALSO A GEOGRAPHY TUTOR AND
ONLINE RESCOURCES.

.SECTION 1: HUMAN USES

SECTION 2: FLOODING
SECTION 1: HUMAN USES:

1. HOW, DO WE USE RIVERS TODAY?

River tourism: Rivers attracts tourist

due to its beauty and the number of
adventure sports they support.
Boating, fishing, swimming, bird
watching and canoeing.
Fresh water fishing: it’s a very
important activity along many rivers
and lakes.

2.HOW DO OUR ACTIONS IMPACT ON RIVERLIFE?

Human activities that pollute water:

Industries across the world are contributors to water
pollution.
marine dumping: [dumping garbage into the water]
global warming [causing temperature to rise that can
kill animals in the water]
agriculture [the chemicals and pesticides that go into
crops that farmers grow soaks into the groundwater.
When it rains the chemicals mix with the rainwater.
Then flows into rivers, causing further water pollution]

3. Suggest ways we can look after river life and
save water:
plant a rain garden: these gardens soak up rain
water so pollutants are filtered in plants and
soils instead of going directly into waterways.

Use a rain barrel: Rain barrel collects the first

flush of water during a storm which is important
because the first rainfall includes the most
pollution. This water then goes into your garden
then filters the pollutants before they enter our
rivers.

SECTION 2: FLOODING:
1. How does a flood occur?
Floods occur when an overflow of water submerges land
that is usually dry. Floods are often caused by heavy
rainfall or extreme snowmelt.

1 type of flood:
Flash flood: is a quick flood caused by a heavy burst of rain
a lot of water falls quickly into cities and towns the drains
overflow and roads become flooded.

2. What are the natural factors and human factors that

contribute to risk of flooding?

3
natural factors: Less evaporation, Snow has melted, River
rises.
Humans also have an important role in increasing the
risk of flooding. Forests are being destroyed to make
space for making cities and towns. In large forests, the
rain gets caught by the branches and leaves which means
some of the water evaporates back into the atmosphere.
When trees are cut down, more rain will reach the ground
making it easier to cause flooding.

3.BANGLADESH FLOOD:
There have been many severe floods in our history. In the
last few years 50 floods occurred in Asia alone. One of the
most affected countries in the world is Bangladesh. In
June 2022,Bangladesh was hit by one of the worst floods
ever seen in the country. Over 7 million people were
affected and still in need of urgent help. This flood was
caused from very heavy rain in the Northern India and fast
rising water. The heavy rain caused the large rivers
running between India and Bangladesh to overflow their
banks that caused flooding. The flooding has caused
serious on health of the population with many suffering
from diarrhea, skin and
eye infections.
