INTERPRETATIVE DANCE COMPETITION MECHANICS

1. The competition is open to all students of Sandingan National High School S.Y. 2022-2023.
2. Each grade level must submit only one (1) entry.
3. There shall be a minimum of 8 and maximum of 15 performers. This number includes the other
personalities who shall be present on stage or in the dance area during the performance (e.g. props
men, etc.).
4. Each participating group is free to use foreign or Original Pilipino Music (OPM) of any genre such as
pop,
ballad, rock, dance, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, or any of the latest songs. This is to provide each entry with more
artistic freedom in conceptualizing its entry.
5. Narration is strictly not allowed. This competition is designed for each entry to tell a story revolving
around the theme through dancing.
6. No dangerous props / stunts allowed.
7. Hiring of trainers and choreographers not presently enrolled in SNHS is NOT ALLOWED. Automatic
disqualification will be the penalty to any participating group who will violate this provision.
8. The performance shall not exceed five (5) minutes but not less than three (3) minutes, this includes the
actual performance, entrance and exit of dancers, setting up of props (if any) and the like.
9. For the allotted time of 5 minutes, each participating group is free to delete, cut, insert, mix and jumble
the songs chosen.
10. Any time in excess of the allowed performance time shall be penalized by deducting point/s from all
the judges’ scores in this manner:
1-10 seconds – 1 percentage point
11-30 seconds – 2 percentage points
31-60 seconds – 3 percentage points
61-90 seconds – 4 percentage points
91-120 seconds -5 percentage points
121 seconds and up- 10 percentage points

11. CRITERIA FOR JUDGING


Concept and Interpretation -40%
Choreography and Execution -30%
Costume -15%
Stage presence -15 %
TOTAL 100%

12. Music and entry forms must be submitted not later than a day before the contest. Delay in submitting
the said requirements will result to deduction of 10 percentage points.
13. Sequence order shall be by draw lots to be done before the competition proper. Punctuality is strictly
observed.
14. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable.

DETAILS FOR THE CRITERIA OF JUDGING:


A.CONCEPT AND INTERPRETATION.- 40%
1. Variety of dance positions, dance movements, and /or combinations as appropriate to the specific
dance.
2. Difficulty of dance movements and/or combinations from one dance position or alignment to
another.
3. Relevance to the theme of the competition.
4. Uniqueness or originality of dance movements and/or combinations from one dance position or
Alignment to another, to include presentation of dance position.
5. Continuity of dance movements and/or combinations to either interpret dance theme and music, or
to demonstrate dance control. This refers to exceptional phrasing which includes spontaneous
adjust-
ments of dance pattern for irregularly phrased musical selections.

B. CHOREOGRAPHY AND EXECUTION. – 30%


1. Basic pattern, rhythm, timing, and initial phrasing between partners or co-performers and to the
selec-
ted music. For correctly phrased musical selections, phrasing maybe shifted to momentary variation,
but generally, should be maintained throughout the specific dance.
2. Proper performance of footwork, hand, head, arm, and body movements through dance variations;
to include balance and centering through executed movements.
3. Alignment, framework, and proper presentation of dance positions; to include smoothness of
follow-through from movement into position; to demonstrate properly initiated lead and follow
technique from position into movement.

C. COSTUME 15%
1. Costume suited for the concept and theme.
2. Costumes must be decent and not revealing.

D. STAGE PRESENCE 15%


1. Artistic interpretation and choreography projected through dance movement as it relates to the
selected music and specified dance category.
2. Attentiveness, enthusiasm, enjoyment of the dance, and general good membership as perceived
through appropriate presentation of lead and follow roles.
3. Flair and accent of dance movement, generating an atmosphere and instilling a mood appropriate
to the specific dance category.

SPEECH CHOIR COMPETITION GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS

1. The competition is open to all students of Sandingan National High School S.Y. 2022-2023.
2. Each grade level must submit only one (1) entry.
3. There shall be a minimum of 10 and maximum of 20 participants per group.
4. Costumes and props are allowed as long as it is decent and will not cause any harm to the participants.
5. The participating group is free to choose a contest piece to be presented.
6. Three (3) hard copies of the piece must be given to the committee in-charge a day before the
competition.

7. CRITERIA FOR JUDGING


Interpretation (manner in which the piece is internalized and presented) – 30%
Delivery (quality of voice, fluency, pronunciation, blending and harmony) – 30%
Stage presence (stage poise, eye contact and audience impact) - 20%
Costume and Sound Effects (attire is related to concept, sound production -10%
Mastery of Piece -10%
TOTAL -100%

QUIZ BEE GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS

1. The competition is open to all students of Sandingan National High School S.Y. 2022-2023.
2. Each grade level must submit only one (1) entry. There must be five (5) members per team.
3. The scope of academic quiz covers: Language and Literature.
4. There are four (4) rounds in this category namely: Easy, Average, Difficult and Clincher.
5. In easy round ten (10) questions will be asked, five (5) in Average round, five (5) for Difficult round and
in case of a tie, tie breaker questions will be given until the tie is broken in the Clincher Round.
6. Points are assigned for each question in every round:
 Easy Questions - one (1) point each
 Average Questions - three (3) points each
 Difficult Questions - five (5) points each
 Clincher Questions - seven (7) points each

7. Coaches of each participating team must submit/drop five (5) questions in each round, with answer,
(typed/encoded font size 14 Arial style, printed in a 1/8 size of long bond paper and rolled/folded).
Dropping of entry questions in the boxes for each round must be done before the competition starts.

8. Each team will answer the same questions. The quiz master will read the questions twice only.
Contestants will only answer after the quiz master says “GO”.
9. Each team is given the following time in order to answer the questions:
Easy Round - 10 seconds per question
Average Round - 15 seconds per question
Difficult Round -20 seconds per question
Clincher Round -15 seconds per question
The contestants will automatically stop writing and raise their white board slates after the bell rings.
White board slates, markers and erasers will be provided by the committee. Participants are also
advised to bring their own white board markers and erasers.

9. The judges reserve the right to judge an answer as wrong if it is deemed undecipherable and vague.
10. The decision of the board of judges is final and irrevocable.

NOTE: The contestants must wear their school uniforms.

SPELLING BEE GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS

1. The competition is open to all students of Sandingan National High School S.Y. 2022-2023.
2. Each grade level must submit only one (1) entry. There must be five (5) members per team.
3. There are four (4) rounds in this category namely: Easy, Average, Difficult and Clincher.
4. In easy round ten (10) words will be given to be spelled, five (5) in Average round, five (5) for
Difficult round and in case of a tie, tie breaker word will be given until the tie is broken in the

ORATION GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS

Oration- It is a public speech characterized by a studied or elevated style, diction or delivery. It


is delivered in a formal manner. The word “oration” comes from Latin word “oratio” for “ speech” and “orare”
for “to plead, speak or pray”. It is a speech that is usually elaborated and dignified.

1. The competition is open to all students of Sandingan National High School S.Y. 2022-2023.
2. Each grade level must submit only one (1) entry.
3. The contest piece must have a topic about pandemic. You can use a piece from the internet or from
any sources.
4. The clothes to be worn must be formal.
5. The contestant must submit 3 hard copies of the piece a day before the competition.
6. The verdict of the board of judges is final and cannot be changed.

7. CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

1. Substance or content of the piece -50%


 Relevance of topic to or focus on the theme, originality/creativity, rhetorical
organization and grammar.
2. Delivery - 40%
 Quality of voice, diction, fluency/mastery of the speech, enunciation and pronunciation.
3. Stage Presence- 10%
 Stage poise, gestures, outfit and appropriate use of the performance area.

EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEECH CONTEST GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS

Extemporaneous Speech is a public speaking competition that requires student speakers to deliver a
limited-preparation speech with special focus on substance, organization of ideas and information, and
confident delivery.

1. The competition is open to all students of Sandingan National High School S.Y. 2022-2023.
2. Each grade level must submit only one (1) entry.
3. The topic shall be given on the spot by the judges.
 The judges shall give topics prior to the start of the competition related to the theme.
4. The contestants shall be given five (5) minutes to prepare and five (5) minutes to deliver.
 The contestants are not allowed to have any gadget.
 A timer accessible to the contestant, judges and audience shall be provided.
 The contest master is accountable to the sanctification of the competition.
 There will be a 1-point deduction for every 20 second overtime from the respective
judges’ total score before determining the rank of the contestants.
5. The style of the delivery shall be conversational, oratorical or a combination of both.
 Dramatic style is considered disqualified.
6. The contestants must wear their school uniforms.
7. Use of sound effects and props is disallowed.
8. After the deliberation the verdict of the board of judges is final and cannot be changed.

9. CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

4. Presentation -40%
 The student speaker has a good volume of speech, proper pronunciation, enunciation,
nonverbal cues, and appears comfortable.
5. Content - 40%
 The speech is logical, has a clear thesis, and presented in a cohesive manner.
6. Audience Response- 20%
 The speech is delivered with effectiveness evident in the response of the audience.
