RELATED TO FASHION
COMMUNICATION?
We are influenced by social media, articles, advertisements,
movies, posters, and graphics, among other things, in how we view
our bodies. The field of fashion communication deals with the
dissemination of fashion and lifestyle information. This may come
in many different forms, including communication.

fashion communication plays a very evident role in

communicating with the audience about their body.
They set a bar regarding an ideal body and what is
beautiful and what is not . Fashion journalism play huge

How Telecommunication Influences Body Image?

There are three major factors that influences body image are:
• Cinema
• Applications/Software
• Media

CINEMA

The film business is perhaps the best example of this complicated

connection. Perhaps the most frequent and prevalent type of visual art that
emphasises the human form is film. When you develop a movie based on
what you observe in the real world, people are impacted by it and their
outlook on the world alters as a result. That is what art is, and the world of
fashion and body image is perhaps where its influence is most powerfully
felt. There is a reason why actors at award shows highlight the clothing
designer they are flaunting. It's difficult to tell if movies shape fashion more
than fashion shapes movies, but it is undeniable that cinema is a significant
medium through which fashion may be accessed by the general public.
APPLICATIONS/SOFTWARE Photoshop and filters

Users have the option to alter their looks anyway they like using filters,
which may often result in unrealistic changes. Filters and selfies can
therefore have an impact on the emergence of body dysmorphic
disorder. The physique of a model is being altered in Photoshop to make
it appear differently than it does in real life. An individual's self-esteem is
impacted by these false presumptions, which makes them anxious and
uneasy about their looks.

your ideal face.
MEDIA
Teens' warped body image is a result of a number of things, including social media.
Both men and women are sexualized and given unrealistic representations in traditional media.
The body image of children can also be influenced by parents, either favourably or adversely. Social media, on
the other hand, plays a key role in why many young people have distorted body images.

DISADVANTAGES
Social media can harm your self-image by repeatedly
showing you "idealised" body types.
While posting selfies may help body image, trying to edit out

EXAMPLES
With the campaign, the brand aimed at being size-inclusive and provide women with stylish outfits for
every body type, breaking the long-running stereotype that women with lean bodies only have access to
stylish clothes.
A single plus-size-focused magazine named Mode was stirring things up at a time when heroin chic and
slim-hip androgyny were in vogue, advancing the careers of plus-size models as well as plus-size firms and
designers. The magazine "MODE" According to Susan Georget, the renowned casting director who founded
the curve section at Wilhelmina in 1994, "It was the first time that anybody could open up that magazine,
see plus-size models, and appreciate it.

The Dove Campaign For Real Beauty: The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty is probably one of the most
widely talked about social media campaigns that has ever been created, so how great is it that it lives at the
intersection of body image and fashion? What I like the most about Dove's efforts is that they've been
going on for over 10 years and haven't just consisted of heart-warming commercials or social media posts
— they've been doing real, groundbreaking research about body image! They've used their reports to create
their campaigns on self-esteem and inner beauty, which have undoubtedly made an impact in our culture.
Their latest effort is #speakbeautiful, in which they encourage women to engage in positive self-talk about
their bodies.
The Perfect Body
Victoria's Secret came out with a controversial campaign for their lingerie, entitled The Perfect Body. The
problematic nature was down to the women featured in the advertisements, who were all thin — ultimately not
doing much as far as really encouraging women to love their bodies. In fact, thousands cried out asking the
company to issue an apology and cease their campaign, and thankfully, VS changed the title to "A Body For Every
Body."

But lingerie brands such as Curvy Kate Lingerie and Dear Kate decided to recreate the campaign using women of
all shapes and sizes, representing real body diversity and love. Yay for body positivity!

In February 2016, Project HEAL launched the #WhatMakesMeBeautiful

campaign to encourage women to celebrate personality traits, talents, and
other factors outside of appearance that make them beautiful. Project HEAL
is a non-profit organisation that raises funds to cover the cost of eating
disorder treatment for individuals who would otherwise be unable to afford
it.

CONCLUSION
As individuals we need to stop pressuring ourselves to
change the way we look to fit society's standards on
how we should appear. We need to appreciate ourselves
and our bodies in our own ways. Everyone was born to
be different, and that means not being perfect. In
conclusion, our body image will always be part of who
we are and it defines our unique beauty.
