Introduction
1. What is paragliding?
Paragliding is a recreational sport
using a paraglider. The pilot sits in a
harness which is connected to a fabric
wing, the pressure of air entering
vents in the front of the wing allow
the glider to fly for hours covering
hundreds of miles. A calming sport
which provides the same freedom as
hang gliding but that is easier to land
and a more lightweight ride.
History of
Paragliding
1960s - Domina Jalbert invented a special kind of
rectangular chute called a parafoil, how paragliding got
its name.
1961 - it was modified technically and soon the phase of
para commander started. In the same line, sail wing was
modified by David Barish which was used for recovering
NASA space capsules.
1980’s - Equipment started to modernise and this sport
got a new dimension.
1987 - World’s first paragliding championship
(unofficial) was organised at Switzerland.
1989 - Soon after that Federation of Aeronautic
International (FAI) sport gave official nod to paragliding
and organised first official world championship in
Kossen, Austria.
Paragliding Rules
Here are the most important paragliding rules you should know :
Never paraglide in commercial plane flight paths.
Always lay out your parachute correctly, making sure no lines are
tangled before you take off.
Reversing turns should be made into the wind.
Don't paraglide in developed areas where you may crash into
telephone poles, bulidings, etc.
Do not fly directly above or belo another paraglider.
Gliders should give way to the right when approaching head on.
