    EXERCISE 1.01

    1. How poverty affects education?


    A. Give example and Scenario
    B. Does Poverty and education links each other
    C. Does quality education is for the privilege and rich only?

    Through poverty, children tend to work in a young age to support


    their family and living. Rather than going to school reading
    books, they choose to support and help their family just to have
    food in their table. One scenario is that a child chooses to work
    at a young age because of poverty and because of that, they
    choose to work and earn money instead going to school.

    Definitely yes, from what I have noticed, lack of education can


    lead to poverty, and when a family experience poor life, their
    families tend to work at a young age rather than studying just to
    earn money. I do believe that poverty will always follow when
    people didn’t have the courage to pursue their education,
    education is one of the gateway for us to avoid poverty. If we
    have the power of knowledge and understanding then definitely, we
    can avoid poverty.

    Quality education is for everyone, it will always depend on the


    student if he/she is willing listen, learn and understand their
    teachers. Our department of education is doing their best to
    provide quality education for all regardless of your background
    status in life. When in education, we are all equal.

    2. How can you avoid Filipino time as one of our un acceptable part
    of our culture?
    a. In school
    b. In personal errands
    c. In work

    First of all, we can avoid the Filipino time by applying it in


    our school. Our school is our second home, we can be able to
    practice to be on time. As a student, being a responsible and
    eager person is important because if we are not responsible and
    eager enough to be on time then it’s pointless. Being a student,
    I must be able know my limits and boundaries as well.

    In personal errands, we must think and responsible enough to be


    on time, what we have learned in school must be applied in our
    daily life. And in every action that we do, it will always be
    equivalent to a reaction. In my own personal experience, when you
    have a personal errands, before the time frame, you must be
    ready. 30 min ready in order for us to be on time. like they
    said, the sooner the better.

    We can avoid Filipino time in work by being responsible employee


    and by embodying what it takes to be a good employee. Being on
    time is a must because in work you must know your boundaries.
    Being on time in work is a must and through that practice, we can
    apply it in our life. Just like our teachers, government
    employees and all. They must be on time in their work in order
    for them not to be punished or deducted. So being responsible
    employee is a must after all.

    3. Is debt of gratitude (utang na loob) hinders/affects the personal


    relationship of a person?
    a. In family
    b. Colleague and Classmate
    c. Friends

    I think yes, in family one of the beliefs of Filipino is to give


    back to their parents’ ones their child has a diploma. I think
    this belief affects our relationship to our parents in a way that
    even if you cannot give what they want, you need to and you have
    to. I mean in every action that they do for you, you need to give
    back in order for them not be disappointed. In my own personal
    experience, when I couldn’t give what my mom wants, she will be
    mad at me to the point she will tell what she sacrifices and do
    for me. and it will affect our personal relationship.

    I think in colleague and classmate, in dept of gratitude also


    affect the personal relationship. Based form my personal
    experience, like in family, you need to give back what your
    classmate and colleague does for you because if you couldn’t give
    back then some people will be disappointed at you and it can
    affect your personal relationship to them.

    I Think in friends yes, from my personal experience, some of our


    friends get jealous easily especially when you couldn’t give back
    what they want. Being in dept of gratitude is a norm for me.
    because in every action that they do for you, it will correspond
    In giving back for them however when we couldn’t give what they
    want, they will be mad and disappointed and it will affect our
    personal relationship for them

    ACTIVITY 1.01

    1. As a new generation of men and women in Philippine society how


    can you bring change in this un-acceptable attitudes/culture that
    we still practice up to this day.
    2. How politics and political conflicts in our country affects your
    personal life?

    1. As a modern generation of men in Philippines, I can bring change to


    different un-acceptable attitudes and culture by embodying what right
    and acceptable culture are. Filipino embody the attitude and culture
    of being late in time, Amor Propio, Hiya or Social Propriety, Utang na
    Loob or Debt of Gratitude and High Context Communicators and this are
    some of un-acceptable culture and attitude of our ancestors that bring
    up to this time. As modern men and women, we need to respond to the
    needs of time and adapt to the change time. Filipino men and women
    must be able to change this attitude by applying and starting within
    ourselves and responding and adapting to the new norms and culture of
    a Filipino. Applying it to ourselves help us to influence others to do
    the same. It’s like empowering yourself fist before you empower
    others. I must be able to apply it, empower myself by adapting and
    responding to the new beautiful which are the new attitude and culture
    of Filipino. Being on time, having the courage to say no and yes,
    having our own shoes and knowing that our life is on us, are one of
    the ways in order for us to change and adapt to the new beautiful. We
    need to apply it first within ourselves and try to influence others as
    well. Through this way we can change our un-acceptable attitudes and
    culture in to a new beautiful culture and attitude.

    2. You know our world is govern by politics and political conflict and
    it greatly affect the lives of the citizen in a positive and negative
    way. In a positive way, in a way that political conflicts and politics
    open our eyes on what is right and wrong, and in way that they can
    give us opportunity to live freely and have a peaceful life where we
    have the opportunity to travel to different places and work in other
    country to support the living. In a Negative way in a way that, they
    can divide us. At this upcoming election, there are so many political
    conflicts and people show their own opinions and views in social media
    and through that, people can view that in a positive or negative way
    resulting for conflicts, war and it can divide us rather than as a
    driving force for us to be united. Politics affect our everyday lives
    as governments implement policies that have social and economic
    impacts on us such as wages, taxes and health care. Politics also
    affect the way of living of people and not just that, it affects all
    aspect of living. Through politics, people bribe one another, people
    corrupt, people do what they want just for politics. politics are one
    of the reasons of killing, conflicts, war in our country.
